All-new Volvo EX30 Review - It's super fast but is it super smart?

  • The lower-priced end of the electric vehicle market in South Africa has just received another competitor in the form of the new Volvo EX30.
    Priced in South Africa from R775,000, which is in the ballpark of the GWM Ora 03 we reviewed earlier this year, the EX30 has proved a hit in Europe with it's clever design, inside and out, but mostly because it seems to offer a lot of car for a very decent price.
    In this review, Ashley Oldfield takes us on an in-depth tour of the new EX30.

      While most countries actually give incentives and rebates for electric cars, our "intelligent" ANC government decides to add more tax instead. How brilliant. 😔😔

      Despite the incentives given in other countries, the sale of Ev's are dropping rapidly. No wonder the clever people at Toyota aren't interested in them. Ev's will never take over from ice cars.
      Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are more what people are interested in.

    I sat in both this and the bigger model and though I didn't drive them, based on that experience of being inside them, I disagree completely with Ash's comments about how special and premium the interior is. To me it felt cheap, rough and plasticky. The complete opposite of premium. The whole experience felt budget.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 Месяц назад +2

      I find that alot of car reviewers these days mistake flashy technology, ambient lights or weird design for premium these days. Almost every new car, especially from the so called premium manufacturers have terrible build and material quality. Geely owns Volvo and a brand called Zeekr. The Zeeker which is a Chinese brand is based off the same platform and batteries but its build and material quality seems way above the Volvo based on a review Autogefuhl did on it. Somehow the legacy premium automakers are going cheap to boost profits meanwhile Chinese cars now have the best build and material quality.

    After watching this review, I can't but help but sum up the video in one word..."Compromise".
    The entire car just feels like Volvo have lost the plot and is missing so much that make a car enthusiast an enthusiast.
    Yes, it drives from 0-60 quickly.. but that's kind of where the positives end. The interior dashboard looks cheap and very empty. The rear passenger seats is what a car would look like after someone robbed you. There is no centre console for drinks, no leg room, no privacy shade in the sun roof. There are only speakers in the front and it comes with unnecessarily large 19" or 20" inch wheels. There is no Android Auto and quite honestly, I think the seats look terrible. Nothing wrong with the usual fabric covering or "pleather" wrapping.
    This type of EV I would honestly price at R300,000 if we ignore the 0-60 speed times. Its missing so much.
