Can AI Make a Star Wars Film? (100% AI Experiment)

  • We recently gave a talk in Hollywood about the future of storytelling and were asked to put together a quick tech demo. The result was this very short film sequence that we put together in just a few hours.
    Notable points:
    - All Imagery, Movement, and Voices were generated by AI.
    - AI invented an alien language in about 10 seconds. We would feed it lines, and it would output the language with verb conjugations, tense, etc.
    - There's no reason why you couldn't use the same tech to create a long-form content piece.
    - Lip syncing still needs to be improved, but with recent innovations, we're only a few months away from public-facing lip sync tools that feel natural and can overlay on existing video. We used Wav2Lip, but other tools like lalamu are also very helpful.
    - The music and sound effects were from a stock library, but that was simply a time constraint. We could have easily used new tools like Stable Audio to create the sound. Sound effects need to be from a library at this point, we haven't found any good AI sound effects tools.
    - Audio generations in Elevenlabs took about 2 iterations each.
    - Midjourney iterations took about 20 renders per shot to get the right scene (with repeaters to save time).
    - Pika renders took about 5 renders per shot. The camera controls made movement a lot easier to control. Adding more motion than the default value seemed to work pretty well.
    - We upresed using Topaz Video: topazlabs.com/ref/2155/
Let us know if you'd like a more detailed video breakdown. While we do go into detail about all of these processes in our course, we'd love to share the steps with you here.

    - All Imagery, Movement, and Voices were generated by AI.
    - It took one person about 8 hours to create it.

    - Pika renders took about 5 renders per shot. The camera controls made movement a lot easier to control. Adding more motion than the default value seemed to work pretty well. We also made a tutorial about that process on our channel.

Fun fact, and something I didn’t think about/notice till just now. The fight between Shin and Sabine in the first episode of Ahsoka was the first live action lightsaber fight between 2 women. Also, I never felt there was anything romantically going on between Ezra and Sabine, besides Ezra flirting with her when he first met her. That’s why I’m in the Sabine and Shin shipping camp, which would also be the first gay/lesbian couple on screen in star wars, and makes sense for those 2 characters, cause they’re both not very “girly”, and if Thrawn ends up killing Baylan for actually not killing Ahsoka off, Shin could very likely join Sabine and Ezra to get revenge on Thrawn, and/or continue Baylan’s cause in some way, depending on what that ends up being. And Sabine and Shin both have that rebelish, stubborn, and dark tendency nature, the latter Shin more than Sabine of course, so I think they could compliment each other well, learning a lot together and from each other. I don’t know if Dave would go there, but I’d love to see it, not for the sake of representation at all, which I don’t care about, but because it could actually make sense for the characters and the story.

Because creativity doesn’t depend upon the final product for its value. A chair can be carved beautifully and painstakingly by hand or easily by a machine, but one has immensely more effort and soul put into it and the other is simply checking boxes before it’s on the way to its shipping container. Art imitates life. Artists draw from life, but don’t just take a picture. Why is this? Because the joy of creation is what gives life meaning and purpose. The ends don’t justify the means, and a product is only worth the love and skill it took to make. AI, like a camera or a printing press is a tool, not a replacement. To live is to love and to feel alive is to experience the world and the beauty in it. Enjoy things. Enjoy your journey. Don’t simply skip to the end before you’ve learned to live.

The fact it requires human art as a baseline proves they're unable to produce anything of its own inspiration. I have seen nothing that has convinced me humanity is capable of producing an Artificial Intelligence from science fiction. If they do, I will be a proponent for them to gain rights. But this current generation of AI has no chance of sentientcy. Until then, I will be a proponent for all AI research to be ceased. The inherent risk towards humanity is not worth it. We're already becoming too lazy with being able to order a meal on our phone. How lazy will we become taking advantage of AI?
