You're 100% right about the "bitch" thing. At first I was like, damn this girl is such a mean girl from the "hairdresser reacts" video. Then after watching more videos and seeing what you're about I'm like, nah she's just truthful. Like you've said before, you don't mince your words and you say it how it is because you're passionate about your career and you're damn good at it. I'm a guy so most of the actual hair stuff doesn't really relate to me (though hair care and routine and products is super useful), but actually listening to what you have to say and your personality throughout videos really draws people in and makes them like the content. Keep doing what you're doing girl!
I agree with what you said about trade school. I have a master's degree in English but if I could go back in time, I'd try to go into the beauty industry. Being a skilled worker in a trade IS a type of intelligence, equal to "academic" intelligence. It's a shame that our society has negative perceptions about those who choose the vocational route over the university route.
I've been contemplating going to beauty school for awhile now, and this video just gave me so much more courage. Like you said, I grew up "smart" and everybody around me has high expectations and think its waste. I helped one of my friends study for the state board exam, and that thing is HARD. I was shocked at how much anatomy and physiology cosmetologist have to know. You have to be smart to be a cosmetologist.
In NY we only need 1000 hours, I didn't know California required more. I have always been fascinated by the science of hair and skin as well. My family actually tried to discourage me from becoming a hair stylist lol Back then people definitely didn't think it was a promising career and there weren't many celebrity stylists as there are now. I don't see it as a trade but as an art and architecture. Don't engage the negative people, they are simply jealous of your talent and beauty :-)

This video means a lot to me. I've been seriously considering cosmotology school, but my family always wanted me to go to a University and study medicine or become a writer. My passion is writing, but it never took off for me, and I just couldn't get through school because of my anxiety although I LOVE to learn. But as I've aged I've realized I have other passions, such as makeup and hair. It makes me feel good about myself! I absolutely LOVE practicing makeup techniques and trying different hair colors!! (although my hair is currently taking a 2 year break lol) Thank you for this pep talk. I feel like this is definitely the career for me.
There’s people that went to school n debt and still can’t find a job for what they went to school for so when people talk down on trade schools it’s kinda dumb n rude and people that don’t get u or like it’s because u tell the truth n people hate the truth lol I’m the same being truthful is helping people more then being fake n lied to.

In Ireland we don't have to do any amount of hours, we have to do 360 hours of work experience in college. yes college. i went to a college for 'beauty school'. We are meant to go on to work for someone and mirror them and learn more, for two years and then you are 'qualified'. so i did level 3 hairdressing for 3 years and then two years in college, just finished in June, i am now qualified in a level 6 senior trade in hairdressing and barbering, level 3 in eye treatments, level 3 in nail tec, level 6 makeup artist and i could not get a job to save my life so i decided to work somewhere shitty for a few months save up every penny and just four weeks ago i set up my own salon. && im flying it, its amazing and busy its my dream come true, and i do day courses to up my skills with better hairdressers and in a privet beauty school. I love it here in my own salon and im so happy. but i could do that because we don't need a licence for hair here, there is no laws or regulations so anyone can set up a salon here.
This was in my recommended videos and it reminded me that last year is when I found your channel through this specific video. I've always loved hair & makeup, but in high school I had the same view on hairdressers and the stigma that comes with the industry. So by the time I was 22 and trying to figure out my life is when my mom suggested beauty school while I was in the middle of retouching her roots. She talked me into it and I began searching for videos of people talking about their experiences at beauty school and found this video. Your channel was definitely a big motivator for me when I finally decided to sign up for school. Now I'm a little over halfway through beauty school and I graduate in February of 2019. I can't imagine myself being in any other industry than the beauty industry and I just wanted to thank you for making this video or else I might not have signed up for beauty school.

We got our licenses within 1 month of one another (I went into men’s hair and special effects- I don’t know how you colorists get so wild with what you do- props) BUT the dollhead flew on the girl next to me with my state board and she was freaking out- legit about to cry.... so I picked up her dollhead, sanitized my hands, and went on my merry way. I really love how you encourage the trades and less "academic" courses. So many people judge or are judged on their degree or what job they have. At the end of the day we should all strive to be happy in our work and to push ourselves to do the best we can in our work. I found this video super interesting thank you so much. I don’t want to go to beauty school, I am trained as a nurse, but I have always found it fascinating and it’s awesome to get the inside scoop of what goes on inside beauty school. While I trained as a nurse, it was quite similar. We touched upon technique etc, but on the whole, it was basically making sure we understood the human body, understood how to not kill patients, and how to work within the law. The actual nitty gritty of working with patients, finding a good technique and being an actual nurse, was all once I had my license and was working. Luckily, I was able to shadow an awesome bunch of people while I began my first job as a registered nurse. Side note, I’m a new subscriber and I love your content.
This video help me so much I am also a licensed cosmetologist and the way I went to school and state board was a little different. But anyways I am working in a salon,great clips, and it’s rough for me. I’m not the strongest at clipper cutting and the situation I’m in right now has me questioning some things. I don’t know how to handle it, but this video just gave me some clarity. So thank you. You are my inspiration.

This!! I went to college and now make less than I did at my retail job 😭. Not only that but I work in social services trying to help out at risk youth figure out career paths, and I see all these trades that made more $ right off the bat. Thank god i don't have student loans but damn! Traditional College for sure is not for everyone, and you can be so SO successful without it

I'm not motivated or happy at the moment with schooling and stuff and it sucks to be honest. What advice do you have at being bomb at cutting hair ✂︎ I did cosmetology through my community college as well and I can give every grandma on the planet a popin perm and short cut 👵🏽💖 but I hardly ever touched long hair unless it was a simple touch up im currently assisting the owner of a salon in my town he's always booked but I feel like im learning more on formulation and basic highlights since he's kind of old school 🤷🏼♀️

I just started cosmetology at my local “community college” which here in Florida is called Palm Beach State College which is paid for by financial aid so I don’t have to pay out of pocket, here it’s 1200 hours and it’s broken up into 10 sections.

Both my older sisters are in medical/science school I’ve been thinking of cosmetology but I have been feeling like people would think I’m not smart enough to go to “regular college” like my sisters thank you for telling me it doesn’t matter if people think you aren’t smart enough. You are smart enough.

I had that same initial thought about it being simple and was nervous about being underestimated by my peers, but what a surprise. I found this video super interesting thank you so much. I don’t want to go to beauty school, I am trained as a nurse, but I have always found it fascinating and it’s awesome to get the inside scoop of what goes on inside beauty school. While I trained as a nurse, it was quite similar. We touched upon technique etc, but on the whole, it was basically making sure we understood the human body, understood how to not kill patients, and how to work within the law. The actual nitty gritty of working with patients, finding a good technique and being an actual nurse, was all once I had my license and was working. Luckily, I was able to shadow an awesome bunch of people while I began my first job as a registered nurse. Side note, I’m a new subscriber and I love your content.

This video help me so much I am also a licensed cosmetologist and the way I went to school and state board was a little different. But anyways I am working in a salon,great clips, and it’s rough for me. I’m not the strongest at clipper cutting and the situation I’m in right now has me questioning some things. I don’t know how to handle it, but this video just gave me some clarity. So thank you. You are my inspiration.

This!! I went to college and now make less than I did at my retail job 😭. Not only that but I work in social services trying to help out at risk youth figure out career paths, and I see all these trades that made more $ right off the bat. Thank god i don't have student loans but damn! Traditional College for sure is not for everyone, and you can be so SO successful without it
I have no idea if you will see this comment or not but your video really helped me a lot! I'm suppose to be going into my 3rd year of community college and I didn't go at all. I'm not motivated or happy at the moment with schooling and stuff and it sucks to be honest. My friends always tell me how I really have a talent for hair and makeup and I have been thinking about beauty school since I was 16. What advice do you have at being bomb at cutting hair ✂︎ I did cosmetology through my community college as well and I can give every grandma on the planet a popin perm and short cut 👵🏽💖 but I hardly ever touched long hair unless it was a simple touch up im currently assisting the owner of a salon in my town he's always booked but I feel like im learning more on formulation and basic highlights since he's kind of old school 🤷🏼♀️

I just started cosmetology at my local “community college” which here in Florida is called Palm Beach State College which is paid for by financial aid so I don’t have to pay out of pocket, here it’s 1200 hours and it’s broken up into 10 sections.

Both my older sisters are in medical/science school I’ve been thinking of cosmetology but I have been feeling like people would think I’m not smart enough to go to “regular college” like my sisters thank you for telling me it doesn’t matter if people think you aren’t smart enough.
