This is a Really Good example of how things were Built/Made A LOT BETTER back then than they are Now, including vacuum cleaners and Carpet Cleaners. I know this, because My Moms Original Hoover SteamVac Supreme from 1993-1995 LASTED A LOT LONGER than my 2012 SteamVac SpinScrub that I got at Walmart that ONLY Lasted a year, but thankfully the warranty on it was still good.
Things are still made well, you just can't get them at Walmart unfortunately. There's an interesting documentary about how Walmart approaches manufacturer's with certain parameters (price) that they need to meet, which ends up cheapening the components used. Walmart is certainly not the only one, but they played a big role in bringing down the cost and quality of consumer goods. Bissell makes a good extractor for home use, the Bissell Big Green. It's just like the machine that some stores have as rental units, it cleans better than the Hoover machines as well. It is amazing that we live in a time when we can drive five minutes away and buy machines that used to cost thousands and be reserved for commercial use like carpet extractors for only 100 bucks, but there is a trade off in that convenience.
I have one that I bought in 2013 and the handle seems to not work, only the clean surge will work and now it won’t suck the water back up from carpet. I’m on here seeing if I can fix it or if I need to get a new one.
So glad that you do a rinse. I am not saying my Bissell ProHeat from 2007, don't know the model number is better, I do like it has the rinse option by turning a dial as I always rinse. People don't realize that leaving in soap attracts dirt.
I’m sure there’s better machines out there but these are just a great classic design and they work good enough to get the job done! My Hoover steam vac has a leak in the solution tank now! Can’t figure out where it’s leaking from but it’s only when I pull the trigger. I need to take it apart and see if I can replace the lines or something. Luckily the dirty water tank doesn’t leak or I’d have a bigger mess. So I just use it for extracting right now. Last time I needed to clean a stain I just sprayed it with a pump sprayer first lol. It did the job.
My mom has one of these and I’ve used an older version we used to have. I think they do okay at best. I’d say the bissel pro heat big boy is better, and the rainbow aqua mate is even better. I think the rainbow needs more suction for better extraction. Last weekend I got my Kirby shampooer system and it’s amazing. It has restored my carpet back to like new conditions. I’m going for the 2nd pass with the Kirby this weekend and we’ll see how it looks after that.
A carpet extractor is invaluable if you have a home with pets, kids, or both. We have a 6 year old calico cat and a 13 year old Pomeranian dog. Our dog, though we love her, is certainly showing signs of age. She pees on the carpet at least once a day, and that’s with letting her out about 3-4 times a day and once at night. Shes just at that age. And our cat does just tend to bring up the occasional hairball. We do own a spot cleaner, but we don’t always immediately find the spot before it dries. And with our color of carpet, when the urine stain dries it’s almost invisible. Our carpet extractor gets all the stains we don’t get to in time. We spot clean when necessary, but I extract every 3 months. The water is usually dirtier than I’d like to admit. But our extractor has become a tool that’s essential in our household.
I got one of these on Craigslist a little more then 6 months ago for $100 and it's great the dry time is just as quick as the kirby (about 3 hours for my carpet) and the hose works great on the steps and fabric furniture
If I'm not mistaken I'm the one that got you to do the hot water rinsing after the washing. Always always always rinse out remaining soap you put down.
Keep this one even after it dies, just for the memories! Besides Rug Doctor, Hoovers are the kings of carpet steamer reliability (at least in terms of their "classic" platform like this Steamvac and even the newer Turbo Scrub), so once you service the motor it should keep going for at least a few more years.
I have that same machine - possibly a slightly different year - and it is still going strong although the hand attachment is not working. I need to delve into that. I still love it, though.
Appreciate the videos on this product. Reason for my comment is I have a new, yes never used, in the unopened box Steamvac Widepath LS - model number F6024-960. For whatever reason my mother purchased but never opened the box for this cleaner. I have it now and have no idea what it’s worth. Do you have any guidance for me as to what that might be or any other thoughts as to whether it’s much better than similar more current models available today. Thanks
It's worth whatever someone will pay for a new in box old stock machine. Which wouldn't be much. You can attempt selling it on eBay I suppose and see what happens. And yes, it's better than most stuff you can buy today, provided it works properly.
Oh cool. When that Hoover dies, are you still considering about replacing it with another machine or have you thought about upgrading it to another motor?
i perfer bissell because great suction and does great power and get the proheat 2x revolution pet pro because it has clean shot and tools look at proheat 2x revolution pet pro videos and other bissell proheat and 2x 12 amp motors tell me if you are getting a bissell proheat 2x revolution pet pro
If you watch Mini Meet #9, you'll clearly see that the Bissell ProHeat 2X does not have enough suction to pull up most of the water it put down. It has a weak 7 Amp motor. My 20 year old Hoover clobbered it with additional water extraction.

It’s amazing how older Hoover’s still work.
That’s because they were Made in America and they were made Better back then than they are made Nowadays.
Obviously America made products last longer than China made.

Good luck finding the leak. 👍

My eyes! Oh, my eyes! Those lights! I enjoyed that, sunglasses helped. Riveted as usual. BTW you missed a spot...
Which one? 😂

Hi vaclab congrats on your Hoover steamvac widepath that is the best carpet cleaner ever 👍

I would definitely lube the motor bearings. If it ever stops working, it could be the carbon brushes, or something with the on/off switch.
I have that same machine - possibly a slightly different year - and it is still going strong although the hand attachment is not working. I need to delve into that. I still love it, though.
Great video dude...your lighting and camera imaging was also very good. Thanks.
If this ever dies, do a motor rebuild/swap

Dude I had mine for 20 years and it just died on me today. I understand Hoover doesn't make this model type anymore.
Yeah, it's long gone.
This thing is built like a reliable Toyota vehicle.
I hope you know where to get parts to keep that vintage machine going because i looked at 3 sources and parts are NLA.
Get bissell proheat 2x 8920 or proheat 2x select 9400
When you first bought that Hoover, what vacuum were you using or had at the time?
I was using the 1980 Electrolux Olympia One.
Oh cool. When that Hoover dies, are you still considering about replacing it with another machine or have you thought about upgrading it to another motor?
@@panasonicvac4036 I'll probably replace it, but it also might last forever. 😂
dude you kinda vaguely look like Al Gore.
That would be a first. 😂

My mom use to have a Hoover streem vac
My moms feast one was a 2008 but my mom has to
