😢 💔😔 As a white woman, mother of an Abenaki descendant.. this breaks my heart. My daughter's ancestors were robbed of their lands, forced to 'assimilate' and majority of her tribe were killed. Mitakuye Oyasin. Ahò I look upon this through different eyes.
According to the Treaty of Fort Laramie (1868), the land where Mt. Rushmore sits belongs to the Lakota, Dakota, and Arapaho Nation. However, the US Government went back on their word and took that plot of sacred land away from the Native American tribes. The case went to the Supreme Court, and "The treaty formed the basis of the 1980 Supreme Court case, United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians, in which the court ruled that tribal lands covered under the treaty had been taken illegally by the US government, and the tribe was owed compensation plus interest. As of 2018 this amounted to more than $1 billion. The Sioux refused the payment, having demanded instead the return of their land." (source: Wikipedia and US Supreme Court). So, those billions of dollars just sit in a bank account, but The Sioux aren't interested in the money. They want their plot of sacred land back. And of course, the US Government isn't interested in keeping their word or giving the land back to The Sioux, either.
@@bigkingspeakerdwestemperor5068 Because you won't honor your word and give us our land back, I guess we'll never know. But the fact that we lived here for thousands and thousands of years and seemed to be able to work things out is suggestive that a great deal of equity would be involved for all people involved.
Mount Rushmore is an eyesore! I was so ashamed to see what my country did by defacing (no pun intended) a mountain and then having so little regard toward native Americans sensibilities.

A sacred place that celebrates truly exemplary human beings, far-seeing and moral, instrumental in creating and developing a social system that safeguards citizens' rights against possible evils of organizational/governmental power. Unfortunately many people born in America seem unable to appreciate how lucky they are just by being born in this country where good gets a fighting chance against evil because good people had fought the right battle to ensure a good foundation for this country. Meanwhile in most of the rest of the world ordinary people have no citizen's rights, truly oppressed and exploited by the most greedy and aggressive hypocrites in different ideological costumes.
Hey look a portion of this episode was still worth watching! I remember when most of the show was a little like this. but since 2015 no more. It has to be politically infused and partisan business. Now it's mostly just another news show pushing "Orange Man Bad"-schtick we hear multiple times a day. It's a shame.

This deserves a voice over describing how the US raped the Six Grandfathers and turned them into four presidents. Shame on Sunday morning for using this imagery without telling its history. Been watching this show since age 15. I'm 56 years old now. 😮

If it were a NBA Mount Rushmore:
Wilt
Russell
Oscar &

Would be on it!
I have been to the Black Hills many times. I do not remember birds being that loud and constant. The level of bird noise is unrealistic.
Sounds like canned bird background.
Maybe you need to get out in nature more.
Disgrace of a monument. Not the presidents of course, but when you learn about the act of how and by whom it was created, it is disgusting.
