    Thanks so much. Sorry you have spondy Brad but you have helped me heaps Been subscribed for years. I have Spondy and you are my biggest inspiration. I had almost lost hope before finding you. I too have taken many years to get quality of life back. Came so close to getting a fusion. Might sound a bit over the top but you changed my life and continue to give me hope and inspiration. If you ever come to Australia I would love to take you on on a tour or have you meet my wife and kids who got me back from a dark hopeless place. Thanks so much to you and Bob. Two legands!!

      @@ADawnOnTheHorizon that's what I'm talking about. If the pukes of society can get it to justify their bad behavoir chronic pain sufferers should be able to get it to have a quality of life that allows them to continue working. After all, stop allowing doctors to prescribe pain medicine, people stop working. When they stop working all the pukes don't get their free rent and groceries paid for by those pain sufferers. If not for the supposed "privileged" class to work themselves into crippleness, the non privileged class would have to work for themselves.
      Make all drugs legal. Those whom will abuse them to the point of crybaby and dirt nap aren't the people contributing to society anyway.

Tried exercises, PT, chiro, pain meds, SCS and nothing helps the pain and sciatica. Stuck in bed most of the time, cant do any physical activities or work more than an hour or two. Cant keep a job anymore because of it, no insurance=no treatment. Living life is over only existing day to day and cant hardly sleep at night. Somebody give me some hope of relief

    @Bob and Brad YEA!!! Another video made just for me!!! Thanks so much, guys!! :) Mine is at L4-5 also, but only grade 1+ or slight 2 per recent MRI. Stable for now. You're right. Standing is the worst! Sitting for long, starts to hurt. I get up every 40 minutes now from sitting, use lumbar support in chair and gel pad for seat. I walk around for 5-10 minutes. Walking is not so bad but I don't do 2-3 miles at a time. I do chiro and PT weekly, and in PT and at home work on stretching, they adjust & stretch ME and I work on core strength. When I have low back pain an ice gel pack is my friend! No sciatica or piriformis for some time, but have off & on bottoms of feet numb-ish and stabbing pains in bottom of foot or toes. Doesn't last long and am good about monitoring it. I do not lift up high overhead, arch backwards or lift (unless I HAVE to) more than about 20 pounds, and I lift properly. Thanks again. SINCE BRAD did not have time to mention it, some common causes are: Sitting daily for long periods with poor posture, lifting things over time the wrong way, the "aging process" and degenerative arthritis, combined with weak core muscles. Often, people with disc issues low back - often L4-5 area also have cervical C5-7 and in many cases also S1 area issues as well. Goes with the degeneration and also poor posture! Many patients will also have anterior tilted pelvis, tight hip flexors (basically the iliopsoas muscles), and hamstrings and quads. All true for me, but I stretch them daily!

    I fell down a staircase when I was 11. My parents thought I was faking the pain for attention for three years and by the time we actually found out what was wrong it was too late to do anything because I waited so long and finished puberty before finding out it was broken. Every day of my life has been agony, and it's gotten worse in the last 6 months. I can feel it shifting and sometimes the legs go numb. I can't stand for more than 10 minutes.
    To clarify I ain't blaming my parents because that would be an 11 year old thing to do.

    • @JT-un7dc
      @JT-un7dc 2 года назад

      I understand blaming them. My mom hid her pregnancy and bound her stomach with me in utero. The result is my right foot turned in at 9 o'clock. They straightened my foot but never addressed my pronation. I have, had life long pain & developed early spongy as a result. 70s doctors probably didn't even know treatments.

      @@jeffmendoza6556 I just try very hard to not mess my back up... and am grateful for these exercises Bob and Brad out on here. I had one Doc tell me that a better bed would help and she was right. I try hard to keep posture good, bought a special pillow for the car... a wedge pillow for when I have soreness... ice it sometimes ... never wear heels... anything else that the doc has told me is basically they can do tests or RX or procedures, right? So... turning to Bob and Brad is my best hope and it has been super. I cannot really do sports, but do walk and can dance! Can swim some strokes but certain ones hurt my neck, which is separate thing. Good luck to ya! I hardly ever have to use Advil anymore... I am so good at knowing now how to get things back in kilter when they go off kilter. Do not lift heavy stuff, make my kids help.

    • @jeffmendoza6556
      @jeffmendoza6556 2 года назад

      @@jacquelineshelagh thanks for the advice and hope! I don't get any pain just some stiffness and numbness on the right lower calf and top of foot. My calves and ham string seem to get tight very easily after running or standing for too long. I am just suprised the recommendation was surgery off the bat. I will get a second opinion and quit running and take up swimming to see if that improves the issue. I will look to work on posture management, core strength over the next few weeks and will not lift anything heavy from now on!

    • @jacquelineshelagh
      @jacquelineshelagh 2 года назад

      @@jeffmendoza6556 Yeah, i get stiff too. The Bob and Brad stretches for hip flexibility might help. I really enjoy pulling the leg back in those stretches... I went to a Chiro for a few sessions and did not like some of the rougher stuff they did at all. Scared me into quitting, but if you do go, perhaps they can stretch out your body a bit, it really helped in those kinds of moves. No quick adjustments for us spondies , ( My own opinion of course!) I recovered from that but did not like it. I really also feel so much better off DAIRY ( All milk products, even when it is just a small amt in the facility of processing. Also Avoid gluten. These things do cause inflammation, and you can find lists online of loads of other diet changes to decrease inflammation . I had to start going to a naturopathic doc due to thyroid problems and it is just one more person in my support for over all health. I constantly am reading and keeping aware of my good days and bad days, looking at what I had the previous day. I have to be pretty careful. Could be helpful for you, maybe not needed. I just know someone told me about this and it took me YEARS to give in and finally try it. So, one thing at a time if you do start avoiding foods and try to make it fun. Good luck! Glad to help .

    • @jacquelineshelagh
      @jacquelineshelagh 2 года назад

      @@jeffmendoza6556 by the way, was this an obvoius injury that brought on the visit to the Doc, or was it gradually developing? Mine was not too noticeable til I was rear ended at a red light. The docs told me my athletic body had kept it in check for years ( Old Volleyball injury I think caused it... bent backwards in a fall ) but the accident weakened all my soft tissue support. I did have tingling in my feet when sleeping certain ways but could usually get rid of that by walking around and moving. Your numbness .. yeah go to more docs and read lots... I found out so many things by reading about other folks' experiences. Some regret doing sports as it can make things get worse.. So we adapt . I think Brad and Bob really are a godsend!

He presents seven tips to relieve pain and regain normal activity, which include avoiding activities that increase back pain or nerve irritation, doing exercises to strengthen core muscles and improve posture, and seeking professional help from a doctor or physical therapist. The video also includes a demonstration of a modified spine model and mentions a stretch out strap giveaway. Bob Shrum shares his personal experience with the condition and how he was able to regain his normal activity level with a proper protocol.

    I got surgery 10 years ago when I was a teenager (L5-S1 fusion) and I've been mostly pain free (before the pain was unbearable). I lost a bit of flexibility but can do most of the stuff just fine, although some numbness comes and goes to the right leg. Do you have any advice for those who had to go through surgery? Thanks!

    Can Spondylolisthesis (at L4--L5 discs) cause instability in the SI joint also under certain conditions?
    I was diagnosed with L4-L5 spondylolisthesis few years back. I recovered. However, recently I carried my laptop bag on one shoulder and held a light suitcase in the other hand while traveling. When I got back, my left hip felt stuck, stiff and painful. It was as if the left hip/ilium was misaligned. I couldn't sleep on that side for almost a week. It was scary. I little better now and have resumed Zumba.
    What can I do to stabilize my back, my SI and hips?

      @@carichaos1651 I took some physiotherapy under an orthopedic doctor's advice. Then I started few exercises to ease the pain and for spinal mobility. It took a couple of months to resume my old exercises. Zumba came much later. I constantly have to do some exercises like neutral spine or pelvic rise, etc. for my spine. But I can't do some exercises like back bends that could strain my lumbar back. Bob and Brad's channel have some good advice for conditions like this.

    So many items that would make my life bearable if only I wasn’t on disability and poor. I’m a glutton for punishment on yard work too. No one else is gonna get things done. With spondy, do you hear a lot of clicking? My disc is almost gone and I hear deep clicks when moving certain ways.

    • @BobandBrad
      @BobandBrad  5 лет назад

      I do not have audible clicking but it does not surprise me. Typically if there is no pain with the clicking, it is not a problem.
