Quick backstory for the hole-out at 3:33... Short Par 4. Pouring rain (play is suspended shortly afterwards). Tee shot goes into bunker. 2nd shot goes from bunker to bunker. 3rd shot goes from bunker to bunker AGAIN. Then he does that for par. Phil. Mickelson.
It takes a gigantic amount of confidence to hit a short shot that hard. Hit it perfectly and you're close to the hole. Hit it even slightly off and you're probably looking at being 80 yards into the surrounding trees.
Not really. Flop shots aren’t really that difficult. For players at that level the biggest risk is just misjudging the distance slightly, which can leave you in the rough or bunker or something, because you’re typically hitting them without much green to work with I was a club pro for a few years in my 20s. I could 100 flop shots and not wind up 80 yards into the trees like you’re describing a single time, and Phil is 100 levels past where I ever was. That’s really only something that would happen to a high handicapper with any regularity
@@hlf_coder6272 I simple basic flop shot isn't that hard.... nut one where you are 20+yds from the green buried in rough up to your ankles and you have to put as much power behind it as you would if you were driving it off the green just to try to get it out of the mess it's in is EXTREMELY difficult and if you hit it wrong it could either not move at all or go (as the other guy said) "80yds pas the hole"
Also the video at 4:38.....that is such an amazing shot. If that would’ve went in I would almost put that up there with a par 3 hole in 1. The difficulty to check it in the rough like that multiple times at just the right speed for it to stop at the hole is something else. That shot and the video after (which is another amazing shot) were so great I looked up the tournament and was very happy to find out that was this year. So great to see him looking good and shooting amazing golf shots to this day.
Not my favourite golfer, but he is one fine player and has one of the best flop and sand shots of anyone. Love it when He and Tiger are battling down then stretch.
Phil is the greatest in the world for the shirt game. I don't care what anyone says he's the greatest there's ever been. His personality to is nothing like most golfers really is a idol to someone like me who loves risk reward golf and tries to simulate everythig je does because he's the greatest
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3)
I totally admire Phil Mickelson. To no denigration to Phil, I was watching a Seinfeld episode about the 'bro' or 'manzier'. To qoute Kramer when they mentioned George Castanza's bulging breasts, Jerry said 'lots of men have breasts.' And Kramer said...'Oh, these are real hooters.' Phil bounces beneath his shirt when he walks. Does he have real hooters? Sorry, Phil.
You can say the same nonsense with driver, putter, irons, woods : "It's not that hard, you just have to..." But he masters and you don't, otherwise you'll be on the video, not behind your screen.
Marc masters what? He’s a great wedge player. But hold your tongue when I’ve been a close to scratch golfer for 20 years now. The greatest iron tip I ever had as a young kid was to hit down at the ball. Try to trap the ball with the iron and the wedge. Take your 7 iron and hit some balls with that mindset. Then take your 60 or 58, open it up and do the same thing. I admire Mickelson and Tiger for these shots. Too many younger pros are scared to attempt this stuff. But if you have some money you’d like to lose.. you are more than welcome to come play 9 with me any time you want.. As for the videos.. would be amazing.. Sorry, I’m sorry me being in the top 2.5% of golfers who track their handicap is awful lmfao.. yea I’ve never been lower than a 6 handicap and that was at 12 years old. 😂😀
@@guccidumptruck3303 It's just that saying "playing golf (or flop shot) isn't hard, you just have to..." is a stupid remark from an arrogant guy. According to experts, golf is the most complex sport in the world, with the vault.

Love seeing Jordan trying to figure out where the ball came from at 6:07
This is the personification of "hold my beer."
Phil and Tiger. Most creative and artistic golfing engineers.
Shoulda been around to watch Seve play. Couldn't hit fairways for ****, but from then on in he was good. Mr. Hogan wasn't too bad either.
Love the phrase 'golfing engineers '

Incredible player. Just amazing short game. If he was a good putter, who knows how many majors he would have.
0:57 Gary McCord laughing always cracks me up. CBS pissed me off so much when they fired him.
why did the fire him
@@dylansomma861 They wanted someone younger. They just fired Gary without any notice. CBS just treated him like crap. It was super sad.

We could of played that first shot over and over of the 8 minutes and 32 seconds over this video and not been bored!
They're all great but that last one is unbelievable
Love Phil
My favorite player.
he really should have won 150 tour events and 20 majors with that short game - more natural talent and feel than any player in history imo
Lol no.
I thought that was widely considered to be John Daly
4:37. Unreal.
8:23 has to be the best bunker shot I will ever see.
Let’s go Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Insane!
He actually does have 10 degrees of bounce on his wedge..... if he didnt the club would go right underneath the ball

I stumbled upon a 60 deg with 10 degrees of bounce. It's a miracle club out of the bunker.
when he shakes his legs you know hes gonna make it
Best short game ever. Thats why he has 3 green jackets.

Hes actually right handed
Garbage video quality
Problem is he also hits a higher percentage nowhere close, totally cherry picking
The flop shot isn’t all that hard. Just open it up and hit down.
