    One of the best reactions to the pilot episode of this show! I’m really impressed with how much you two are paying attention to dialogue and detail. It’s really important in this show. Keep it up ladies! You’re in for a crazy mind bending journey!

    Yes, Jonathan Nolan is indeed the brother of Christopher Nolan. He also wrote a lot of the stories and scripts for Christopher's movies, so that should give you some idea about how twisty this show will get. He created this show together with his wife Lisa Joy. He previously created a show called Person of Interest, which is very good as well.

    • @Cbricklyne
      @Cbricklyne 5 лет назад +3

      Half brother.
      Different mothers.
      Jonathan grew up in the US, while Christopher is British born and raised.

    You mention Jurassic Park, which was written by Michael Crichton who wrote and directed the 1973 Westworld film that this is of course based upon. Think you'll enjoy the rollercoaster ride this brilliant series serves up!

      @@kyuujinreacts Also in the original film, the bad guy was basically a robot that seemed like the man in the black. So the early on the show was playing a prank by making you think the man in the black was the bad robot.

    • @rngwrldngnr
      @rngwrldngnr 5 лет назад +2

      @@gJonii there was an extra level of weird in the original film, because the Man in Black was played by Yul Brynner, in what was clearly supposed to be a reference to his role in The Magnificent Seven, with the implication being that the robot was made by Park staff who were fans of the film.

      Point of fact, you probably shouldn't even read comments going forward unless you guys get moderators or something. Just like with GOT, there are people who will spoil things intentionally, and people who might spoil things Intentionally by mentioning favorite episodes or characters, give things away that they don't Think are spoiler-y but in fact end up ruining a "OMG" twist kinda moment. So Beware! :))

    Not only is it Christoper Nolan's brother, but this is the one who wrote the original short story that turned into the film Memento, which they did together. As for the similarities with Jurassic Park, the original screenplay for the 1970s film Westworld was written by the author of the novel Jurassic Park (and The Andromeda Strain, about a virus pandemic outbreak), Michael Crichton. Oh, and Jonathan Nolan is co-creator of this re-imagining from the original film with his partner, Lisa Joy, who was one of the main room writers for the lovely, quirky, creative series (S01 is a must-see), Pushing Daisies.

    The head madame of the saloon is played by Thandie Newton. I've been in love with her since she was in "Jefferson in Love," playing the slave Thomas Jefferson took with him to Paris when he was US Ambassador to France--where slavery was already banned, so she was essentially free there and served as his daughters' guardian when he was busy, since his wife had passed away--and ended up having children with her in Virginia. Then Thandie Newton was in the series "E.R." after George Clooney left.

    Thank you so much for your views. I feel like I’ve seen a large amount of reactors (*cough* pat from the normies *cough*) saying that it doesn’t matter what the humans do to the hosts because they are not real. But ignoring the fact that what makes us see the humanity in each other is our emotions and brains, not the material that makes up our anatomy. The whole point is to ask that moral question, and in my opinion it is fundamentally wrong to harm the hosts in the same way it’s wrong to harm humans.

    A great show to get started on, i think it might be one of my absolute favourites, maybe only behind GoT. Enjoy the ride and make sure to watch with subtitles, beacuse while it may not be immediately obvious, but the dialogue gives a LOT of context and hints to what's going on.
    And just to explain the thing with the guns, the guns are specially designed to have different velocities whether they are shooting at a host or a human, so when shooting humans it's not lethal, more akin to being shot with a paintball or a rubber ball.
    And yes, Jonathan Nolan is indeed THE Christopher Nolan's brother. He's contributed and co-wrote many of his works.

    May I ask if either of you have gotten the chance visit the US? One of my favorite things about this show is the gorgeous panning shots of the American Southwest where my mother lives.
    Also! My father just spent a week in Paris after retiring this last year; the people of France were very kind and accommodating, he said. I know he had always wanted to visit - and I hope to get to someday as well. I'd love so much to see the beach where my grandfather landed on D-Day in my lifetime, or visit the grounds in Paris where John Adam, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin walked during the first air balloon flight. (I've only been to the northern inland area of France thus far, and it was for work; I had no time to myself to explore.)
    This is the first video of yours I've seen and I'm absolutely subscribing now. I hope you enjoy Westworld!

    AI = Something running in a supercomputer = Something running with normal computers that has enough memory, the AI is just experiencing time slower = something running on multiple computers over network = one of the multiple computers just showing the coming input on screen, human doing all the calculations on paper and writing the output to computer, which would slow down the process dramatically, AI would experience time much slower = all computers are just showing the input, humans do the output = remove the network and send letters instead of IP packets over network, again slows down the time, but AI would still work the same.
    Thus, artificial intelligence cannot become conscious by having lots of computing power. Consciousness is not just state of information in the memory of computer, otherwise we could have that state on books in a library. We can't use physics to describe the important part of consciousness, awareness.

    I'm not sure if it's better to have seen the 1973 cinema film (as I have) or not.
    The film & the "state of the Art" tv series, are going to appeal to 2 VERY different audiences, I prefere the original film which only cost just over a million dollars, less than one episode of this television series would cost.
    There are some good perhaps clever ideas here- industrial espionage, the old way of doing things v the new, etc BUT I never really cared...enough about the characters (be they human or machine) the programme is often nasty, unecessarily violent, I felt it needed much more of that black comedy aspect seen in the original film, and in something like ROBOCOP
