Dude, you used grid infill on a big print, you are a brave man. (for real tough, use gyroid, it doesn't cross over itself, it's safer)
but gyroid uses a fuck more filament no?
@@riotaken Gyroid is one of the strongest infills in terms of strength to weight ratio, so no not more filament but less.

@@kshepherd2005I don't know much about 3d printing but doesn't filament have to be in like a wire shape in order for it to be used
@@vintage-radioThere's shredders and filament extruders you can buy but like, it's all by nature easily recyclable plastic. The only big cost is the need to reprocess it.
@@kshepherd2005 recycling filament is definitely possible but due to a range of reasons (mostly moisture build up) recycled filament is not as high quality as the original stuff, and leads to messier prints.
that being said I'm pro recycling purged filament. throwing out purged colours on a print like this is just criminally bad for the environment

Multicolor printing seems so wasteful. I hope you have a good way of recycling all that purged filament.
It's both wasteful and stupid. Nobody with half a brain would consider that a quality product. Every 3D printed item that is worth anything requires post processing. Like congratulations you have a colorful tiger with a bunch of layer lines made out of plastic. Why not buy a stuffed animal or any other number of tigers instead of wasting 48 hours and multiple rolls of filament on hot garbage?

I don't understand why everyone uses these insane infills on these static objects it's the dumbest thing in the printing community. 48 hours. What a shame that people like this have all the money.
...I managed to print it in around 20h scaled up to be maxing out my X1Cs print volume. Came out like a dream, very sturdy too. Crazy how much time you can save or loose with just a few settings.....
There had been days where Ive spent more time optimizing a print then it actually took to print😂
But it did eventually help me to learn how to save a good chunk of time and materil in those big prints...
For this one I spent over an hour playing with settings in Orca until I felt like I found a good balance, but it paid off!!

@@ligametis @ligametis for sure, but thats just how this technology works and the limitations of it. With PLA made from renewable sources and home recylcing of it becoming more and more convienient and affordable, I dont see tooo many issues in not spending a good chunk of more money and research into making a multi tool head working.
Especially if thats something you do maybe two times a year for those rare occasions something like an incredibly cute articulated 4 color print of your favourite animal shows up for a fiver which will fully utilize your all your fancy printers functions, which in itself is just pure entertainment to observe....
If I remember correctly, I ended up with about 700G of print and some 200g of waste. Thats pretty fair imo, especially considering Ive spent 0 time finetuning the amount it takes to clear a color and just went with auto calculated defaults in those regards.
If Id be using this feature seriously, I bet I could get the waste halved.
Still, compare throwing 200g corn starch made PLA into a landfill to whatever insane amount it takes to get something comparable produced in and sent all the way from china, made out of some likely not very sustainably sourced plastics.

@Wassermelonenbaum but 3d printed items are still lower quality than anything from a factory or handmade. And it is still just plastic. I, personally, don't think it is worthwhile to print such items. I only use printer for practical, mechanical parts that are not being sold and choose the cheapest single color filament.
@@ligametis for my intented usecase the quality is more then sufficient, exceeded my expectations even.
I use my X1C the same way too, to mostly print highly functional parts out of usually single materials and colors. And thats EXACTLY what I love about its ability to do something like this on occasion, without the need to make things more complicated and expensive.
Im using the AMS no matter what, this is not what I bought it for.
And with how much waste in form of failed/outdated protypes I personally end up with anyways, those 200g are almost peanuts😅😅😓
Combine that with this Tiger being impossible to traditionally manufacture like that, it being a small artists 3D work supported and availability within very very little time and no stress with transportation companies.... I think its amazing. Far from perfect and not what you should aim for when doing on the regular, but damn thats a powerful tool to have with no extra cost or effort in my case.
Oh and on a sidenote, the amount of material my X1Cs automatic and quite reliable calibration saved me by now is immense compared to all the previously needed test prints that are 100% wasted material all the time but required to get cheap chinese machines working at all (not to talk of their more often failed prints).
For that alone I dont mind wasting a bit material here and there anymore..... It already became MUCH more efficient
