A friend of mine did a game about depression in Uni, it was called Spiral. It was a co op game, you stood on blobs that went around in a spiral and at points you could get cards that could help you or someone else keep away from the end of the spiral. If you unfortunately got to the end, there was a drawer with a gun in it (a toy gun, we're not crazy) and a card that essentially says that you have reached the deepest, darkest point of your depression and have decided to end it. Turns out, a lot of people find it hard to shoot themselves in the head, even with a fake gun.

That depression game is great. It would be nice if we can add another square in the board something like "surprised factor", where when you step in it, you take a card from the "surprised factor" stack. A surprised factor maybe be something like "Getting a pay rise - move to the nearest happy square" or " It's rainy but you didn't bring an umbrella - move to the nearest sad square". That makes the game harder to predict and to light up the mood, you know, the surprised factor can be any random daily things happens in life, or some Tomska's things " Baby with a gun- move to the nearest sad square" :)))

I have no idea what Spoon Theory is

    • @runic_raptor
      @runic_raptor 3 года назад +101

@@RainyDelaneyy It's a way of explaining mental illness to someone who doesn't experience it.
The idea is that everyone starts off with a number of spoons, and throughout the day, doing activities cost you spoons. And if you don't have enough spoons, then you don't have the mental strength to do those activities.
For most people, simple tasks like taking a shower, making and eating breakfast, or even just getting out of bed don't coat that many spoons - if any. It's just something they do without thinking about it.
But living with mental illness can mean you don't have as many spoons, or doing simple activities can cost way more spoons than usual. So you have to think about what you absolutely need to spend your energy on rather than just going about your day doing everything.
If your mental health is particularly bad one day, you might have fewer spoons than usual, and have to prioritize the things that NEED to get done without question (Feeding pets, going to work, etc.) over the things that you really should do but would making doing those other things harder (making breakfast, taking a shower, etc.)
It's just a simplified metaphor to represent the toll mental illness can take on people.

Maybe the ending of "Depression(TM)" can be more liiike, the first person to win becomes a "Therapist" role, so they can now add their own dice-roll to other players' roles. The dice roll doesn't have to be taken if it would lead the player to a bad spot, and sadness and happiness roles are effectively a zero from the therapist(s) for ease of gameplay-then each player goes until they actually make it through the day.
I feel like that would be a much better, more logical, and more wholesome message/finale for people who ACTUALLY are struggling with depression and playing the Depression boardgame than just "Welp, someone made it through the day first (somehow), so nobody else gets to make it through the day; they lost."

This series is a pretty good way to summarize Tom, Eddie, and Elliot's Psyche.
Tom works hard for his projects,
Eddie just wants to have fun with himself and his family, and
    Elliot is Elliot.
I have no idea what I'm saying I'm just spewing words. 🧙‍♂️

I think Elliot spins a wheel and does whatever it lands on. Overkill problem solving, wholesome content, and chaos. In the case of the Banana-nana Man, it landed on the edge of chaos and wholesome.
He made multiple songs to see which one worked best. That's overkill
But he also did Minecraft livestreaming for charity. That's wholesome
BUT THEN he attached a buzzsaw to a power drill that was duct taped to an RC car. That's 100% chaos

@@shinymainespoon didn't he also attach the "eggplant" to the buzz saw too?

@@Vessick This is true, which also adds to the chaos

The captions during Elliot explaining were hilarious, I also appreciate Elliot’s service in simplifying that horrifically hard game

Okay but Tom's game has some highkey wholesome things in it though and I have no doubt that it'd make a great seller if it was made an official game.
I absolutely love it and will probably play it someday in the future.

Hearing Elliot so close to the microphone made me ponder the possibility of an ASMR challenge in the future.
*_I am both terrified and intrigued by the possibilities._*

I would love to buy depression the boardgame if it was made legit. Such a good way to connect and talk about things we hold inside.

When I found out I had the Depression+adhd combo at the age of 16, my mind was blown on two fronts. On one hand, everything made so much sense. On the other hand, I was the only person who wasn’t aware of it. Everyone knew. My friends, my teachers, even the guy I bought pizza from figured it out from passively observing me eat at the pizza place. Seriously, wtf?!

14:10 When I first watched your videos, I’m gonna be honest, I had no idea who Bo Burnham was. I recently watched INSIDE, and have gone through, and am still going through, quite a Bo Burnham phase, and one of my favorite things, is coming back to videos like these, and being surprised when there’s a reference to Bo
