To me the most beautiful cartridge is the 300 Holland Holland, it stands there on a table, looking like an Atlas Rocket. That subtle shoulder is like nothing else.
I relate a lot to Ryan, appreciation for the classics and obscure stuff, knowledge and curiosity of oddball cartridges. Good to see another youngish fella that’s not only into glocks and ar’s.
For the upcoming cartridge talks, please do an episode discussing 9mm, .357 mag, 10mm & .44 mag both from a sidearm and it's companion carbine! Do we use the same ammo for self-defense in both firearms? Do we use the same ammo for hunting in both firearms?
Mark pulled me to his side when he said he didn’t like the Beatles and Ryan countered strongly with he listens to a lot of Tool. I’ll just say both you guys are awesome (jury’s still out on Jimmy, just kidding). Merry Christmas to you guys and all the Vortex crew.
Leupold discontinued their fxII ultralight fixed 2x scope. There’s hardly anyone making fixed quality optics except for maybe nightforce competition 4x. I think vortex should make a razor 2x or 3x fixed optic but add the red dot. There’s plenty of people that would want something like that whether it’s a lever gun, 458 win mag or hunting guides in Alaska or just for people who what a light weight high quality simple optic for their hunting rifle especially on the east coast when you don’t need magnification but want the benefits of glass over irons with long eye relief. I would be first in line to buy one.
Prisms are designed for picatinny rails. There still needs to be optics made for bolt actions and lever actions with a large ocular lens. Prisms don’t offer great clarity and you can’t see very much usually there’s a lot of color distortion and all the junk around them just makes the viewing like looking through a hole in a truck. It’s very popular in Africa to use an aim point 9000l which is great for dangerous game and hogs but there is no magnification. The benefit is there is no eye relief limit which allows the optic to sit all the way forward in the rings that gives more room for you to get a really positive grip on the bolt to charge the bolt handle in quick situations. There’s a hole in the market and vortex needs to fill it. The market has moved toward lvpos where there’s adjustability but I think for hunting purposes too many people need to make a follow up shot and rely too much on magnification and then once they need to make that follow up they get lost in the sauce. Gotta keep it simple stupid. Less moving parts less to go wrong. Fixed is robust
Hey Guys! Awesome podcast as usual! Couple of things: Please do the 358 Winchester on a cartridge talk!!! Look at Ron Spomer’s comparison with the 308. My 358 started life in 1990 as a factory Browning 7mm-08 BLR. Had a 21” 358 barrel with a 0.7” end of barrel counter screwed on for better balance and recoil management. I shoot Hornady 200 grain spire points for deer and 200 grain TTSX for anything bigger. Would love to hear your recommendations for bullets. I know it’s not for cross canyon shooting but here in Georgia we sometimes measure shots in feet rather than yards. 😊. And, I’ve heard y’all state that would like to shoot some big rifles. Why don’t you contact Scott at Kentucky Ballistics and put together a show for both channels? He has every imaginable BIG rifle to try. Hope y’all consider both! Thanks!!
No on sunglasses because when you get to be an old geezer you have a hard time seeing ANYTHING in the woods much less with sunglasses on. But for driving I think it’s a must or if your bird hunting in a blind facing the sun they can be a lifesaver! 😊
My dad has his grandpa's 4 digit seriel number model 70 in 30-06. "5xxx"if I remember correctly. Beautiful rifle. Not sure what year that puts it at, but gotta be early!
My old gun recommendations if you have a deep budget: 1. Bren gun 2. Remington model 8 3. Anything with a full mannlicher stock 4. If it’s even legal PKP pecheneg 5. DP28 6. Makarov pistol 7. Tokarev pistol
Mark needs an ultralight over barrel supressor, only 2” extra length, not enuf to snag on trees but his lady will love it (less noise hunting toger. Haha)
Get a Suppressor Mark. Gotta Protect the Hearing. Also, there are unfortunate listeners out here, like me, who are from regions that you cannot have legally obtained Suppressors. Greetings from Canada.
Mark, I too take things personally a lot more often than not-I was writing a nice comment until you said disliked the beatles. I can't make you feel any better, I hope your vests sits heavy on one side all day on thr next bad Wednesday you have. Happy holidays gents. Hope its a great one
Mark had a rough childhood and was dropped way too many times and he hasn’t liked the Beatles since and the brain surgery didn’t go good for him either with the only available brain that wasn’t used was Joe Biden’s 😳🤣 So we have to cut him a little slack on the Beatles😵💫 but he still needs to get a suppressor 🙌
Classic lever gun. Winchester model 88. Such a smooth action on them. I have 2 calibers that i got from one of my Dad's friends. One for varmint, one for deer.
For the question old rifle recommendations. Old guns people may not know about would be a great podcast episode Ithaca LSA-55 , made by Tikka, for example.
@ the Rigby is cool but the rifles for them are super expensive and not for the regular hunter who wants to go to Africa. The model 70 in 416 rem mag is the rifleman’s rifle for everyone.
@@frontlinerejects8029 Love your guys' channel! I'd love tobsee a 95gr lrx tested or a 70gr cx. I bought some 90gr eldx to load after watching. Mark better get a can! I have a 16 inch AR15 based on the KE Arms WWSD rifle or the CDR. It has a faxon pencil barrel in 5.56 and it’s such a nice rifle to handle. I haven’t weighed it but it’s extremely lightweight. I actually took my first deer when I was 10 years old with a surplus 8mm Mauser variant and it dropped the deer. Great video
I did a modern "Scout Rifle Concept" rifle. I took a Ruger SFAR in 308. Put a LPVO on it, a Vortex Viper PST Gen 2, 1 - 6. I've debated on putting a 1 - 8 Strike Eagle on it instead. Give a little more magnification

You guys should do a .224 Valkyrie cartridge talk. I've noticed it's not a common choice for many people, such as common uses, specs, parent case and such.
The best way to manage rifle recoil is to have done else shoot the gun😳🤣 I know a little bit about managing recoil! I had a drunk driver hit me head on at 60+ mph and almost severed my neck. My neck is wrapped in titanium plates front and rear and 7 1/2 hours on the table and still told by my doctor a heavy recoil rifle could still damage my spine enough to kill me😱 But I hunt anyway because I have been hunting reloading and collecting rifles 60+ years and it’s the only thing in my life that has stayed with me my whole life and I have found a rifle had to fit you perfect and then the perfect recoil pad and a muzzle break that takes at least 50% of the recoil🙌 So all my hunting rifles have those 3 things in order for me too hunt with them. With about a 100 guns a year between rifles and pistol that I buy and 3 sons who love guns as much as I do they have some with those 3 things and some without depending on the gun and if it’s one of my very nice collectible rifles like my pre64’s and Browning Safari’s and Sako’s
I’m running Talley QDs on a skinner scout rail with back up sights. I tested the remounted and I found at 100 yards there was no noticeable difference. I do believe at a far distance it would be more likely to see but for a thick wood Midwest still hunting rifle I’ll never be shooting much past 100 yards anyhow.
@20:00 I'm pretty sure the 30-40 Krag talk was on "America's Cartridge." Y'all went to Ryan's choice and there was some mockery that he was going to pick the Krag. Ryan quoted Teddy Roosevelt's opinion of the Krag and then y'all moved on.

10 minute talks can last 4 hours and I’ll listen to every minute
No such thing as too long with these guys
The sticker on the sweater sleeve has my ocd going wild. Now i have to watch to see if Ryan will call out Jim on this issue...
We all know Jim wears a medium, but it does look a little small. He could probably handle a large .
I am really glad I’m not the only one that noticed!
I love it, at least I know I’m not the only one who has forgotten to do that once or twice.
I just noticed that he put the sticker on his sleeve at 2:30.
Great to see my man Jims knowledge of Spongebob and that he wears a Medium size shirt
I 100% listened to this podcast at work at my desk, headset on like i was in a meeting. brilliant!
Merry Christmas! Get a Suppressor Mark!
Fresh out of the merch pile and onto Jimmy for the show. Size stickers are the new elbow patches. 😂😂😂
He Okey doked us with the sticker at 2:30
Thank you for all you guys do. Merry Christmas to you all, your families, and to the Vortex nation.
To me the most beautiful cartridge is the 300 Holland Holland, it stands there on a table, looking like an Atlas Rocket. That subtle shoulder is like nothing else.
We were saying the same thing about it 70 years ago🙌
Merry Christmas guys and gals at Vortex.
"I feel like this is an intervention" 😂😂😂
I appreciate everything you guys do, it gives me something to look forward to while working
happy holidays
This was all enjoyable but the last 10 minutes were solid gold😆
My daughter took a doe with a 6 ARC. Excellent result.
Nice story bro.
I'm excited for the cartridge talks, ive been waiting¡
Merry Christmas Vortex Boys and to all the Vortex Nation!
I relate a lot to Ryan, appreciation for the classics and obscure stuff, knowledge and curiosity of oddball cartridges. Good to see another youngish fella that’s not only into glocks and ar’s.
Keep up the great work guys !! Thanks for the info and the entertainment 😅
Great podcast. Merry Christmas guys.
My first thought was a ruger #1 as well. But in 7mm Mauser
I knewi it wouldn't be the final season to Spaghetti Shootout, we all look forward to season 4 😊
For the upcoming cartridge talks, please do an episode discussing 9mm, .357 mag, 10mm & .44 mag both from a sidearm and it's companion carbine!
Do we use the same ammo for self-defense in both firearms? Do we use the same ammo for hunting in both firearms?
Love the sticker on Jim’s sweater!
If mark doesn’t have a suppressor picked out and purchased by Easter he owes me a Vortex Nation hoody. 👀
At this point Mark isn't gonna buy a silencer for the same reason Jimmy wont buy a 300WSM.

I think the reason fixed-low powered scopes arent common is because of prisms. 2x and 3x are perfect for prisms and microprisms.
Love ya guys, thank you so much for some awesome content, god bless!!!
The 6.5 creedmore with a 16” inch barrel and a suppressor and a super good recoil pad for kids first gun🙌 I have 7 kids and it’s just works 👏

Annual Q&A. Love It.
I wanna see mark asking the questions on the shootout while jim and ryan discuss be interesting 🤔
No on sunglasses because when you get to be an old geezer you have a hard time seeing ANYTHING in the woods much less with sunglasses on. But for driving I think it’s a must or if your bird hunting in a blind facing the sun they can be a lifesaver! 😊
Good morning vortex nation merry Christmas Eve
Yes please continue with the q&a
Where do we request " by popular demand" videos? I'd love to hear one on 338-06.
You guys have talked me into calibers that I didn't know I needed, until I watched your videos.
Title of this should be “Questions answered by Ryan”. Merry Christmas folks
My dad has his grandpa's 4 digit seriel number model 70 in 30-06. "5xxx"if I remember correctly. Beautiful rifle. Not sure what year that puts it at, but gotta be early!
For an old style rifle, the Marlin/Ruger 1894 in .357/.38 is hard to beat. You can take small to medium game or light load .38s for plinking.
Jimmy is on a roll !! Bashing on Ryan 😮
Ryan coming out as a dungeon and dragons nerd and tool fan just elevated him so highly.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good sight!
Mark…..The suppresser is now a Mandate 😅😅❤
I hate suppressors too being a very old geezer but I still think Mark should get one so we can get one more real hunters opinion on it.
The 243 used to be the great varmint cartridge but I agree the 6.5 creed more is a better choice and I don’t even like the 6.5 needmore😳
Merry Christmas guys! You’re podcast is a great one.
Mark is 100% correct on that bug band
Great talk guys Merry Christmas
so many of these large calibres have so few needing such power or heft. As for AR's for rec use lead balloons.
Ryan's intelligent demeanor and the fact that he listens to tool.... it just adds up. I like ryan even more now.
Yes! I’ll get my first suppressor when Mark does. I’m waiting on him. I’ve been on the fence for too long myself.
My old gun recommendations if you have a deep budget: 1. Bren gun 2. Remington model 8 3. Anything with a full mannlicher stock 4. If it’s even legal PKP pecheneg 5. DP28 6. Makarov pistol 7. Tokarev pistol
Semi auto PKs exist (parts kits with American receivers and FCG conversion parts) but theyre availability isn't something I can speak to.
I'm glad this wasn't a 10-minute talk I drove from Maine to North Carolina with this as part of the trip
Question: what is the best overall cartridge and why is it the 7mm-08??? LOL
Laughs in 30-06
@@Westerner_300wm
Or 7mag for smaller game

Greetings from Canada.
Ryan needs to have a collectors rifle buying 101 podcast. I am sure Mark would appreciate the older cartridges that are not 300wsm
Now I want to know about Ryan's High Wall
Merry Christmas guys! Good show! Y’all sound like brothers in a hunting blind!
Happy holidays! Get a suppressor Mark!😂🎉
Mark, I too take things personally a lot more often than not-I was writing a nice comment until you said disliked the beatles. I can't make you feel any better, I hope your vests sits heavy on one side all day on thr next bad Wednesday you have.

On the Youth Gun Topic:
The Biggest Issue to me was not even noise, it's the blast. A linear compensator can help with that.
Would love to see a review of a Browning BBR
Very great and very underrated gun🙌
@edwardabrams4972 i have one sitting in my safe in 30-06, it reminds me of a weatherby mark v, yes it is a great rifle!
Classic lever gun. Winchester model 88. Such a smooth action on them. I have 2 calibers that i got from one of my Dad's friends. One for varmint, one for deer.
Love the content!!! Is it possible to do a 10min talk on 375 Raptor and what its closest rival is that is maybe better? Thanks again!!
Mark if you have ever had some good moose back strap you would make a hunt to the motherland ASAP🙌
10MinuteTalk 1:31:13 Awesome!! 🤣😂🤣
Wood stock rifle today im looking for a 375 or larger, 375 Ruger being a top contender.
Merry Christmas guys! Happy Christmas to Jim lol
For the question old rifle recommendations.
Old guns people may not know about would be a great podcast episode
Ithaca LSA-55 , made by Tikka, for example.
🙌👏👊 Now that would be a reason for us old geezers to watch!
We need a 416 rem mag talk
That would be nice but the Rigby would be better because it’s one of the great classics and my sons have a few of them I got them🙌
@ the Rigby is cool but the rifles for them are super expensive and not for the regular hunter who wants to go to Africa. The model 70 in 416 rem mag is the rifleman’s rifle for everyone.
Is that George Costanza in the background?? 😂

Merry Christmas!
257 and 300 weatherby are the most aesthetically pleasing to me. Those radius shoulders

Which one? They go from flimsy crappy stocks to decent ones, the howa barreled action is solid regardless of what stock it is dropped in.
