In the Indian classical tradition, I just learned that there are two concepts of musical sound. One pertains to "struck" sound which is audible and the studied sound we all understand in the West to be "music." The other pertains to "unstruck" sound, which is sensed through our hearts/spirits rather than through any physical faculty. Music is, by this tradition, a vehicle or medium, through which, with practice in playing or in listening, one may sense and connect with this mystical unheard sound. I believe it must be the "sound" or vibration of the eternal side of our own beings which is within us and around us at all times. All that to say that the meditation your beautiful playing invokes, must surely be a vehicle honored by this unusual theory of unstruck sound, holding within it the subtle power to amplify this elusive and sacred sound, the sound of one's own spirit. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. I think the Celtic element here must deepen that connection to the "unstruck." It has always stirred something in me.

@@nadiabirkenstock_harpsong Oh, the pleasure is all mine! I'm just beginning to write celtic music for viola, the viola being my retirement project. As a composer myself, the first thing my ear gravitates to is space and organisation. A lot of Celtic and related music is pretty cluttered these days, meaning the players either aren't listening to one another or don't know how. Loreena McKennitt really does it for me because she knows how to "live inside the sound", as the old saying used to go. Her Tango to Evora caught my ear decades ago when the extended version was used as the theme to The Burning Times. Her phrasing is as natural as breathing. You have a style all your own- very unique. The technical term is that you artfully use the transfer of idioms in how you conceive sound and music. Yes, there is a name for it. 😁

Thank you so much for your kind words. ❤
How these tunes match to that running water! As if they were twins, harp and water. This composition is so very full of passion - I bet if there were any mermaids sleeping in the bottom of that river (or lake...), they were awakened by those sounds. Kindred spirits rejoice in the company of each other...
I wrote the first sketches of this piece while being on a boat.. it was a great inspiration!
@@nadiabirkenstock_harpsong Water has such effect upon us: Mind, body and soul benefit from it. One senses how inspired you were when you wrote it and in the way you play it. Thank you for sharing!

Truly a pleasure to listen to. Better than Mrs.Coltrane to my ears. Pleasing sounds instead of soulless maths ...

I love this song, I hope I can play this song ..
Thank you! 🌷🌺🌸
What a lovely piece ...beautifully played thanks.
Thank you very much!
Its all in the love of the instrument, long hours of practice even sometimes all day and nights for a long long time. If you love the harp and are very enchanted by it, you will learn. Its an endless adventure.....Sometimes i go away from it and come back as fresh as in the start about my love for it. If you get one, buy a fairly quality made one so in your practice you can enjoy its beauty as you learn.
When I was 8 years old, everyone thought I was going to play the flute like my sister (I thought so too), but when the moment came to decide what instrument I want to play, I said I want to play the harp, and everyone was surprised because they didn't expect it. But since they didn't have it in my music school, I decided to go for a piano. But to this day, I still want to play the harp. I know that moment will come, it's just a matter of time. You're an inspiration, you play so beautifully! ✨
Thank you so much for your beautiful commen and for sharing your story.
I can just say, go for it! The harp is just a great instrument to start (and at any age) and there are so many ressources online now.

I, too, had piano lessons when I was 5, it is such a great basis for learning the harp later on. Enjoy your harp path and take care, Nadia

Never had an interest in listening to harp music. I always thought it is a weird instrument that no one likes.
Today, out of nowhere, I decided to look it up and I found this video.
This is by far the most relaxing, most peace-inducing music I have ever had the pleasure and honor of listening to. No too dramatic, but no dry either.
Perfect. Thank you so much for uploading!
Dear Tradermann, well, I am so glad. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment, I really appreciate it.

This is a melody from heaven! This sounds like something one would get on a bright afternoon on the aisle of Iona... every note an inspiration, that tell a story from the very deepest part of a peaceful soul in prayer... perfection, dear soul!
Thank you so much Daniel!
@@nadiabirkenstock_harpsong Well, you can call me Danny Boy, dear soul, anytime [I knew all the words to that one when I was but two, as my Da sang it to me on his lap], that's where this tune takes me! Forgive me please, for speaking so emphatically, as I feel things deeply. You obviously do as well, as it shows in your music! May the good Lord bless ya, and keep inspiring you music.
Douceur, grâce, beauté, céleste..!
Merci beaucoup 😍
I love your well-defined sense of rhythm. It drives the music forward in clear and unambiguous fashion.
Thank you for listening so closely ! 😘🎵
Wirklich schöne Musik! Dankeschön!
Have you heard " The Flower of Magheraly" on harp and voice? Recommend if you haven't.
I feel as if you deserve a Grammy for this song it’s so calming and it has a melody most harp players I just hear a sound I can actually feel something in this song
