  • Last month while hanging out with family at home, I got the notification from a local news agency about an amber alert that had just been issued. About 20 minutes later, is when I got the Emergency Alert Notification on my iPhone and knew it was imminent to be broadcasted over my weather radios. I have two running weather radios at home, at which point in the past I've had nearly 7 of them. I rushed quickly to get my camera and TV ready so I could catch it. Turns out, I started rolling just in time, as the SAME headers dropped just a few thousand milliseconds later. What the failure of this message was that it exceeded the two minute limit that the Emergency Alert System gives for their messages. There are no exceptions to it. After two minutes, what's left will be cut off along with the EOM header. Only an Emergency Action Notification can exceed it, and the only way to end it, is with an Emergency Action Termination. For those who don't already know. But that's what happened here. The TV broadcast shortened it a little bit, but still exceeded the two minute limit. The station you are listening to is NOAA Weather Radio WWG61 in Stanton, KY broadcasting on a frequency of 162.550 MHz. The messages originate from the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY; serving the Morehead listening area in Kentucky.
