I managed quite a few of the ollies pushing down on the nose though 🛹 Did not get around to trying the shuvit tip, but I told it to a girl at the session and she managed to land her first shuvit that night! Another little trick that helped me was making sure that my back foot is just as high as my front flip when I jump. Full disclosure I can’t Ollie yet without holding on to support but what clicked for me was understanding the pop. I’m old and returning to skating and I remember using finger boards (back when they were sold as key chains and you took the ring off). I could Ollie those by pulling back slightly as I popped with my fingers rather than just lifting up or pushing my hand forward in the direction of travel. So I started visualizing pushing down and popping with a motion that pushed the board backwards. That, in combination with practicing the front foot slide to raise,level, and guide the deck, seemed to unlock it for me. I can now pop a nice looking Ollie...on the carpet in my basement holding on to the side of the couch lol. But I’m gonna call that progress for 40 years old.

    2:38 It's Newton's third law of motion, the principle of action-reaction : For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It's how rockets work btw. Grasping physics that is involved in skateboarding really helped me making tricks more intuitive

    Great video George!!! Just wanna add for me, personally I've been skating for about a year now and what helped me with getting that 'click' with the ollie was my posture on the board. Ive always thought I had the pop down and the whole dragging your front foot but could never actually get the board leveled. Once I started adjusting my posture to be directly over the board (possibly even leaning slightly over) it instantly clicked and the rhythm has stuck ever since :D. Just thought I'd leave this here for anyone struggling as well!

    Hey George I' m 32 and have been skateboarding on and off for many many years. I don't even remember my first kickflip cuz it's been almost 20 years ago but I never landed a switch one and I just became a father so I decided I'm gonna land one asap. I've been training my switch kickflip for a while now and can land with 1 foot only. I'm gonna give your tip a go and hopefully I will get the sw flip after many years of skateboarding! Cheers

    Just like you explained at the kickflip section, I found it hard to land on the board with both feet in shove-it. It took my months of practise, stopping practising shove-its and getting back at them, but now I have learnt it :) Fakie is easier for me as well, and I have to improve the form, but I am extremely happy about shove-its! I will apply your tip in the 'forward' shove-it, thanks a lot George! :)

    When I try to kickflip I can do it with putting one foot at the ground but when I try to land of with two feet I can't rotate the board properly, why is this?

    • @LLL-zx6dw
      @LLL-zx6dw 4 года назад

      Fuckkkk same fucking same except the last part I can rotate 100% it’s the landing on both feet, but it’s cuz I’m not committing and scared since I sprained my back foot twice doing a kickflip......

    I think it helps me when I look at a certain spot on my board for tricks. So if I keep missing with both feet then I'll look the opposite direction of where I miss and it helps my brain tell my body to jump the right direction instead.

    • @Mcfishsandwhichandfries
      @Mcfishsandwhichandfries 4 года назад +1

      Same here ...if I look in front of my board t the ground I land things way better

  • @viktorromer3561
    @viktorromer3561 4 года назад +1

    What also helps for me is trying these tricks on a trampoline because you're not afraid to fall and you commit completely
    Anyway that's how I learned how to commit and land kickflip.

  • @antoniosharvey8386

    For shovets what’s helped me a lot is jumping high so u have more time to watch the board coming up behind ur feet then once u land it a few times it will become easy, this is just what worked for me so I hope I can help one of u 👍

    that kickflip tip is useful. i’m 24 and just starting to get sort of consistent at them. my tip would be to jump straight up, and “break your front ankle”. as in really focus on using your shin to drag your limp foot across the board. for me, if i try to flick using every part of my foot, my board goes way out in front of me or gets pulled up too high.

    Yo that kickflip tip is unreal. You actually got me to land my first kickflip. I now use that tip to land much harder tricks too. Everytime i cant commit to a trick i just imagine it landing upside down, but do the same thing. Thats how i learned heelflips, kickflips, varial flips, and even fakie 3 shuvs though the board doesnt flip. Thanks bro
