Its fucking brave to put out that it could be the mothers choice that leads to her children growing up without a father. It's so backwards, so alien that we demonize an unknown figure when the real culprit is unseen. It's Horrid, loving, real, petty and understandable. Something i had forgot happened in my family. Fuck
Like him hits hard for me, I almost ended up without a dad because of my mom. He almost didn’t get any custody at all when he went to court, I could’ve very easily ended up exactly like Tyler. My mom regrets what she did but the song makes me think about how I would’ve felt if my dad never got any type of custody which was VERY close to happening.
But we can’t excuse the father completely. He could have used the court to his advantage. Many men just give up when they don’t have to. There are resources out there for men, but most just say eff it when they don’t have to. Don’t get me wrong…. I’m not praising the mother and her choices. I’m just simply saying, there er choices made on both sides there were choices made on both sides.
That’s a stretch. Igor is definitely the peak of what he’s capable of. If his next album he actually takes a huge shift from his normal sound and improves his singing and changes production style, then I’ll say it’s an improvement
@@understanding77 igor wasn't a huge shift, flower boy was and igor was just slightly leaning into that more. Honestly I'd say he improved his singing and changed his production style here so it kind of matches igor for me right now
I think the last line of "like him" is him saying I DON'T look like him. He lets everything towards his dad go that he is only a image of his mom. His mom speaking threw me off at first but I think it proves his dad didn't try to be in his life. His mom just tried covering for the absent father to help Tyler.
I disagree I feel his mom kept his dad out of his life because she was living the life she wanted to live and never thought that it would be addressed but Tyler didn't let it go and used that hate to fuel his career. She felt guilty enough to finally addressed it and Tyler wanted his father to know he now knows the truth. Same is the song Answer he wrote that for his dad as well.
I disagree, if she can admit he’s dad actually wanted to be in his life then it goes to show how irresponsible and manipulative his mum was… a lot of mums do this and it’s fucked up
Pretty sure the album is about tyler scared of who he is, what he looks like, what people will think about what he does/who he dates what gender he dates (killed you-"If they see you on top of me i gotta leave") pretty much being the oppsite of igor . Him starting to accept what he is and starts figuring his life out learning the past to let the past pass but noticing he might be running out of time to love
tyler is one of very few (if any) artists that I've grown up and continued to listen to. chromakopia is genuinely his best album because of how gut-wrenchingly vulnerable it is. i 100% think mr morale has a lot of influence on him in a great way. i hope that through him, more people are inspired to be vulnerable, especially in times like these. absolutely incredible video man ❤ hoping this is giving more attention to this video bc you deserve it!!!!!

Fantastic overview of a fantastic album. I love how you point out things i didnt really see anyone else noticing before like the fact that the Estate Sale tracks have overlapping themes with Chromakopia. Great video!
The album was a whiplash for me, as someone who has an ex who unfortunately took their own life and who has spent years in the closet for many things, and someone who has tried to wall themself off, the album went from what felt like the usual rapper fare which wouldnt be too surprisingly since Tyler obviously cant make every album deep, only to get hit in the face with songs tackling the exact topics that have plagued me, and coming from a genre which with all love is typically more about the spectacle than the emotion with the obvious exceptions out there having an album that spoke to me from an artist ive admired ever since Bastard sent me into genuine tears even on repeat listens. This album didn't hit me at first, but on second listen I fell in love. That's usually how its gone with Tyler projects for me since flower boy. This album is so fucking good, it's probably my favorite in his discography. I wish I had someone in my life who also appreciated tylers music. I used to, but he's been gone for awhile now. He would have loved it
Incredibly intricate and nuanced analysis. Could not agree more with what you said about learning more from this album as you age. I also grew up listening to Tyler and his ability to express himself inspires me to reflect and learn more about myself. All his albums provide that opportunity but the maturity of this album seems to amplify that effect.
Honestly I relate to like him but not in an absent father but like being compared to him because he’s a pretty terrible person and I feel like I’m being chased by the idea of ending up horrible like him and that’s why Tyler is absolutely amazing because one song can have a lot of meaning for different people in different reasons
Chroma also refers to the intensity of color within a work of art. I view the title as a reference that life is not just black and white but full of colors and shades that define it, whether pretty or ugly next to each other. An ensemble (a Cornucopia of Color if u will) that is more beautiful together.
Really excellent video! I'm not really the brightest in the bunch even with my passion for arts and music, so for my first listen to this album, I gave it a 7.8/10. I was expecting something like early Tyler era. But due to your explanation and a couple repeats to the album after release, it really helped open my eyes to Tyler's brilliance on this work! Keep up the great explanations as you help my slow brain understand more about the meanings lol
HAPPY ABOUT THE INGLORIOUS CONNECTION EVERYONE SAYS ANSWER BUT AS AN INGLORIOUS FAN LIKE HIM WAS LIKE THEEEEE ULTIMATE CLOSURE also this video is awesome this needs more views asap
While I’m not this albums intended audience, I still resonate with its themes. Especially as a 20 something year old still trying to figure things out. Tyler is the most raw artist and is greatly misunderstood by too many. Great video, I appreciate the album so much more now that you helped put the pieces together ❤
Wow. Amazing work on this video, brother! You did such an incredible job constructing your ideas and it really resonates with how I feel about the entire record. Awesome job!!
Props! I give you so much thanks for the in depth detailing and looking at certain topics from different perspectives. Not many reviews and vids really put this much effort and thought into your work. Thank you.
I feel like this is the only video really, truly giving Chromakopia the justice it deserves and actually explores the themes he has throughout this album and how it truly is a masterpiece
I think this video is great. One comment I have, is that for the first verse of take your mask off, the line “You in Drama Club, you an Actor” to me means it quite literally - the person is trying so hard to not be perceived as soft, but he was in drama club, he loved acting, he does things that are typically perceived as “not masculine” in a type of way that he feels the need to overcompensate. I do think tyler calling him an actor could definitely be for him just faking happiness when he is fundamentally sad, but to me, ever since the first listen i’ve always heard it as it being an ironic overcompensation to his inadequacy. Or, even further, a broader commentary on people from well off backgrounds who attempt to act hard to build a reputation off of it - A good kid in drama club in a well off family with both parents who never gets enough attention and believes that if he had a rougher background he’d be respected more in life, and that’s his mask, that he’s overcompensating for respect. Just my thoughts, since I love that song to death and I think almost every line is full of beautiful storytelling and analysis, especially with lines like “Mama your first name your last one got changed”, all 4 stories (with the slight exception of tyler’s story himself) being up for interpretation as to the broader details.
I've only just gotten into Tyler so I have no idea about his previous albums but I've listened to chromakopia all the way though about 5 times. It truly is an amazing album. Even without deeper knowledge, you can enjoy his lyricism and storytelling through the songs. As a woman, listening to "hey jane" left me floored. The way he was able to express feelings that I myself have felt about the scares of pregnancy, just hit me so hard.
w video man, I love videos like this and was actually thinking about needing one while listening to the album because of how in depth these types of videos are (especially this one). I also like this video because his has details that I would have DEFINETLY missed.

Great vid and great album too! Im so glad someone finally made a video explaining this album, i love Tyler, the Creator and this album just left me with questions. Love this video man, keep it up!
I'm a filipino and not black but yeah I also felt you, because I used to hate my afro hair by forcing to straighten it, because I used to have one myself before I just gave it a bald cut nowadays. And the reason why I want it to straighten it is not because I'm trying to follow society's beauty standards, I already find that idiotic as a kid, but instead I always wanted a long hair but can't so I gave up on that dream hair. Now my dream hair is just giving it an lower taper fade (black dude style) if I'm gonna take another haircut nextime.
As a Christian, the preacher line of Take your mask off is super potent. To me, a lot of people use Christianity as guise to indulge in their sinful ways and use Christianity as a cover up or a scapegoat and it's those people that give Christianity the bad look. The Bible clearly states homosexuality is a sin but homophobia in the sense of judging and demeaning people is also a sin. The Bible clearly states you should love people even if they sin. And I know gay people and I still love them because the Bible says to love them. And there's a difference between loving them and accepting their sin. I will never condone their sin but I will always love them despite their choices.
With the deepest of respect, I believe telling someone they sin because they are gay is homophobia. The trope of “loving the person but hating the sin” is deeply homophobic. It’s not a choice, in the same respect I didn’t choose to be straight. The whole point of the preacher verse isn’t that he’s “hiding sin”, is that he’s a hypocrite who’s been indoctrinated by his religion to preach hate. If you read Tyler’s lyrics, it clearly positions this preacher “living his truth” so to speak, as a gay person as a positive and as freedom.
@MarLoria the whole point of the comment above is to say, "yes I think homophobia is a sin but it doesn't matter to you and you don't believe it either. And it shouldn't automatically mean I hate you." Because guess what? a person is more then their sexual orientation and you know that's true. On top of that, it's not homophobia just because you disagree with the way the live. Dumb Christians automatically hate gays and that is just plain stupid sure, but there's a difference between not supporting and hating.
"They hate them, but I don't! I just think they deserve hell!" So you just hate them with extra steps. Besides, the original prints of the Bible never said homosexuality is a sin, it was a purposeful retextualizing- modern Christianity is as big of a sin as the people it hates if you take the time to read.
i think hey jane was about his parents perspective , leading to like him , feel like his mom was describing hey jane explaining why his farther wasnt there
when i first listened to judge judy and heard the letter i said out loud to myself "damn" and then tyler does in the track too its moments like this where he speaks kind of in the background in some of the tracks that make it feel that bit more personal imo but mostly when he speaks, like in rah tah tah, its silly which i dont need to explain why that makes perfect sense also after that part in judge judy its like the entire feel of the song changes it almost feels like a commemoration, or a very purposeful juxtaposition to the rest of the song as if to say, yeah, ive been explicit all song, but thats part of who she was. look at her, this multifaceted beautiful soul whose life was cut way too short its as if her death truly changed his perspective, where once she was a good time, now she's an experience
I think this is a pretty good analysis giving that chromakopia was published a few weeks ago. I really enjoy listening to the songs and feeling that sense of connection with Tyler and what the message of his songs are without him giving too much detail about it, I really like the transparency he has in this album. One of my fav songs in this album is probably Like Him because I can connect with people comparing you with a parent figure that wasnt really there for you. Overall i think this album is sick and its really brave of him to be so transparent with us, and with himself.
Forgot to mentions dogtooth as example with Tyler talking about relationship with his fans and audience, beside that great explaining about the album in your views, suck to see it doesn't that much attention
1) The title “Rah tah tah” is a reference to “Work It” by Missy Elliot “getting ready to be eaten out. A must listen. 2) The thematic voicemails from the mom are either a reference to or taken from (sorry but it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. I love this album but there are a hell of a lot of “references”) SZA’s first album “Ctrl.” A must listen. 3) please NEVER apologize for bringing up Kendrick when talking about literally any LA rapper. He speaks to us in a way that anyone born anywhere else can understand.
#3 is simply not true. You're a fan of Kendrick and you find his music relatable. Let's leave it at that. There is a trend now to overpraise and ascribe things to him that he has not earned and it's weird.
I love his honesty, its a shame he gets critizied for it, truth is always questioned and pulling him apart just to build him up as how others see him is fucked up, stop with the bullshit and let this artist do his thing,
People passively listen to new albums??? If it’s somebody I fw, I’ll be sitting in my room alone all weekend listening to it on repeat bc they deserve that.
I would love to also say Thought I Was Dead is more closer to being vulnerable than Stickys mask. Because as a black man him being open is another great display of vulnerability.
It’s a solid good album. It just doesn’t give me the urge to go back and listen to it. which is weird because I feel like I should really love this album everything checks off there’s just something that’s not sticking for me. Still very good album.

"They hate them, but I don't! I just think they deserve hell!" So you just hate them with extra steps. Besides, the original prints of the Bible never said homosexuality is a sin, it was a purposeful retextualizing- modern Christianity is as big of a sin as the people it hates if you take the time to read.
i think hey jane was about his parents perspective , leading to like him , feel like his mom was describing hey jane explaining why his farther wasnt there
when i first listened to judge judy and heard the letter i said out loud to myself "damn" and then tyler does in the track too
its moments like this where he speaks kind of in the background in some of the tracks that make it feel that bit more personal imo
but mostly when he speaks, like in rah tah tah, its silly which i dont need to explain why that makes perfect sense
also after that part in judge judy its like the entire feel of the song changes
it almost feels like a commemoration, or a very purposeful juxtaposition to the rest of the song as if to say, yeah, ive been explicit all song, but thats part of who she was. look at her, this multifaceted beautiful soul whose life was cut way too short
its as if her death truly changed his perspective, where once she was a good time, now she's an experience
I normally find it hard to watch a entire documentary, but I enjoyed this 👌🏾
love this video. subscribed.
Keep em coming!!
Overall i think this album is sick and its really brave of him to be so transparent with us, and with himself.
great fuckin job on this tear down, dude. thank you for the amazing video.
Thank you!!🙏
Holy shit, definitely an underrated video. There’s no way this barely has 31 likes at the time I’m watching
Great video!!!
I feel like Sticky is either the more hated or most loved song in the album lol
This analysis is really good, thanks for posting this. I made a video about a reddit theory i saw that i really fw if you like that kinda thing
we need a album of just him himself and not alter egos just him
I love his honesty, its a shame he gets critizied for it, truth is always questioned and pulling him apart just to build him up as how others see him is fucked up, stop with the bullshit and let this artist do his thing,
This story touched my heart so profoundly! ❤️🙌🏾💪🏾🎵
this analysis made me appreciate the album 100 times more
Thank you!!🙏🙏
THE DOG😭

30:03 Sounds like kanye sampled this for blood on the leaves as well very interesting
When you really listen to i killed you you realize he's talking about hair

PLEASE WE NEED A BREAKDOWN FROM FLOWER BOY TO CMIFYGL
19:04 reminds me of Nostalgic, Ultra
This album is a masterpiece ❤
It's not mt favorite album but i think it's Tyler's best album. He's outdone himself again imo, or maybe I'm just a tyler glazer lol
Nailed this
Like him might be his best song
OOMMMGGGG TYYLLEEERRRRRRR
So this song was released on my birthday, ok
I thought that last verse on “take your mask off” was about Kanye 😅. Dang, I was off base
52:21 hahaha that got me lol 😂😂
Oh your analysis makes so much more sense when I heated judge Judy I thought it was about suicide 😅
I love tomorrow I worry about getting older too
8:35 or those women 🤓
It’s a solid good album. It just doesn’t give me the urge to go back and listen to it. which is weird because I feel like I should really love this album everything checks off there’s just something that’s not sticking for me. Still very good album.
Or those women 🤓☝️
THE BASTARD ALBUM COVER SCARES THE FUCK OUT OF ME
Wow The Mask
