    People always think ex-racers as going fast in a forward motion without realising that can stop just as quick 😂 Been there and got the bruises! You're doing fab Lucy 🧡

    I’d give that fall a 9/10, as not too many riders start falling to one side then rolls/bounces off the other side of their horse’s neck & semi-gracefully , sticks a landing on their feet essentially & facing backwards, like towards a cheering crowd!!😂😂
    Bravo Lucy!!👏🙌
    But seriously, I’m glad you’re ok & that Ember stopped suddenly in Tall grass & he’s ok + not as easily spooked now as he had been when this happened.

    I had an x-racer-small, electrified, like Ember. Sweet temperament, but worried about what was going to happen when I got on.
    First two years he was inverted whenever I rode, like Ember. Eventually tried doing some ground work. I taught him to lower his head with a cue. His whole body changed after that. Racers just don’t know how to relax or to go in a more rounded frame. When their eyes and head go up, they are like riding a giraffe.
    It takes a while for them to learn that relaxing is OK. But before he could relax, he had to literally be taught to lower his head by doing groundwork. He just didn’t understand how to do that.

    Don’t forget your back protector next time !! He just looks really uncomfortable with a contact I would do more flatwork and not worry about jumping until he is soft and going forward off your leg …. I know you’re keen to jump but I would go back to basics … best of luck as he doesn’t look easy x

    • @footluceeventing
      @footluceeventing  Год назад +1

      His flat work is actually very nice, if you watch my last vlog for example, you’ll see that he warms up very nicely in the arena. This outdoor space is very different for him, but once he understands the task in hand he’s fine. At some stage, yes perhaps I will take a contact when warming him up, if he’s ready for it. Flatwork is very different to jumping, he’s done over a year and a half of it 😊 Ps I had my body protector on under my jacket 🧥 Thanks for watching!

    It must be so hard dealing with a horse who gets so excited that his brain shuts down and this results in napping. I guiltily confess that if he were my horse, I'd be trying a calming powder in his feed (says the woman who uses a calming powder on her excitable behemoth. I'm short and he's more than bit of a lunatic without his calming powder.)

    • @footluceeventing

He’s also on a calmer every day, I think it’s just a time and experience thing! Thanks for watching 🙏

    Hi Lucy; enjoy your videos! Just a bit of a suggestion for Ember - because he’s holding his head so high - he’s avoiding contact with you - a nice running martingale would be a great training aid for him - it would assist you and definitely him in the importance of keeping contact with you and not to “run the fences…” Just a suggestion - enjoy your videos very much ❤

  • @ForceFreeTrainergirl06
    @ForceFreeTrainergirl06 Год назад +4

    Is it possible that at the end of the day, Ember just isn't suitable for cross country? Is it that he's excited, or is it that he doesn't like it? The planting and napping would suggest that he maybe doesn't enjoy it. What is the reason you think he plants and naps?

    • @footluceeventing
      @footluceeventing  Год назад +3

      Quite possibly, but at this stage we’re still very much near the start of his training, and if he didn’t want to do it altogether, he really wouldn’t. I’m using 0 force, I don’t carry a whip, I’m not yanking on his mouth, he just has a lack of understanding at the moment about what it’s about. He used to do the same with show jumping, now he absolutely loves it! I think a little more time and patience is needed, which I can give him 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏
