You want your back foot (the one popping) to basically be on the balls of its toes, and at the very back of the board. Then, focus on jumping up, then doing a little flick straight down (not too backwards) with your ankle of your back foot, to push the tail down. Make sure to never let your back foot touch the floor, keep it high above the ground to allow space for the board to move up into. The flick will naturally happen if you jump before you pop but you can sort of tweak your ankle a bit. If you want to see an example watch a slow motion version of an ollie and see how their back foot never touches the ground and how they’re already lifting up in their jump before even popping.
    Hope this helps.

It’s like how you would lightly smack someone playfully on top of the head. All the force is quick and light at the tip.

That's a really helpful way to think of it

Keep it up. Just imagine you’re trying to complete a karate kick action. A good pop will slightly wrap the board around your front foot. Once you get the feel of grip tape rolling up the side of your shoe “stab” forward and bring the back knee to your chest. This is important for later flip tricks so you can “catch” with the back foot and not front foot like a amateur.
Also move your front foot to the dead center of the board. Some people call it a “poser” Ollie, but it’s the perfect point to start at and the slowly being the foot forward. A good mastered Ollie can be done from the front foot well. But it take times and strength to get there.

I’m a beginner too and havnt learned how to Ollie just yet but I heard if you kick your back foot out after planting the tail on the ground it could make you Ollie higher. I saw it on tiktok from thelocaljoe

Yes, timing is important, but another thing that is also important, commitment! Commit to jump off the board. At first it can be scary since anything can happen -- you suddenly roll your ankle, you jump forward hence hitting your shin with the board, etc. But once you get the hang of it, it gives you a big smile.
Btw, i see your ollie in day 6 was improving; the back tail was off the ground for a few centi. Nice, keep it up! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥🔥

You had great improvement, by day 6 they were starting to lift off the ground pretty easy. It's all timing and muscle memory and youre gonna have a good ollie in no time

A good tip for Ollie’s would be focusing on the pop

Skateboarding is the most rewarding thing in the world, but it will break you off. Don’t just jump up, jump sideways a little bit, it’ll make the feet motion easier.
