    The mass teleportation incident or mass displacement event was Turning Point 1 in Mushoku Tensei, and saw characters including Rudeus, Eris, Ghislaine, Paul, Zenith, Sylphiette, Norn and Aisha teleported randomly around Mushoku Tensei's world. In this video I look at why the teleportation event mana calamity happened, which means looking as far ahead as the final chapter in the whole Jobless Reincarnation series! This video also answers the question of why was Rudeus Greyrat reincarnated in Mushoku Tensei in the first place, as well as exploring more about characters like Nanahoshi (Silent Seven Star), Orsted, and Perugius. As you might expect, this includes heavy Mushoku Tensei ending spoilers and explanations for two of the biggest mysteries in the series, so watch only if you're OK with that!

    I always liked the fact that Rudeus reincarnation was a coincidence. Getting summoned for some greater goal just wouldn't have fit with his personal goal of living a fulfilling life.

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  2 года назад +105

      Yeah, and if he hadn't had the freedom he had then things would have turned out differently too - like if he'd been growing up thinking he had to achieve a certain thing he would have focused his experiences on that and done different things. Like with Lugh in Assassin Aristocrat - if he didn't have the mission he was reincarnated for, he probably wouldn't have wanted to be an assassin again in this life and would have done totally different things, but for his story he has to have that goal forced on him. Rudeus doesn't have any external forces directing how he lives his life, until he gets a boss!

I hope the people who summon learn that summoned people don't really have magic and I assume can't learn other skills that are seemingly unique to this world that otherwise wouldn't be possible on earth and stop expecting them to be heros lol pretty dark fate there. It's a really cool concept and kinda like Re:Zero, it's extremely motivating without trying to be. It's very fluid and natural and it really makes you question yourself and your own outlook on life, even if you're not necessarily doing bad in life, but not striving to the goals you know you could push towards, for plenty of reasons. Shows like MHA, however, kinda throw stuff like that right out in your face and they don't try to find subtle ways about it. Both methods have their ups and downs. I just really appreciate the road less traveled that shows like this take and how much thought and effort it requires. I guess from my perspective it's a matter of "the beauty is in the simplicity" meeting "the devil is in the details", and Natalie somehow finds a way to make it all palatable for us to understand and develop our own opinions and thoughts.

      That's not the point.
      Orsted's relying heavily on memory because he can't leave a diary. But he only has to rely on himself keeping track of the details and making sure certain events line up.
      Rudeus' existence has thrown everything out of whack. Even so, certain events remain critical, and must be maintained. Orsted's memories are no longer reliable in this regard. He needs to write down what needs to happen, how Rudeus has changed the circumstances, and how they can be corrected.
      Of course there's always the more important reason to write a diary. "Today, a little girl rode my shoulders, pulled my hair and called me papa. It felt good to not hated."

      He is also kind of right. It explains one of Orsted’s main faults. He lives too far in the future (one that doesn’t exist now) that he loses sight of what matters in the moment. It actually manifests in a pretty big error on his part in the decisive battle. He kind of does belittle the present and pays very little heed towards the past experiences of others.
      Rudy helps anchor him and helps him build the resolve to trust more in the people he has now towards a loop of uncertainty….which is arguably a factor in the future narrative.

    • @caleb_artzs2533
      @caleb_artzs2533 2 года назад +1

      @Tooopper That can also imply Hitogami since Hitogami's ability is to see the future while forgetting the present. Hell Orsted is actually kinda friendly, he calls the people who help him his comrade, he felt indebted by Norn since she helped him in the previous loops. Perugius just have a petty hatred towards Orsted. It's kinda imply that Perugius hatred towards Orsted, was because Orsted knows things that Perugius doesn't.

    • @Tooopper

      @@caleb_artzs2533 He also purposefully omits the dying superd tribe to Rudy and Ruijerd despite their deep interest in finding it to…well….save time. Because of that, he loses an almost indispensable asset.
      Also in comparison to Rudy and the gang, his mercilessness towards Hitogami apostles could have resulted in Luke’s death since he’d rather air on the killing side of caution, despite Luke being important to Ariel and Luke’s ability to be reasoned with.
      He also would have killed Rudy mercilessly if it weren’t for Nanahoshi’s intervention, which would have costed him the greatest asset so far.
      He is friendly. He is amicable. He is even generous. A lot of his decisions (like the superd tribe) are informed by caution and failures after good honest attempts….but that’s exactly my point. He’s stuck viewing things too far ahead and sometimes fails to see what he has now and what’s important now. That’s why him pulling out his sword (which will harm in him in the future if he doesn’t compensate) against Alex saying that he wants to fight believing in his comrades’ ability to help him is a huge thematic moment. It’s him accepting a new future of unknowns and the role trusting wholeheartedly in the power of others plays in it.
      Perugius does hate him for being a know it all and referring to fate….but it’s also thematically an insult towards Orsted’s state of mind. Perugius’ work with Nanahoshi, despite not working in the end, his mindset and work is what allowed Nanahoshi to substantiate a theory that is crucial to understanding the time loops….but it’s also petty. Things can be multifaceted. That’s one of the themes in the story, to not view things myopically.

    One of the things I love about Rifugin’s use of time travel is that he puts Rudy in a position of uncertainty (same with Re:Zero). A lot of audience members default to apathy when it comes to time travel. That said, with MT, Rudy is not even sure if he’s involved in time travel plots since he’s not even a part of the world’s natural order. It keeps the story grounded despite all the wacky time shenanigans and thematically, it keeps Orsted grounded, which leads to a critical resolution for the timeline.
    In Re:Zero’s case, it’s hard to take the apathetic [keep trying til you win] take when you’re face to face with the mentally crushing consequences of that mindset. :P

But, while he may not have been summoned as a hero, while he may have been born with the ideals that a hero would hold, while he may not have started with the characteristics you would associate to a hero-figure, he did become one by the end of the series, and that's pretty damn cool. This is just a theory. Given that she was born during the last 20 years of orsted's loop, the slight deviations in the miko's life may be the result of his own tampering with the timeline. Since they both keep their memories, there's also the real possibility that orsted hadn't discovered the playback miko in all of his 100s of loops. I theorize the reason he doesn't run into her is because it's at this point in time, orsted is either fighting laplace or preparing to do so.
    Going further, the orsted we see has no idea akahito exist because miko sort of forcefully reset the current loop.
    Lastly, because rudy was born, we may never learn what orsted did that resulted in the summoning to begin with.

We see that the Miko doesn't know much about the world outside, and so was presumably very sheltered, so it would seem plausible that Orsted maybe didn't know about her - when she resets time by 24 hours he presumably would never know this had happened, so her activities could be kept secret. But by your theory, the loop (for the Miko) where Akihito was summoned is the same loop as the current loop (where she's reborn without powers) for Orsted, and in this one case it was her that forced the reset so everything that came later was forgotten by Orsted even if he did know about it. That makes a lot of sense.

    I love how different this Isekai is from other typical ones. The reader of course assumes every “big moment” that happens in the story is related to the main character Rudeus some how. We are thinking he must of been summoned but actually he is in this new world really by sheer luck or I guess a will to live. I do appreciate how Rudeus doesn’t waste his second chance at a new life. He could’ve easily fallen into bad habits. I mean he does sometimes at first but learns to control himself for the most part. Thanks for the video

      I think we're reading too much into that prophecy. Or not enough. "If you summon a hero, the kingdom will be saved," is not the same as "You must summon a hero who will save the kingdom." *NONE* of them was the hero who would save the kingdom. They were all just parts of the mechanism that would change the world in such a way that the kingdom could be saved. Akihito was the motivation to allow the Playback Miko to change the world, Rudeus and Nanahoshi and the time-space rift were the the changes the Playback Miko wrought that enacted that change. I hope the Playback Miko gets a good life this time, and that it's her last life, but that's not what the prophecy was about. The prophecy was about providing her the motivation to actually do something meaningful this time, rather than just living as a puppet of the kingdom which would be constitutionally incapable of motivating her to do anything out of the ordinary (for her) even if it knew it had to.
      And I can't help feeling like the Playback Miko is actually caught up in Orsted's time loop, and the only way she can actually escape is to have Orsted finally win. She's just somehow aware of having to re-live her life every time, probably because of her natural time manipulating gift. Which means that by summoning Rudeus, however inadvertently, she may have finally set the stage for her own escape from her hellish life.

    Also i love the fact how epilouge zero implies the terrible future of the asura kingdom if ariel does not become queen. A once dominant country that now needs to put their faith into the summoning of a hero to survive.
    Also for the time, orsted said this is the only loop with Rudeus, it should imply that his loop only affects the 6 sided world, on earth the time progresses normal. That means even if orsted loops again there is no rudeus on earth to reincarnate

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  2 года назад +3

      I don't know if it really implies anything about Earth's time - nobody tried to summon Akihito in any other loops so we don't know if that would have happened if they had. But since the Miko's wish was a one time thing she wouldn't have been able to open the rift more than once, because she's lost her powers after that, so we can never really know if it could have worked. It seems unlikely that things affecting time in the six-sided world would affect Earth too but that doesn't mean they couldn't be accessing Earth in the past or future in the first place, iykwim, so could possibly take the same Rudeus, Akihito and Nanahoshi from that point in time regardless.

    It's interesting how authors, who are friends, can influence each other's work. The authors of Reincarnated as a Slime, and So I'm a Spider are said to be friends as well. Though their stories are completely different, they both take on the challenge of characters reincarnated as monsters. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Lewis Carroll were friends as well, in a different Era of course, but they pushed each other, and the influence of their stories can be seen in most fantasy stories today. In fact, you could say that Alice in Wonderland was one of the first Isekai stories.

    The Mana Catastrophe:
    In short, and based on what I can remember anyway, was all a clusterfuck of coincidences that started in the future and rippled backwards in time bc of the Rewind Miko on top of Nanahoshi's own failed space-time transportation spell to try and go home.... The Nanahoshi thing was just a coincidence though.
    All of the Rewind Miko's efforts were to save Akihito, one of the other kids Rudy tried to save... who died later anyway... oof.
    On the plus side?
    Mushoku Tensei became a thing bc Rudy's past incarnation's soul was pulled in as a side effect of the whole thing...

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  2 года назад +7

      Nanahoshi's spell didn't really have anything to do with it, that just failed because the future takes priority over the past so she can't go back yet. But other than that yeah, it was more or less that. Took me 4k words to explain it though somehow haha!

      No, what I meant was just the timing of it all, not that it actually had anything to do with what happened.

    • @Rakkakaze

      I feel it's less a 'cluster of serendipity' and more 'time is relative.'
      All things being true.
      Summoning event similar to Ni no Kuni occurs (near death causing world sliding)
      [Come up with a reason why Akihito would be picked in that instant, this seems very isekai]
      Akihito is pulled in, that puts a great strain on the world.
      Things happen, now Nanahoshi is attempted to be pulled into the world, due to Akihito now existing in the timeline, the world pushes back on being #2.
      In 'earth' time this would be likely within the same instant due to proximity to Akihito. (Pretend a hole appeared where he was)
      As Nanahoshi is pulled in, a freshly loosened soul is there.
      Nanahoshi, being a 'body' gets blocked, the soul arriving with her ping pongs around and finds somewhere to land.
      This essentially solves the 'timing' issue of somehow 3 people arriving at wildly different times. The only coincidence would be the summoning happening at a time relative to Earth's, as 'Rudy' dies the first time. (basically 2 arrive at the gate at the same time, but only one gets in due to a lack of physical state)
      Potentially if he wasn't there, Nanahoshi would just be stuck on the boundary between worlds.

    This would also explain why her unsommoning attempt failed. The world itself was resisting the efforts to send her back just the same as it had initially been resisting the efforts to bring her over in the first place.

    With the sequel series what will be interesting is who will be involved. We know of some people that will still be alive but It seems to point to someone else not yet shown who it will revolve around, and with the different timelines and such many from the past could be brought back into it as well.
    It really has left a massive scope for what can happen, not something I was expecting when first getting into this series as the POV perspective of Rudeus story gives you the false idea that this story revolves around him. I Just found that really odd to be placed there regardless.

      I think Akihito will be the protagonist, Lara will probably be important too, being the savior and all (I think the person she leaves to go and find in the end of Redundancy will be Akihito), obviously Orsted, Perugius, Laplace when he gets reincarnated, other new gen characters like Norn and Ruijerd's daughter... Elinalise probably given that if she figures out what we know from Old Dragon's Tale she could help Orsted. I don't think anyone from the past who should be dead will be in it because this is so strongly suggested to be 'the final loop', and anyone sending themselves to the future would have to have already done it in some way (like the Dragon God sending Orsted to the future or Laplace having things in place for his own reincarnation). Plus I think characters like Rudeus and Eris will just be allowed to have finished their stories and died, rather than being brought back - it just wouldn't fit the meaning of their stories for them or any of the other human lifespan characters to be brought back iykwim...

      @@NatalieXHunter I haven't caught up on the WN but isn't half of Rudeus and in turn Eris life explained very little. Like it skips from their 30s till the end which I thought maybe is done on purpose to come back later for something but it could be just a way to move on to the main story, maybe I'm thinking into it too much lol.

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  2 года назад +5

      Yeah, I don't think that means they're coming back - they had proper endings, and especially given Rudeus' final interaction with Hitogami I think it would actually take something away from the point of his complete second life if he is made to come back. I think those characters were supposed to live their lives, die with no regrets, and leave everything in the hands of the future, thematically speaking, so it'd feel cheap if they actually didn't and pop up and fight in the final battle or something.

    It's been years since I read the WN, but I thought I remembered there being an additional element to the teleportation explanation - something along the lines of "all forces have an equal and opposite effect". Essentially the calamity was the "recoil" from the Miko's wish, if I'm remembering right.

    I hope when the sequel comes, we get to see Akihiko reading Rudeus and Nanahoshi's diary. Especially with Rudy being her sole link to Japan before his arrival. Wonder how she would describe him as, especially if he'd already met Lara and his other descendants.

    Man Rudy was the ultimate side character of the story of the world of mt. Not only was he just a guy caught in between the war between orsted and hitogami, he was also one of laplace’s backups as he was born with the laplace factor, and also he was caught in a summoning that had nothing to do with him since it was only coincidence that he was there, and ultimately spent his years preparing the world for a fight with demon god laplace and hitogami that he didn’t even live long enough to take part in. Damn

    We went through all that because of playback Miko in love with Akihito. It kinda remind me of another isekai anime, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. Akihito could very well become like Souma if things are done right. He can change the world without magic. In fact, Souma situation is also sort of a time loop where the Queen is basically a Miko. Anyway, love the lore and complicated world of Mushoku Tensei.
