My wife and I LOVE your videos and example. We live in Eastern WA State USA and love our life in the country. I wish you both and all your animals all the best! I sincerely respect your ingenuity, care and empathy for others (both Human and Animal). Let's have you both run to be our next President and Vice President - as you both are WAY better than the choice we currently have to make in November! LOL!!! All the Best!
I really hope you get good weather for your trip there is a very bad storm coming this weekend and my dad had to bring his boat in from anchor . I am really looking forward to seeing how you got on and flora too of course!
watching from the States. You should check into the Australian style saddles. They're comfortable and I felt quit balanced and secure on one, plus there's a belly strap. lots of straps and rings to attach
I'm as excited as you are about your trip . I hope you get a chance to film some of it . I'm sure you want to have a good relaxing time. so don't spend the whole trip filming hahaha . can't wait
I often am out for a week at a time on horse back checking fences and livestock on our property. May I recommend you familiarise your horse with sideline hobbles. This would save you have to take all that fencing gear.
I think that's the key - you use them often. I wouldn't be able to do that and I guess they'd just freak out on the once-in-a-year occasion that I get to go trekking. But I ought to look into them again..
a picket line and a heavy duty picket pin would pack down smaller(lighter too), just teach your lovelly ponies to be respectfull to it first! Also, if you were to go that route, I would also reccomend getting a clip on stock bell (cow bell) for her head colllar (halter) - Fellow Stock Packer + Rough country person
That's so cool I baught my horse to start endurance in Ireland but he was only turning 3 when I got him when he was 5 I spent the whole winter getting him fit for a 10km ride so had him out the night before the ride I went up to feed him at 7pm by 9pm when my husband got off the train he couldn't see him in the field when he called me I said he's there somewhere I still didn't panic because kids had let him out before but the gate was still locked he went to the bog before so I started the search rang the council who could have found him ..in the light if day I found the broken fence and tire marks of what looked like a box been backed in he had been bated after I fed him someone else had been going in after and moving his food but putting the bucket back they backed the box trough the wooden fence and loaded him up that was 3 years ago taken on his bday the same day I bought him we've never heard or seen him again so I won't buy another if I can't keep them safe on my own land pity because I have bog between kildare that could get me as far as athlone without crossing any huge roads and the curragh to ride on ...he'd be 8 now God nearly 9 next month so it's 4 years always taught he would be found his breeding has great racehorse so he shouldn't have been hard to find ...
We always hobble our horses over night when camping out...Cross country travel in this country, Australia, can take several weeks if you want and can spare the time...
and you have snakes and drought to worry about too. I'd love to try traveling in Australia one day but I don't think I could take the heat these days : - )
So far I've been able to rely on finding plenty of grass - they can graze all night if they want to. But I always take some dry food for them too as a treat.
This is great. I want to do a couple of nights in the Highlands early next summer (before all the midgies etc. So it isn't so uncomfortable!).) My sister has been taking the horse out on long treks on our own property (we were lucky to have been left a fair bit of woodland and over the last few years she has laid out trekking paths that mean we can stay away from traffic altogether. I was wondering about camping too and we will maybe see if our Shetland pony will carry the gear as she would hate to be left alone and it would keep her occupied (She is the naughtiest pony ever!)and she will feel like she has an important job to do (psychological warfare!)It's beautiful where you are and it isn't too different from where we live but we are not so near the sea. I would love to take them to the beach but alas it's out of our way. I hope you are continuing to have a lovely time with Flora.
Thanks for sharing this. Where did you get your portable electric fence from? I’m planning a long trip with my pony later this year and would love to get one x
Yes, and we even have one. But I find the saddle I use sooo comfortable. I am used to the shape of it, too. In a western saddle, I'd miss the 'cushions' under your knees that give your legs extra support.
OMG YES. More padding!!! Again, Look up the solo super long rider Bernice Ende & how she uses several thick pads layered on top of each other under her Tucker saddle. 30,000 mi solo, she knows how to take care of her horses!!
Greece is a small country so if I walked non stop with a horse I would de in a city within few hours...I wish there were more landscapes😢...but at least the weather is better😅
We have three horses of our own - Henry and Winnie and their daughter Flora. And a pony called Daisy has come on loan and doesn't seem to be going home anytime soon. How about you? Do youhave a horse?
I stumbled upon your video when I was hunting for more on America's amazing long rider, Bernice Ende. I wish you many happy trails on your own solo equine adventures. Thx for posting.***Want inspiration?? Check out Bernice Ende's 30,000 mile solo rides in the states, Canada & France. She has a new book out too, "Lady Long Rider" Very good, on amazon.
It's true that you couldn't get a cart down a footpath, but narrow dirt lanes would be very doable. My thinking is primarily focused on how much I dislike sleeping on the ground. Anyway, I hope you have great fun on your trip if you haven't gone yet.
I think you're a little mixed up, Karl. We don't allow guns for protection and we don't have a queen here either - but strangely enough we seem to be doing fine!
I would suggest that this is a question of preference, and not a question about right or wrong. I've tried both sorts many times. My English saddle is very tough and extremely comfortable and fits my horse well. Western gear is not easily available here in Ireland. As you know, English horse gear has its origin as practical and effective equipment for the army and long-distance riding (before the age of cars and train), so the rider’s and horse’s comfort and safety was a priority in designing it.
Preference yes, but also beyond that, A western saddle is more secure. built more for brush. Stastics shows it more safe, secure,. Either that or try a Mc Clean., a cavalry saddle.
It is a quastion of Comfort for the horse and preventing tired muscles and saddle sores. The Blade saddle design like the Western, Endurance and Military Saddles will distribute the weight over a larger area thus minimizing muscle fatigue. The other advantage is that saddle bags and gear are more easly mounted.
Your voice is so relaxing 😊
I love how u care so much and don’t abuse ur horse...I REALLY LOVE ALL UR VIDEOS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️...THANK U SOOOOO MUCH FOR CARING ABOUT UR HORSE
So nice 🙌😍😍😍😍beautiful
Just finished my own long ride across Ireland
Well done - hope you had a good time.

Looking forward to seeing your trip video. Love all the films I have spent all afternoon watching your exploits.
Thanks Don, just finishing the video..

watching from the States. You should check into the Australian style saddles. They're comfortable and I felt quit balanced and secure on one, plus there's a belly strap. lots of straps and rings to attach
Yes, I've only seen photos of them but they look interesting alright

I love ur voice granny im 16 but i would love to do this in the future💕💕💕
i used to do some TREC with 'white horse trec' in England
So awesome.

that's terrible, Catherine! I'm so sorry to hear that. You must be so sad. Now I will worry more about ours. People are so shitty.
Beautiful
New Hanover and flat iron lake to the right in first person at 3:16
Well hardly, Tom - we're in Ireland!
We always hobble our horses over night when camping out...Cross country travel in this country, Australia, can take several weeks if you want and can spare the time...
and you have snakes and drought to worry about too. I'd love to try traveling in Australia one day but I don't think I could take the heat these days : - )
On long rides how much food do you bring for the horse? Or can they eat natural grass?
So far I've been able to rely on finding plenty of grass - they can graze all night if they want to. But I always take some dry food for them too as a treat.
This is great. I want to do a couple of nights in the Highlands early next summer (before all the midgies etc. So it isn't so uncomfortable!).) Awesome video!
Thanks for sharing this. Where did you get your portable electric fence from? I’m planning a long trip with my pony later this year and would love to get one x
You need to be given a contract to read children's books on to recordings for those books on tape type of things.
awh i love how cute flora is
How much weight can Flora carry easily? :) You were so brave to do this on your own!
I know this is superrr late, but a horse can carry 20 percent of their body weight on average
What kind of horse is Flora? Almost looks like some kind of a Draft horse.
She's an Irish Cob - and they have plenty of draft horse in their ancestry
What is the portable fence kit you are using?
a battery-powered electric fence
Very interested to learn about the telescoping electric fence posts. is there a brand or perhaps a link so I can find them?
Do you guys think it would be possible to do a west to east trip on horse in the usa? I would like to try it out
No idea about the US, sorry. But I'm sure it's been done
looks like good kit. Have you ever thought of using an American "western" saddle?
Yes, and we even have one. But I find the saddle I use sooo comfortable. I am used to the shape of it, too. In a western saddle, I'd miss the 'cushions' under your knees that give your legs extra support.
@@WayOutWestx2 I've used the English saddle for long distance trail riding and find it the most comfortable. Its like riding bareback.
great T-shirt! :)
Wonder how she got a shirt with the shape of North Carolina on it?
+Marc My World and some things that interest me. She's got connections all over the world :)
Omg u HAVE TO USE A PROBER SADDLE PAD
OMG YES. More padding!!! Again, Look up the solo super long rider Bernice Ende & how she uses several thick pads layered on top of each other under her Tucker saddle. 30,000 mi solo, she knows how to take care of her horses!!
Lads, it's like socks. If your shoes actually fit then you do not need a shite load of layers inside them to keep them comfortable
What a wonderful adventure you will have with Flora! Just wondering - why doesn't Tim come along on your journeys? (Bonnie)
He has to stay behind to milk the sheep (and all the other jobs there are to do). We rarely get to go anywhere together!
Lovely. She. Look tired. Still. Growing
Greece is a small country so if I walked non stop with a horse I would de in a city within few hours...I wish there were more landscapes😢...but at least the weather is better😅
What kind of saddle bags are those?
Not yet!
Where did you get your North Carolina shirt?
From my sister in law who lives there!
How many horses do you have
We have three horses of our own - Henry and Winnie and their daughter Flora. And a pony called Daisy has come on loan and doesn't seem to be going home anytime soon. How about you? Do youhave a horse?
no but i really want one love horses...and thanx for the offer
could I have a link to where you can buy the fencing kit? thanks! :-)
hi! :) we would like to pay a visit, just wondering where are you abouts in the west?
Sorry, Genadijus - we're just too busy and we get requests like this most days. But we'll be having another Open Day next year if that works for you.
Do you ride her with horseshoes or no?
Yes, horseshoes because we're riding on the hard roads.
Haha, horses can go up to 35 KM. I once went 30 KM in a day walking. It did suck alot.
How much to go with you? Plus two kids!!
brilliant
Can we do this in Texas!?? Lol is it legal. I need to know, I can't find answers.
I live in Wexford 😂

Thank you Evening Snow. I shall look up Bernice today!
I would prefer to have a small cart to carry all the gear and to sleep in.
Thought of that as well, and it'd have great advantages - but then we'd miss out on off-road riding and traveling along the coastline...
It's true that you couldn't get a cart down a footpath, but narrow dirt lanes would be very doable. My thinking is primarily focused on how much I dislike sleeping on the ground. Anyway, I hope you have great fun on your trip if you haven't gone yet.
Her voice is half the video
I live in Ireland
no gun? a single woman in the sticks. maybe you can throw your multi tool. oh yeah, the queen protects her subjects
I think you're a little mixed up, Karl. We don't allow guns for protection and we don't have a queen here either - but strangely enough we seem to be doing fine!
English saddle? Big mistake. Go western! Western gear is better & designed for this kind of an adventure
I would suggest that this is a question of preference, and not a question about
right or wrong. I've tried both sorts many times. My English saddle is very tough and extremely comfortable and
