Full Naim Audio System, Curated with the BEST Components!

  • We did all the work so you can purchase a full system in one swoop and start to enjoy it. No researching, piecing together, or wondering if the stuff will marry well.
    This is one of our favorite brands mostly because of its design simplicity, execution, and sonics. It also looks gorgeous as a system.
    We hand selected our favorite Naim components from the last 20 years in the classic olive series including all the special Naim proprietary cables, connectors, power supplies, remotes etc. Then we set them all up in the best rack made by any audio manufacturer (also Naim).
    We didn't settle for a single amplifier, no sir! We went all out with a tri-amped active system that features one amplifier dedicated to each driver, all driven by the purpose built Naim SNAXO 3-6N active crossover.
    The speakers are top of the line Naim NBL models with active inputs. We installed new tweeters to ensure another 30 years of stellar performance.
    For sources we added a CD player and a super rare Tuner that we sourced from the other side of the world. If you'd like a matching turntable (perhaps a custom Linn LP12) let us know.
    The preamp and crossover are powered by no less than THREE total outboard power supplies.

    Wonderful overview.. Naim kit is utterly reliable. My NAP 140 stopped delivering out of the right channel, so I took it to my NAIM dealer and when I told them about the issue - you should have seen the expression on their faces - they said "We've been equipping customers with Naim gear for over 25 years, and you are the only customer to ever report a failure, but we'll fire her up and leave her running for 48 hours." They called me back and said "She's been singing beautifully from the first note. Bring your interconnects in when you pick it up, she'll still be singing when you arrive." They checked my interconnects and said "Ahh... a slightly bent pin on the 32.5 - 140 DIN interconnect, that's all, easy, no problem, give us 2 minutes."
    Twenty years later, my Naim is still singing beautifully. As the guy in the shop said "Naim gear just doesn't go wrong."

      They still do. Just check out some of their high end amps (it's all high end, just some is extremely high end, with high end prices to match). Get a demo of the NAC S1 preamplifier and NAP S1 mono power amplifiers etc.

    Hi ! and thanks for this very enjoyable video SkyFi. I am in the UK and for about 15 years now have loved owning the 'chrome bumper '32.5 pre-amp and the matching NAP 250 power amp and Hi-Cap power supply. Its good to hear you express very well what I love about this stuff - it's understated simplicity & elegance. I play records through it using a Garrard 401 and one of those SME 3009 tonearms that we both like so much ! Solid and built to last and I love what it does to the 'pace - rhythm - and timing' of the music. I cannot keep still when this stuff is working well !

      Well, my CD5 is 20 years and a month old, and still works perfectly. My 1986 Hicap has been serviced, as have my 72/180 amps. Into a nice pair of Tannoy DC2000s I boot boxed, mint for £15 15 years ago. Good investment!!!

    H. The speaker is now as NBL nestled box loudspeaker. It's derived from the highs and minds section are nestled within the whole speaker cabinet. The CD player is most probably the CDX. It is upgradable through en external dedicated power supply known as the XPS. There is a biggish black plug behind. Remove that and plug the XPS in, you'll get a HUGE improvement on the sound. Comments are from Singapore. Cheers!

    I've owned a Naim 250 amp, 32.5 preamp and HiCap for years (with an LP12, naturally, and a Museatex CD player, and ProAc speakers). I used to work for a Linn/Naim dealer and was quite enamored with the then-new SBL speakers, which had the most realistic bass reproduction of anything I'd heard at the time ( not the "deepest", nor the most furniture rattling, but punchy and dynamic, and tunefull). I wish I had bought a pair on salesmans' accommodations......

      I had naim SBL and 135 monoblocks/72 high cap - Linn LP12 Ittok/Karma and Lingo.. cables etc.. in a basement that was perfect for them... The presentation of that system - i have never heard exactly equalled or duplicated since. The floor felt like it would move... Madonna Vogue from the Dick Tracy recording - the original - was jaw dropping.

    NBL stands for Nested Box Loudspeaker. The Tweeter and Midrange mounting screws have very specific torque settings. They need to be set on a yearly basis or they will not sound good. The CDX uses a heavily modified transport/mech and has long since been discontinued...only the laser can be replaced. Buyers should be aware of the limited serviceability of this player.

  • @acme181169
    @acme181169 3 года назад +3

    You'll need to add a supercap to the xover and then the second hicap can be used for the 82.

  • @ilantamir5302
    @ilantamir5302 3 года назад +10

    Some corrections are in place:
    NBL stands for "Nested Box Loudspeaker", wherein a smaller box houses the midrange and tweeter which are mounted onto its baffle via bespoke suspension systems optimized for each unit.
    Design aims to decouple the drive units from any part of the speaker's fraim and main box.
    Tweeter is a variant of Scanspeak's D2010.
    Midrange driver is an outsourced unit, substantially customized in Salisbury and fitted with a black anodised Aluminum "Phase Plug", doubling as a heat sink for the driver's coil.
    Twin 8" bass drivers with extended coils and suitably sized "Phase Plug" are manufactured entirely in house and are mounted facing away from each other (L&R) in a small box (in a NON ISOBARIK configuration). The small twin bass driver box is acoustically coupled to the main speaker box while being supported via a suspension system onto the lower part of a cast alloy frame into which go the 4 adjustable steel spikes.

    This is a mid tier Naim system from the era. The 82 preamp could be upgraded with up to 2 HiCaps or a further upgraded by using a Supercap. The top tier pre (Nac 52, MUST be powered by the Supercap). The small power supply with the 82 is called a NAPSC and merely powers the lights and remote control powered volume and balance controls.
    The CD player (CDX) could also be upgraded with the Hicap(s). This sat below the CDS1 and then superceded by the CDS2. These required their own power supplies (CDPS and XPS respectively).
    The top tier system with dual mono power amps (135) was a significant upgrade from an already superb system and is still world class even today.
    Some users even went active and had the legendary '6 pack' using 6 135 mono power amps.

    NBL for Nested Box Loudspeaker.
    I have had SBLs in the past and still have a pair of IBLs.
    Separate Box Loudspeaker
    Integrated Box Loudspeaker.

      Epos ES14 with just a series capacitor between woofer/tweeter - yup, less is more. Designed by Robin Marshall in the UK, these speakers are to this day giant killers. The transparency is near-electrostatic for a dynamic speaker. The drive units were designed in-house to have a natural roll off from the bass/mid driver to the tweeter with just the series capacitor between the units so the tweeter doesn't 'see' 70 watts of Marcus Miller doing his thing on his Fender Jazz bass guitar.
      Those 70 watts came from the reference amps that Robin used in the developement of the Epos ES14 loudspeakers, those amps being a Naim NAC 32.5, Hi Cap, NAP 250. Brings new meaning to the definition 'Synergy'.
