This is the crossover I needed. For years, my sibling (Tomska fan) and I (Tom Scott fan) have been telling each other, “Oh, there’s a new X video out,” to momentary excitement, then slight disappointment.

TomSka's Rock Paper Scissors trick was so absolutely flawlessly executed. The moment he did that I thought he might've been going for the dupe but he acted it so perfectly. Egad.

Come on, it’s Tom Scott and TomSka. One is impervious to scandal because he slanders himself, and the other is so meticulous at scrubbing his personal life out of the picture that you don’t know anything more than what he’s told.

Tom seemed like Tom's chaos was growing on him. By the end there, Tom and Tom were matching each other's energy.

Well the logical strategy isn't foolproof. And he does say that he didn't know a strategy for ship placement.
Which he demonstrated promptly as it is why he knew when he had lost.
Grouping can confuse your opponent if sunk ships aren't called. In this game there are no upsides to grouping though

I would have gone for a uniformly distributed version of the Tom (Scott)'s battleship strategy instead of scanning top-down, since I feel it is likely for humans to make use of the full board space, so this might converge faster?
I think one of the better strategies does something similar, but with a proper probability density heatmap instead. Not sure if it is *optimal* against the average, untrained human's strategy, since it's possible implementing some system to attempt to guess groupings may or may not offer an advantage as well.

I've been thinking about it for a while, but this cements it. This second channel might be the best move Tom has ever made. The content here can be longform and interesting in so many different ways. I literally just watched two grown men play several childhood games for almost half an hour, and I was captivated the whole time. When it ended I poked my mouse thinking "Can't have been 27 minutes already", but it had.

It's very interesting how the rules of battleship vary from what I'm used to. In particular (since it's a pen-and-paper game, traditional Russian rules):
-In the setup, Tom Scott grouped two ships together. This is forbidden here, regardless if the border is orthogonal or diagonal.
-When Tom hit a Tom's ship, the turn changed to the other Tom. In here, the player hitting the ship is allowed to make another turn immediately afterwards.
-The exact composition of ships: the regular setup here is 1 4-tiled ship, 2 3-tiled, 3 2-tiled, and 4 1-tiled.

The dynamic between the Toms is so wholesome and bizarre; how two RUclips stalwarts from vastly different fields of experience and expertise, and similarly disparate personalities can gel together so seamlessly is just… so great! It feels like the two hemispheres of the brain finally going on a long-overdue playdate, and discovering that they really enjoy each other’s company. Scott: the reserved, calculated, logical side. Ska: the witty, impulsive, emphatic counter.

I've seriously never felt so tense watching a game of rock, paper, scissors before.
It's the most universally tension-inducing game, yet this was the most tense I've ever felt from it.
I have watched this video many times and just realized why i like it so much. Its the two main parts of my personality fighting each other and i can watch :)

You both played a perfect game of Connect4!!! The opening was a sideline in the Norwegian(DCDB, better:DCDD DCCD) but after the B move Tom Scott got a +5 advantage and never lost it during the game. On the other hand TomSka found always one of the best moves. So letting Tom Scotts advantage never be more than +5. Apart from TomSka's G4 move which only shortened the game unsignificantly. Therefore a perfect game of Connect4.
