- How to build a team and grow your production company.
David Lara asked 'How do you go about building a team?'
It's always very difficult to find and source people who best suit your team so that you can continue to grow the company. In this Video I explain how I started my Production Company and found the right people to work with.

Vivida is owned by @SimeonQuarrie. The team are visual innovators, thinkers in the field of video & photo storytelling.
I’m only 14 and I already want to start my own 2D animation company because:
1) I want to see more eye catching 2D animation films (like anime or Into the Spiderverse)
2) it’s very difficult to get a animation job or ANY job in Japan as a foreigner.
3)even if you did get the animation job in Japan (if you’re a foreigner or a “native” Japanese), you would get low pay for such hard work.
4) there aren’t a lot of 2D animation studios in America, basically only 3D/CGI animation.
5) I love drawing and animating and I guess I’m pretty good at drawing(?).
6) I enjoy story writing and I have many ideas to make into a film.
I am very overwhelmed though. Haha.
rsji.2u ji I love you passion and determination. The challenge is overwhelming in when you are old like me :) You are clearly thinking with a good business head. Well done. I can tell you are going to be successful
Simeon Quarrie thank you so much!
Let me know if you have any specific questions, thoughts or worries
NegroDeSangue yeah, I plan to learn about 3D once I have proper equipments. Basically, I plan to be flexible as much as I can with art styles and etc.,. That way, i have a higher chance of being hired and will have more experience and knowledge. This could also get me into Laika which focuses on stop motion films.
Join me!!!
This was just what I needed to hear...I've gotta get out of solo mode and get a team to truly grow my businesses. Thanks for the great tips!
Mister Levius We can do it!
You hiring? 😎
Me too I'm still stuck in I wanna do it all mode lol
I like the 3 H . Humble hungry and honest
Thankyou for this.
Interestingly, iv been pondering this very exact issue for the past three months as i intend on switching careers from Civil Engineering to film making - my passion and calling!
I made a few productions in the past for competitions and i recall once hiring video editors to assist as i found it a challenge juggling my career and passion. Our interactions were swift and seamless because i knew what i wanted and they were very skilled.
The only issue i had though was that my ego got in the way as i didnt feel this was ''all me''. This video sparked something in me as iv just realised that no man is an island and team effort always wins. It puts into perspective the old adage, ''If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together''
Thanks
This is one of the best videos I've seen on growing and building. I think it's important to share how things begin and grow especially with the specifics that you offered. So much insight Thank you!! 😌
Great video we're 5 years in and just shared our story of how we grew as a production company :)
Yes, been a one man band for years. Things are really moving along for my garden show,,so need to set up a team now. Thanks so much for your help..and guidance.

What an absolutely fantastic, well informed video! You have answered the big questions and fears most of us have in the production world. I have my own production company that is in its 10th year and I still have these kind of questions day to day as i'm sure you know its a never ending learning curve. Your presentation and obvious teaching skills regarding this crazy industry is second to none and you should really think about writing a book one day. You have my subscription and I look forward to binge-watching all your videos. Thank you Simeon!
Digital Emotion I really really appreciate your comment. Seriously. Especially as you are someone who has experience. I'm humbled
Thanks for sharing - I’m about to produce another series and your info is helpful
It's amazing how one random search can lead to this. This for sharing your story, it's starting to get tough on this end doing solo, so it's time for me to really make this work for my future. Thanks for all the advice.
This is the best video I've come across! I've been struggling to deliver projects because it's because it's too much for me alone! Now I know what to do, thank you!
you don't understand how much i love and needed this video
This actually helped me boost my confidence in managing my video production that I'm starting now. I've been having problems with looking for clients especially if you have so many competitors in the market. I even made my own video showreel in my own channel :)
Ian J so pleased! Sorry I’ve not made a new video yet :)
Great video! I really appreciate how you broke down what a company needs in every interim level
Absolutely love the content, and especially your way of thinking and talking. Glad I watched this video.
Your video has inspired me to finally get off my duff and do what I should have done years ago. Thank You!
sooo generous of you to share sir.....thank youuu and great work
OOOOOHHHH Man ....thank you soo much, this is exacly what i needed. Im at that stage where my work is bigger than myself and clients are coming in thousands, i cant handle by myself. thanks to you
Congratulations! Don’t grow too quickly. Managing people is a whole new skill.
I'm in the same spot you were in, gave me a better perspective now thank you!

Really informative, thank you for sharing really helpful... I'm in a process of building my own media production company and I just started so this is truly amazing.
Wow! This is literally where I find myself. I started sharing all my ideas to my “team” only to have them rub their hands and use them for themselves. I’m trying to set up my production team here now in la with a stylist and videographer. Imma photographer.
Thank you for the great tips, I am currently working on building my production company
Good luck my friend! A new video for you coming in an hour or so. It will help you for sure!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge Simeon! Im getting ready to start a VR based video production company here in the states and your videos are very helpful. Looking forward to seeing more.
Lawrence Hikalea hey us to!! We have just won 4 VR projects

I've been working out of my bedroom since 2014 and Im just now getting my crew together I just came across your channel hope you can show me some ways to make my productions company better.
Really enjoyed your presentation. Might I suggest taking your excellent insights into specific roles in a team and illuminating on how to go about prospecting and working with those specific roles? For instance I am weak in secretarial and would love to find secretarial aid. Could you possibly zoom in on team roles and how to prospect for those roles?
This information is gold! Everything that was spoken I have and am experiencing with my production team. I have struggled with bringing on new members to my team because of past failures but am definitely in need of help.
Y Cre8te Films? Remember timing is everything. It’s a useful time to be nimble and lean and hire in talent when you need it.
Really good. My production company Jumpstart Films is exactly at the points you cover. Well lit, well said, well done!
Thanks for this gave me insight and the confidence to keep going!
Great video Simeon! Quick question, how do you go about getting clients with a small portfolio?
Thank you and God bless sir!
Very useful video Simeon, so interesting to hear how you have built the business. I'd love to see more like this - the challenges that you have faced
Gavin Gallagher thank you! I'm really pleased that this video seems to have been enjoyed. Let me see if I can dig a little deeper
Great video, Helped me a lot!
I play the video game "grand theft auto" and before playing it I wanted to film and edit videos and the game has a creator mode where u can film your game play and edit the clips into videos which I have a few music videos I recreated on my channel, but I want to get a computer and a camera so I can turn this into a actual music video company....glad i found this video.for some reason I woke up...smoked a blunt, then something made my search how to start a filming company now im here......

Sounds like the fear’s still there lol 1:16
David Garzon daily! Lol doing all yourself is scary. Having a team is scary lol. Just got to choose which suits you lol
@@simeonquarrie legit this is so true lol
i heard that voice broke again to lol
@@simeonquarrie How your voice broke like that i had to laugh 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Simone. Very good video. I have just started a product company and workload has start to pile up very fast as I have to multitask shooting, editing, marketing and etc. I have got 2 freelancers working for me for shooting and editing but it's still not enough as I'm spending too much time editing and not doing marketing. What would you suggest for my situation?
Thumbs up! Kinda addicted to you channel man! Keep it coming :)
Sane House thanks Sane :)
Really great content. Thank you!
Awesome! really valuable.
Hey Simeon.
Please post more often. I see you are very quite lately.
Much love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️
Yes you are right! Apologies. I changed up my business quite a bit. A number of videos are being released with Canon soon. Yes you are right, it would be great to get some content up here. I’ve moved from behind the camera mostly now.
Awesome video and info. Can you elaborate on when you made the move from home to an office? Was it as soon as you brought the first editor in as a freelancer or fulltime?
this was very detailed information thanks
This was a great video, I am looking to start a production company and have the slightest idea of where to start as I have been freelancing and working alone for some years now. Looking to expand and do larger projects I know the one man show approach wont work so this video was really helpful.
Durell Morgan collaboration is also another great option. Good luck
Thanks for sharing these valuable information Simon. I would love to hear how you go about marketing your production company and bring on consistent clientele and what is your favorite platform for advertising?
Thanks again and keep up the great work! 😀
Ilia Fouladvand still learning here! Lets see what we can do!
I needed this
Great advice, I am excited to get my projects underway. As a screenwriter and producer, I've written a phenomenal feature and a short film that is now in the post-production stage with our editors. Already making huge steps in the film industry for Vancouver B.C. Canada and looking forward to starting a production company. Thank you so much Simeon. You give wonderful support and tips.
Do it!!! How did it go?
Love this video!!! The info is invaluable SUB for life lol! Thanks for sharing
Charles Sexton that’s what I like to hear. Good luck with your endeavours!
Nice explanation! It’s good to hear this side of team creation in such a concise and logical order. I have a business based on my patents. My business is not film production, but works with film producers. I’m researching how to have my business be helpful for film producers without being annoying lol. Are there any forums you recommend for reading and learning the needs of film producers?
Thanks for asking. Felix Vlassis may have a view. He was our producer for a number of years
this is so useful!!
Really good info here, thank you sir.
Thanks for the video l appreciate u
Very good go bless
Currently working on growing a media team. Much Appreciated!
Me too, and I have no idea what I'm doing. This was very insightful.
its good great advice, so much gold nugget
great tips, it gaves me some good idea yeah !
Hi, Simon. Really nice to hear some down to earth thoughts about the process - it would be amazing to hear more of your journey and how you went from being an amateur videographer to a professional (getting paid consistently for your work). Subbed and clicked the alarm bell!
Danyal Fryer thank you very much :) the subject suggestion is really good too
Thank you, Simeon! I'm going to find time to watch through your videos - great production values and overall just good tidbits of useful advice and insight into the industry. I'm glad you think it's a good suggestion - I always want to better understand the thought and creative processes behind decisions being made or techniques being used - the ever elusive "WHY" :D
Great video! I'm very interested in learning more about how to structure pricing when you're working with a team. On the client side but also internally with freelancers employees etc.
for me... its like..."where do I get the money from"?
Thank you
Great Video!
Hey Simon.
Thank you very much for your wonderfull tipz..
After watching this video i had no choice but to subscribe and follow you on all social media accounts
I really love what you are doing. Much love from South Africa.I would really love to work in London..How will i know when you recruiting again??
Cr8ive Kraal love you for that. I’ll try and make a new video
great stuff
Great video, useful and inspirational!! Regards from Argentina!
This made my day! Hi Argentina!
Thank you.
I'm into filming too thanks 4 the info
very valuble info
This video hit home for me! I am looking to grow a small team to help me with my production but I also had my concerns about freelancers stealing my ideas as a producer and actor. I also had the conversation about employing a videographer/editor full time in order to have them on my team just like you have mentioned. PLEASE, could you do a video on how you would know how much to pay your videographer (salary wise) and if you offer commission based salaries?. Obviously freelancers can set their own prices for projects, but how much would be a good starting salary amount in order for it to be attractive and reflect the amount of business your company generates? It would be nice to know for my future ambitions. new subbie xx
Lola Jagun hey thanks so much for your comment and words of support. Head over to my website and drop the team an email and I'll try and answer offline :)
Will do thanks x
all about contracts nondisclosure
How do you start a event production company and hiring a time without worrying that someone on your team won’t steal the idea. I know I have to trademark, register the business, by the domain name and email. I’m currently building a team but I don’t want my ideas going some where else. You get what I mean!
@@simeonquarrie what's the answer, please?
I've always been a talent...but never had the know how or desire to be in charge...I'm super scared about making the step
Very helpful video. Congratulations on your business.
Timothy Schroyer thanks timothy
thank you
I'm building a small team of two. How do you decide what to pay your team?
I was intrigued by your openness to receive people with potential but who had little-to-no skill. How does one position themselves for consideration of a production company (Besides being hungry, humble and honest, of course)? Should it be a company that is very young? Thank you.
Awesome video as always. Thanks very much for sharing. Could you make a video on shooting real estate videos one of these days? That would be really great!
Hassan Salih thanks for the support!
Whats your opinion on outsourcing some work from other counties.
inspiring!
Thanks for sharing more insight on this process. I had the experience of working with a very talented editor, thought it would be a perfect match. Sad to say it was a learning experience , he turned out to be dishonest, hijacked concepts discussed in strategy meetings. My opinion based on this experience is also seek out partners who are willing to put skin in the game as well!
Gregory A. Tucker I’m sorry Gregory. I feel your pain. I’ve been through it. And I will in the future. Ultimately people are out for themselves. In someways it’s as it should be. We have to focus on the win win for us and also team. After doing extensive research, I’ve realised that most people will only stick around for 1-3 years and most.
thanks you for tips bor
Nice sharing. Love your content. I think Im undergoing your experience currently.
Brian Jyl all the best!! Its fun and scary at the same time.
thank you for this video
Rostom Chennouf My pleasure!
Very nice frame and light. None of those funky LED colors.
You should see my new videos 😆 funky colours and LEDs. I do love this clean look though
Lovely video , full of information . Must follow your 3Hs
PRANJALI PRADHAN I’m very glad you enjoyed
What advice can u give to a total beginner. I love the media world and is working hard to buy most of the equipments I will need for photography and videos. But I just don't know how to start and attract the clients I need
Hi. What gear(lights, lighting set up, camera, lenses, mic, etc did you use to shoot this youtube video?
Thanks!
Adam Kleid howdy! I used a C300mkii and 2 Rotolight Anova Pros :)
Can you talk about how partner with agencies? How does that partnership work?
Hello I'm interesting on Filmmaking, how to start my own film production I need some advice?
i thought you were going to talk about the logistics of doing this
you know the physical steps. what departments and positions do i need to fill
Great way of explaining the idea of hiring someone with the ability to learn and the right mental attitude. I feel like there are so many benefits to this approach! We are also in the process of growing our production company.
Burning Boat thank you for commenting! Congrats on the growth.
