      This music deserves to be played on free [AM & FM] radio, but the broadcasters prefer junk music over fine music. That is why their listener shares are lower than the Forest Glen.🤣

      I must confess that when death strikes someone, one begins to rest in peace, regardless of the place where the person died. However, I am fortunate or lucky to capture this fine music on RUclips. Free [AM and FM] radio would not play it anymore, except to hear whisps of it in a commercial. This fine music is my speed, and no new stuff could replace it from me.

      Yes indeed, and also to the other half of his back beat none other than incredible drummer William Benny "Papa Zita" Benjamin Jr.
      Not to take anything away from the other incredible Funk Brothers musicians, but those two were the very foundation and back beat of the Motown Sound. It's kind of ironic to me how both passed at similar ages after similar professional and personal challenges.

      The marvelettes choreography, like that of most of the early Motown acts, was designed by the legendary cholly Atkins, who was on staff in Detroit as the label’s chief stage choreographer. He designed steps for the Supremes, temptations, Smokey Robinson and the miracles, Gladys knight and the Pips, and the Jackson 5, among many others. Even after Motown let Atkins go when the company made the move from Detroit to Hollywood, some of the acts, including the Spinners, during their Atlantic Records years, independently commissioned Cholly to create their steps.

    Smokey was so pleased with what Wanda was giving his songs. There was never a plan to replace Gladys with Wanda as lead singer. Many people on the label have told me that. It just happened at the time that what Wanda was recording just stood out more; in time Gladys would be singing leads on singles again. Or as Martha said, "They just wanted to give someone else a chance." Unfortunately, neither Gladys nor Wanda could handle the situation comfortably but, then again, who could?

    Once again, the master at work. Clean, precise, with a great understated bass line. Nothing overdone, nothing out of place. But then again, did we expect anything else?

      You got pure taste. You act like a gentleman more than you would ever say. If anyone does not like it, they had better "kiss off" and get with the program, while they continue to live on borrowed time. Life is too short to be miserable.👌

    I'm not sure sure how Smokey may feel about remixers 'messin'" with his classic productions, but this extended reworking is slinky feline hot, and even "Bill" would have to agree that you messed with him just fine!

    A group not too well known anymore, but wow these little angelic voices of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, and Wanda Young could probably make God smile. Some of their songs were written by some names you might know(Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson)
    Please search for "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" also great by this group.

    Its sad the Marvelettes don't get much credit for being the first female group of the company to give them a number one hit record. All the attention goes to the Supremes and the Vandellas. These girls laid down the pavement for those two groups to walk on. Though the Supremes were the first female group to sign with the company it was the Marvelettes that got the first hit.

      @@queenielee9537 Truly amazing. They really did epitomize the "Original" Girl Group Phenomenon before the British Invasion. Another sad fact was that a couple of years ago, a UK TV Special saluted the Music of The Carpenters whom as you know did Please Mr. Postman that they took to Number One in 1975. A Girlband sang "Please Mr. Postman not knowing who did the "Original". Gladys Horton Co-Wrote The Song and never got "Paid".

    • @Modelt5000
      @Modelt5000 4 года назад +6

      @@laminage William Garrett wrote an unfinished version of Please Mr Postman and Georgia Dobbins a girl that started with girls before she quit took the song home and reshaped it.
      Freddie Gorman, Robert Bateman and Brian Holland beefed it up and produced it. There goes a hit. Gladys Horton didn't receive credit or money for it because she didn't write or co-write.
