All-new BMW X2 Review - How does this FWD 3-cylinder compare to its rivals?

- The BMW X2 is certainly a niche model in SA; never selling in huge numbers. Will the second generation X2 change that, or will it remain a niche player?
In 2016, BMW decided there was a gap that needed filling between the X1 and X3, debuting the X2 at the Paris Motor Show and commencing sales in 2018. The first generation was more of a hatchback than SUV, and judging by the fact there are only around 40 listed on our site, the South African buying public stuck to the X1 or perhaps sought out models from BMW's rivals.
With the latest BMW X2, the Bavarian brand has opted for radically different styling from the first generation; the car has grown in every dimension and now looks far more like a coupé SUV, which is something BMW arguably invented many moons ago with the X6.
In this review, Ciro De Siena takes us on a walkaround tour of the new X2, covering the price, variants available, boot space, interior, engine and drive characteristics of the newcomer.

I know this new X2 is supposed to move me from a visual perspective but I still like the older one more.. I even appreciate the auxiliary exhaust tail pieces and the instrument cluster. This new one is modern and high tech with amazing customization and high resolution but I love the previous generation just fine with all my physical buttons. Anyways that's just my opinion please don't rip me apart with comments saying that I'm an old man who battles to keep up with the times. Great review!

Almost 1m for 115kW? What are these luxury brands doing? They're literally just selling the badge at this point.
That is how "premium" brands have always operated. Charge a fortune for an extremely average car just because of the symbol stuck on the front.
Something must be holding the badge up, it would fall on the road without the rest of it !
Costs way too much. Approaching a million rand optioned out and you have a 3 cylinder engine and 115kW. Yuck.
Give me a Audi Q3 Sportback please.

Welcome back! I thought the interior looked a bit drab in here, especially for just under R1m! Mercedes have been making classier looking interiors for awhile

this is pure branding, most definitely the 18i will not have sales than M35i but its a nice car though ..the engine/price they missed it on X2.

The rear-seats-headroom is/was better in the previous X2 version despite the car being small in all dimensions.

A nice video would be a side by side by side review of this car, the Beijing X55, tiggo 7, jolion. This car cost double of those.. Is it worth it? But has the same specs, if not less.. Ie. Beijing has 130kw with 305 torque.
I can't even defend the BMW by arguing it is a better long term ownership prospect. Their cars aren't the best to own outside warranty

Yep, but the x55 would leave this car in the dust....... And has genuine leather ventilated AMG seats...i love BMW, my last car was a BMW. But it's just not value for money as this video clearly shows. I guess the target market are people looking for a good badge not a good car.

Like this format as well mate, X2 the question is why, just invest in the X1 and make that better, now two models that hangs for one another. 15L three cylinder, had the rewind and listen again, not making sense for that price. Hey but BMW will always be Sheer Driving Pleasure.

Personally I'd say H6 GT is also some sort of a rival or this is a souped up version of H6GT IN MY EYES.
I want to see how many of these are going to sell in SA. Value proposition wise, this is way tos expensive, the X1 is was prettier compared to this.
