Pops oldways you have to think about up river too, there is no possible way that some sunken barges down river will cause the extinction of a whole species. Watch the boil just past the damn when the second barge is pinned and as it is destroyed the boil surges around the unimpeded flows and cycles in towards where the flow is impeded. As the barge breaks apart, the boil surges in where the flow is still impeded and reduces where the flow was impeded but is now visibly unobstructed.
Then as the camera zooms in and you see the workers on the walkway where the 2nd barge is pinned and breaking apart, for a moment you see a red mass in the water in the 1st quadrant (center of top right of screen) which is presumably part of the 1st barge coming to the top of the boil. It is likely being ground to small bits and is being cycled from the bottom to the top compliments of hydraulic flow rather than buoyancy, as the boil of a damn reduces the buoyancy of objects due to more oxygen in the water.
Damns are awesome mechanisms for displaying the power of flowing water. Dangerous, but awesome.

Unfortunately, they haven't been able to yet. The lakes and rivers are still well above flood stages even after a month. They won't be able to start recovery until they can close the flood gates of the upriver dam. And that won't happen u til it stops raining in NE Oklahoma and SE Kansas.........😟
