Frankfort, KY - Juniper Hills Park - Thunderbolt 1000T Siren Test 6-3-2019

Earlier this week, I traveled to Franklin County, KY to once again film, the Juniper Hills Park Thunderbolt 1000T. Which you can tell is still going strong 1 year later. The reason I've returned to re-record this siren was because I lost the original footage I took of last year's test. I was running very late this time, and only had less than 5 minutes to prep the main camera & tripod. As a result, I did not zoom in on the horn, but the resulted footage was to my most satisfaction. In addition, I had a second hand held camera which I used for underneath & blower footage. I also had the greatest privilege meeting fellow siren enthusiasts 4j25 & Bluegrass Sirens off camera, who were also there filming the siren far behind me and the main camera. According to them, this is most likely the last active thunderbolt in the county. Since Franklin County emergency management installed new Federal 508's about 3 years ago, all Thunderbolts, as well as all the other old sirens have been laid up for dead. They will not be disconnected, just left to run without any maintenance whatsoever until they conk out.

I have a question. What kinds of Cameras do most of siren enthusiasts use? I want to look for one that does good quality videos at least so I can record some sirens in the future. Hopefully next month.

So as of now both old and new sirens run in Alert together until the old ones stop working for good

Gary Hisgun That’s Correct. But Frankfort also does 1 minute Attack for Tornado Warnings.
