OMG, students LOVE having their names in word problems!!! When they create their own word problems, they use their own names and their friends' names as well. I love hearing their creations and it gives me light as to who their close friends are currently.

I too teach at a title 1 school. We try to create a “home” environment. Lots of love is given to them. Watching how a simple praise or high five changes their mindset is heart warming.

My studentsvare not used to work in groups and the noise level tends to be too high. I don't blame them because nobody has taught them how to do it but I'm definately trying the "waterfall" hack. Thank you lovely soul!

The teacher I volunteer for uses the callback "tootsie roll, lollipop" and the kids say "we were talking, now we stop" 😁

Love your videos and WBT. Our favorite call and response: (to the tune of Clementine) "Oh, my darlings'" "Yes, my teacher." Our district is Title 1, so yes, we are on stage all day.

I am so glad I am not the only person who does accents and funny voices to keep my kinders engaged. I love doing that or I do like some crazy movement to get their attention. We are a very curriculum based kinder class but I always try and make it fun or at least funny. Love the waterfall call and response will start using that tomorrow.

I really enjoyed your tips in this video! Your last tip about incorporating the students' names is genius. I have a pretty unique name. To this day, any time I hear my name being said (pronounced correctly of course) I instantly feel special. I will definitely be using these tips when I am finished with my degree! Thank you!

I used to say, "Ready, Freddy, Spaghetti?" and they responded "Ready!" but if they were not ready they would respond, "Not Yetty." and that was a signal to me to give more time.

Look up Collaborative Problem Solving. It's a great tool for any agency or school. I think the children that struggle with school are lacking in skill not motivation. Incentives, to me, are a bit outdated. I compare it to someone giving me a million dollars if I hit a home run off of Justin Verlander. No matter the incentive it isn't going to happen. Achievable goals, skill building, well trained staff and having the child involved in his or her process is the key to success.
