It’s happen to me when correct any misspellings or etc. sometimes it just doesn’t let you do what you wanted to do!!! Frustrating. Sorry you had some difficult responses! That’s why there are so many different art supplies out there. We are all different with different levels of where we are in our art journey hence different art supplies. And I think that was clear in your review. You pointed out all the great things too. ❤

Lindsey, I saw the referenced review. You were kind, fair, and transparent with your review. You have nothing to apologize for. The individuals who said outrageous things have shown more about themselves than about you. Dust off, and carry on. I am here for you. ❤

I have to agree with everyone here. While the referenced artist said she was cool with your review, the subsequent videos from them felt a little defensive to me touting their products. They are nice, however, everything you mentioned was spot on. Thank you for all you do! I trust your reviews and felt very similarly. Nothing bad whatsoever, but exactly as you articulated. Don’t let the crank pots get at you and don’t apologize for their behavior. Constructive reviews don’t mean anything bad. People still have a difficult time with that and if the product line creator does anything they should at least say something to their followers to behave themselves and that treatment of others is not part of their brand. If she has already, then kudos to them!

One of the ills of today's "reviews" is that everyone has to be a 10 out of 10. Only perfect is acceptable. Anything else is a slight of some kind. It's dishonest and fake. We can be proud of being 7, 8, 9 as we grow and love what we do.

What I don't understand is, ANYONE who knows you, you're honest with your reviews. When you send your product out for a review it is a gamble. I would want an honest review because it is an opportunity to see how others see a product. Of course, every company would love to get a glowing review, but you always say that it is your opinion and others may feel differently. You really have to watch your step when talking about other creators because their fan base can be brutal. Art supplies are subjectional to each individual person. I admire you Lindsay and I have nothing against the other creator. Thank you and God Bless

@thefrugalcrafter this should be the pinned comment period! Such wisdom! Everything said here is spot on! Offering the most honest and truthful perspective on this subject!
I believe both parties could have done better. I believe both parties allowed their passion for art and creativity to cloud their ability to see how this would play out based on what both parties do... One focuses on the pure joy of painting and exploring creativity with wild abandonment and creates private label supplies... and the other party knows companies and products like no one else and does strick, categorical product reviews, along with tutorials. As a marketing developer I would not have put these 2 together in order to review my product. Ever! There are many other creators that are a much better fit. Your styles and way of approaching art are so vastly different anyone that follows both of you closely could see this wouldn't go smoothly at best.. and at worst it could seriously hurt both parties. I'm praying for both parties to gain valuable insight and demonstrate to both RUclips and viewers how to conduct yourself and repair the damage with care, concern, grace and wisdom. And that both parties grow and learn from this experience. And are made the better for it. I'm praying that become friends and valuable assests to each other.
And on a professional side note... Your title is horrible and could spark almost dead embers. Just saying as a fan of both parties... and being a trained marketing director.

Honestly, I think the tone for some components of KR palette/marketing might have been pre-set. When the palette was first released, many people wanted pigment information and initially there was a lot of resistance to that. Because "Proprietary." Many artists then wrote it off, because especially for those selling their works, you need more information to know if your artwork will truly last. (ASTM rating of a pigment does not always equate to lightfastness of a paint.)
I think KR might have a much better time leaning *into* what the palette *is* - i.e. a fun palette intended to encourage fearless painting and a jolly good time - i n s t e a d of insisting the palette is something it's *not* - i.e. a go-to palette for pigment nerds and self-described fine artists.
    Nothing is so good that it's a Universally Good Fit for everyone. *N o t h i n g .*
You shouldn't have gotten any backlash. Your review was very fair and very kind. You and KR have different audiences AND THAT'S OKAY. But it's not okay for anyone else to take their frustrations out on you!!
(Also it was not cool for KR in livestream to accuse your audience of "borderline slander" and that more than likely fueled her audience to come here to "defend" her.)
Just my lukewarm takes on the matter!

BUT *she did say as a reply comment to someone else that "crafters are fine artists."*
No hate to any crafters...... but I would like to grab some popcorn and watch someone tell a self-described fine artist this.
But yaknow? You said it best. "Words have meaning." Yeah. They really do.
I can't help but recall Jane Davenport's describing her palettes as "made with artist grade pigments." Which was totally correct. The pigment codes were available to prove it.
Did you know Jane Davenport also had a palette *with Schmincke*? Because I didn't! Why? Because none of us could afford it so they didn't sell like hot cakes, like her palettes at Michael's did!!!
      W h a t A R e v o l u t i o n a r y T h o u g h t ... ... ... that a palette can be a wild success even if it doesn't carry a "professional paint" label.

@@GingahSnapsArt You're right. I was being gentle with my terminology. I agree with everything you've said as well. I was looking at her Amazon listing earlier today, and someone asked yesterday in the Q&A for info on pigments, lightfastness, ASTM, etc since the paint is listed as professional quality. Someone who bought the set said it was addressed in the launch video. I watched that video from two years ago, and KR said that it wasn't a pro set, and if lightfastness was a concern or if you were going to sell your art, don't use her palette. I thought it was interesting that she said it wasn't professional then, but is now.

Lindsay you are one of the few people that actually give a full and complete reviews. You just don't test out a product once and say yeah it's a great product. You test the products for a few days or even weeks and then give your opinion on it. I saw your review on Monday and thought that it was fair and honest. Didn't think anything more about it until I saw the other person response ( I subscribed to both of you like most people who watch your videos) and wow all I can say I was shocked on first all the mean and unhinged comments people were leaving for you. I was more shocked at Kristy's response I understand you want to defend your products but don't call your product professional grade when it clearly is not.. Then try to explain that you have a different opinion on what professional grade is because you don't think pigment and light fast ratings are important to you. That's not how any of that works. 99.999% of artists define artist grade paint as what pigments are being used, what is the light fast rating? Then to say "I wished that Lindsay would have reached out to me and I would have given her the information" The whole stream was like everyone is entitled to their own opinions but here are reasons why they're opinions are wrong. It was incredibly disappointing. Lindsay keep being you, keep on giving you honest opinions on the product you test and if the companies and or creators can't handle the criticism then maybe this will entice them to do better.❤

Typically, they will tell you what a nice person they are, on repeat, which always puts me on guard. This is something that Lindsey never, ever does. Lindsey's reviews are always fair. Very gracious handling of the elephant in the room, Lindsay. I surely hope it can behind everyone soon, but the mean people will always exist. Sometimes I feel very passionate about something and have to remind myself that there is enough negativity and I really don't need to add to it. Nuff said.
I sort of 'lost' my identity when I retired in 2022 and am working to reinvent myself, so I haven't quite worked out what that looks like but my hobbies are cardmaking and 'slinging paint' (watercolor), which is the best I can say about my attempts to paint 🤣But I keep trying!

Oh no! I hope your daughter is doing well. Manytime vegan baked good are also made gluten-free to increase the customer base but I think it is a shame because if you are removing the gluten you need the binding structure and protein of something like egg I'd think. I use high gluten bread flour because the structure in improved. I wouldn't know how to do gluten-free. That said I could use less bread in my life (but it's so yummy!)

If you're into baking bread I can see if I can find a link to the recipe I use? My daughter had to go fully gluten free a few years back (as in not a speck of gluten in the house) and it took me ages to find something that resembled bread, lol. The secret seems to be using millet flour as a main ingredient (and also a bunch of stuff to hold everything together in place of the gluten!). I do miss making real bread but it turns out I can't do gluten either, lol, so it must be my genes were the problem 😔. I have heard of people making gluten free sourdough although I haven't tried it yet.

Hi, Lindsay. I love that you are using your favorites this year. I would love to see more Neocolor II projects, too! :) What I do like about you is that you give your HONEST opinion. You are not doing anyone a service if you gloss over things and don't point out things that you feel are important to us. You save us ALL a lot of frustration (and MONEY!) by doing these reviews. RE: the Pyrex - that happened to me TWICE (Years ago). I sent you an article as to why it may have happened. Sometimes having a home-business takes so much time that we can't develop other hobbies or socialization. It is difficult to find a balance. Especially where I live (in a very rural area). I do love listening to mystery stories on audiobooks and that is my preferred form of watching TV. Although I try to do other things like drawing (personal - not for work) while "watching" if I am too tired. I also love needlework and beadwork. I embroider at night with the TV on and love intricate needlework. Much of it is my own designing. And I love to go for walks with my partner. We live in a beautiful area with the sea nearby as well as many wooded paths and lakes. And I do cook and enjoy that. So it is quite a full life. Thanks for reminding us of the possibilities. I haven't been as vocal here with you as much because it has been a hard couple of months. But I need to come back and interact more with my artist friends. Both the inspiration I receive from you and hopefully that which I can offer helps us all. Have a great week!

Some of the plate chips, etc., you could even read the makers' mark. But when I moved, I got rid of the box of treasures. Once at Sandy Cove (on Digby Neck) we found an old SCROLL SAW washed up on the beach! (WTH???) I will send you a pic of that. It was outragous and fascinating. We have the highest tides in the world here as you may know, and it caused lots of shipwrecks back in the day. So there is new treasure unearthed continually. :) Anyway - have a great weekend!

Lindsay, you are fantastic. One of the reason I started watching your videos several years was your direct, honest approach. I knew I could trust your reviews and what you were teaching. You encouraged checking out products and forming our own opinions. You taught us and encouraged us to check out the way others artists worked with the materials and techniques. Without your input I for one would have been lost when buying watercolor supplies. It was a new medium for me and one I avoided because it had a mind of its own, which was one of things I like about it but it intimided me. Thank for your openness and guidance. Now one of my down falls became... Lindsay said this paint, etc is great and look what she did with it so I had to buy it. 😅 I eventually realized it was ok not to have all the art supplies I saw. I heeded your words and learned to use what I had. By then I had lots of supplies. I have drawn a hard line for myself not to buy anymore till I use what I have. Now that doesn't mean I won't buy paints, etc but I now pull out what I to see if I have something comparable. If I don't use it all my daughter will inherit all of it. I spread the watercolor bug to her. Her art is amazing! Keep doing what you have been doing.. There always going to be negative people. Had to laugh at ..don't say or write anything you don't want on the front page..my words not your exact words. I had a beloved aunt that told us over and over.. don't put anything on paper you don't want on the front page of Shreveport Times Herald.. now it includes our words that can be heard on video and other photos or videos taken by random people. Almost everyone has a phone with a camera so we never know if we are captured on candid camera. There are many unkind and judgemental people in the world. Over look them. There are also many kind and caring people in the world and you draw many of to be creative. Hang in there, dear friend!

I watched Sat Chat and was still thinking about this after so I had to come back! I love your reviews because you state exactly what your opinion is. You are kind about it, but you want people to know what you think about it based on all of your years of experience. You state who you think the product is for and not for- and I think the nasty reviewers are forgetting that there is no one product that will work for everyone. You dive into the nuances and help people figure out how to spend their money wisely.
I know you haven’t sourced your own products, but you have put your name on collections, and you give us the pros and cons of everything as you see it. People seem to forget that everyone can have their own opinion based on their own experiences, and there’s nothing wrong with sharing that in a kind way. During the pandemic, I dug out my old Grumbacher academy paints from undergrad and started playing with watercolor again after many years. Then I found your videos. I've followed your channel since then. I look to your review along with a few others whose opinions I've grown to respect to help inform my decisions when I started buy professional level supplies. I've refined my own preferences within my budget range now, but reviews like yours have saved me a great deal of money and frustration in the beginning. They have also helped when picking presents for family in that student or hobby level grade art supplies.
There are so many options out there and supplies are expensive on my meager salary. Just what country you live in makes a difference in picking affordable supplies, then the pandemic madness... geesh. Thank you for all the wonderful, informative videos you continue to share with us.
I enjoy watching Kristy's channel too. Her joy for painting is refreshing. She also presents technique and practice exercises that are accessible to beginners in her own fun style, that are not the old-school formal style I had in undergrad. But for upgrading supplies, I'm not her target audience and that's ok. If I'm buying for family or a friend, I would be. It's complicated. 🙂 I also watch a lot from Margot Hallac (Pointebrush). I enjoy her classism and quirky humor (and sigh over the A Gallo paints I can't yet afford...). Different target audiences, even artists that specialize in other media like ink and flex nibs, acrylic paint, colored pencils, traditional drawing, mixed media, and miniatures. My subscription list is pretty long, but you're at the top. You are consistent, honest, fair, and open about any possible bias (for example if an item was given to you at no cost to review). You explain your reviews very well without the audience having to have a lot of in depth knowledge of how things are manufactured in order to understand. You help the flow of "happy crafting". Thank you!

Kristy made the most manipulative video I have seen on RUclips. She made all
If this personal, she said that you were editing your followers comments and deleting them. She also made it sound like you attacked her, which is laughable if you watch the video.
She made a professional situation sound like it was A personal attack and her followers went nuts to defend the pouting and almost crying Kristie.
It was just sad she felt the need to go that route instead of just being gracious.

It is because of comments like this from both communities, Lindsay’s and my own, that I chose to speak up. I will not take lightly to being accused of manipulation. Please do not cherry pick my words from my live, out of the order and context from its filming.

@@KristyRice Lindsay is a professional and everyone knows it. She gave you a more than kind review of your product and instead of being grateful and professional back, you chose to film a video of you being absolutely Unprofessional. You don’t need anyone’s comments to do any damage, you did it all yourself. You said that this was Personal, and that Lindsay edited her community’s comments. This is all false. You do this but she does not. My comments have been removed from your sites before. I was on your live when you rolled out your paints and you knew very, very little about your product. This is also very unprofessional and show me you are not interested in giving solid art supplies to your “friends” but rather want to make money as they are double the price for the same paints you can buy anywhere. As for your video, it was like watching a bad b movie. You were obviously trying to get your “Friends” to not listen to the truth and what Lindsay a true artist and professional has said but to rather come defend poor Kristie who is almost crying on her video. Seriously, this is absolutely so unprofessional.
I did not make you not know about your products when you rolled them out. I did not make cheap brushes that broke or fell apart within weeks of using them. I did not ask someone else to review my art supplies and then when it did not go so well BLAME THEM FOR NOT CONTACTING ME TO MAKE SURE THAT THE INFORMATION THAT I SENT HER WAS IN FACT WAS THE CORRECT INFORMATION! That was a joke. I also did not respond so childish and make this all personally when someone did not like everything about my products.
If you don’t want to be accused of making manipulative videos, then watch the video you just made and don’t make any like that again, either that or take some acting classes, because that was soo bad.
I had nothing to do with your actions which everyone including your “friends” have also noted, I just spoke up on my interactions with you and how shocked I was that you were launching with such little knowledge of your product.
You are the only one that has been digging this grave since the beginning. Making cheap products and calling them professional, and then justifying how you call them Professional. Creating your own rules doesn’t make things true Kristy.
You can get as angry as you want and blame as many of Lindsay’s followers as you would like. Truth is you showed your true colors and everyone has now seen them. Now you get to live with the consequences of your choices… cheap paper in your books, cheap brushes, cheap paints called professional and all way overpriced. As for cherry-picking, you should rewatch your video. You said those things yourself.
I am done responding to this silly high school situation. If you can’t act like an adult and own your shit, then don’t. Continue to blame others for your poor choices. I am done with you and this waste of time. You can give that a Boop!

I don't have any of the three sets you used for that portion, but if I did, it'd be helpful to self curate a similar set until I could save the money for the set being reviewed. No buys are HARD when the want monster is rearing its ugly head. Lol😂😂😂

Around the same time, I found the referenced RUclipsr as well, but I just gravitated towards your channel more and subscribed. Just after watching a couple of your vids anyone would say how no-nonsense, no-drama kind of a person you are, who are in this space just for the love of art. So keep staying true to yourself. My winter painting is about creating birthday cards for my family which is fun for me to give throughout the rest of the year. I also explore using multi mediums to create together in ways I haven’t before without buying more stuff this year. Lately I’ve started with a junk journal which is new for me-it’s freeing. One other thing I do each year - usually in the Fall- is paint a unique Xmas card for each of my grandchildren along a common theme (makes it easier to track from year to year) and then write in memories from that year specific to them. I include a couple of printed photos. I have done this for over 20 yrs so the older kids have a little log of their life in this way from G’ma.

Just wanted to share that I purchased a set of markers Lindsay reviewed. They are excellent! I took them to school for my 4th graders. The markers have been used and sadly a bit abused…and they’ve held up! They are the favorite art supply in my closet. I bought them because of the clear detailed review Lindsay gave. She didn’t review them with elementary kids in mind (assumption 😅) but I knew my money would be well spent. Thank you for helping people spend money wisely.

@MichisCrafts80 if you can afford it the painting set of 20 offers the best value. You can mix all the colors you need (I only used that set in my painting, video coming soon) and it come with some tools and sponges. Shop around at block, Jerry's and amaxin for the best price. If you ate going open stock choose colors you like for backgrounds as you can use them with other media.

Happy Saturday, Lindsay! I laughed at the title of today's video. I have been thinking of you this week. I hope you didn't lose too much sleep over all of this! Your review was fine, and I know you know that. You're a good, honest, and fair person, and I know I can always trust your reviews. If KR has been following you for any length of time and/or watched any of your reviews, she had to have known how the review was going to go. And she knows her followers and how they have been with previous reviews of her paints, so she knew exactly what was going to happen when she sent them over to watch your review.
I have some work to do on myself. I am an introvert, but pre-covid, I volunteered at an early years center I used to visit with my daughter when she was small. Covid kind of turned me into a hermit. I need to force myself to get out there and be social. I have tons of hobbies, though. For mental, I would say genealogy, and reading about pigments and native plants. For physical, gardening and walking. For artistic, I have too many artistic hobbies to count, so I am good for that. 😂
I love Sarah Burns, so I am looking forward to your podcast!
Thanks for the pep talk! 🥰

Great sat chat, as per usual. Yeah who thinks about oven mitts😂😂😂. My husband sure doesn’t and a number of my good dish towels have scorch marks! I agree about no places to get together for an activity. I work and I was invited to go to a watercolor meet up at a local club…they meet the first Monday of every month, and have lunch. I work every Monday and really don’t want lunch, unless we paint first. They paint after, or used too. I am a morning person and feel most creative then, some times I work on a current project in the evenings. It’s hard, that’s why I like RUclips and teachable, but it would be nice to meet like minded people. Maybe when I retire. Thanks again for an enjoyable sat chat!

IMHO it seems to me that maybe Kristy should have asked for a private critique. She knows Lindsay's honest and direct approach and should have been prepared to handle candid criticism of the paints. It seems to me the only part of the review that wasn't glowing was the paint quality.
Watching Kristy's response video she said a few things that could be interpreted as encouraging (or at least not discouraging) her followers and their agitation. A few things stuck with me after seeing it. For one, she said that Lindsay should have let her know that the pigment information wasn't on the packaging. I'm sorry but she's a professional and she should have made sure that the product being reviewed was all in place correctly. She also implied that the swatching was not done properly and said something like "come on people" like Lindsay didn't do her due diligence. And then there was a comment about her product is her and she is her product. That statement right there makes anything that Lindsay says a personal judgement about Kristy which it wasn't.
