Never seen a pattern used to chop. Very detailed precise way to do it . Nice job as usual !!
Of all the videos that I seen cutting the top of a vehicle this is the best l’ve seen , you did a very good job my friend excellent Fabrication, your one hell of an American God bless you my friend and thank you for sharing .👍
Thanks, out standing craftsman ship . God Bless!!!!
That wood pattern blown my mind. Congrats, the chopp went perfect and nailed the stance. 👌🏼
Awesome video, never seen a chop like that. First class! Please get back to the shoebox
I do need to get back to the shoebox and get it chopped!
Thanks for sharing, Travis! The chop suits the coupe very well! I love the concept behind chopping the doors first! It really shows in your finished product! Looking forward to the finish welding video! Enjoy your week! Be safe!
Thanks Harry!
Top job mate I really like your low key videos no yelling and thinking there the greatest your skills are second to none👍all the best from down under 🇦🇺👍
Wow, thank you i appreciate the kind words!
Another awesome chop! I think the 4" haircut was the right call. Love the music, reminds me of Clutch.
That's the way I do a chop, start with the doors and make the top fit it. I make my cuts up high and make sure to align the window channel. Cut vertical and align the cut point. It's easier to remove metal than to fill gaps. Also when you cut a vertical line on the roof angle the line slightly angled so that it closes the blade curf gap. Always use the extra metal to your advantage.
I just learned how to chop. I did mine about a year and and a half ago. I can really appreciate the work that goes into this. You did a great job!
Probably one of the cleanest looking chops I’ve come across. Looks amazing.
Great video as always. Glad I found your channel. Your car is going to look great when you're finished.
The 4" chop looks great! Leaning towards doing the same amount on my sedan when I get to it.
My Harbor Freight air saw kept stopping and just air blew all the time. Bought an electric one and it works great, much better since I don't have to hear my compressor kick on repeatedly. Awesome video's, love watching this stuff! 👍🏼
Details on the electric saw. Thanks.
Nice clean work as usual. Nice thought process and thinking things out.
Thanks for sharing!
No problem! No secrets here
Great job, love the way you did the doors first.
Thank you!
Looking Great, keep up the good work!
Looks awesome! Nice work!
Excellent job! I learner something tonight!!
Always take the time to get your project done nice chop looks good
Looks Great !!!
Nailed it. Bout to chop my 30 Model A Coupe 4” as well. Thanks for all the good content and tips on the chop. Keep it up. 🍻
Awesome chop Travis I really enjoyed watching keep up the good work
Thanks rob!
Nice tidy chop with great explanation along the way! This video should be required viewing for anyone planning to chop their model A.
Let’s get it to 100k views!
The chop looks sharp! Nick job!
Congrats man looks great!👍👍👍
Travis, you are a top gun, wish i could give you a million likes 👍🏼
Travis love the 4 inch chop.... love the way you cut the roof...... never seen it done before.... where do you get that idea?????? in the last video when you drill the holes for the screws for the hinges....you had a tool that you recessed the steel so that the screws would fit in there correctly...I asked you for the name of it you never got back to me I greatly appreciate that junkmando
Great job Travis , you killed It !!
I think so! Haha
I enjoy watching all your videos bro great job watching from Fall River Massachusetts
awesome chop travis !
LOOKS GREAT
Very cool!
Fantastic. Looks 100 percent better, and a very nice way of doing it.
I’m so happy I did it. Don’t know what I was waiting for
That was a clean cut perfect.
exciting work
Soooo nice! Fine job Sir!
Thank you sir!
Mad skills man, bellos customs uses a air saw when he does chops also.
I saw him and figured I’d give it a shot!
That's a clean chop job
The Chop looks really Nice !!! Good job!
Beautiful job and 4" is the sweet spot. 👌
that's a sweet chop! glad to see ya work on your own car too.
Yeah I couldn’t take it sitting there all alone anymore
Looks great Travis. Looking for a 28-29 cab, figure a 2" chop. Stay safe bro, Terry
awesome job. i did a VW beetle 30yrs ago and it was aa different beast
Man you do some nice work. Looks amazing.
That means a lot! Thank you!
Looks bad ass!
Nice job Travis! Greets from Holland!
“Im from Holland isn’t that weird!” (Austin powers reference) Haha glad to see I have viewers in new places! I appreciate you!
Well done
Cool stuff man. I’m going to do a 2 inch chop of my 31 coupe soon. Just got my chassis from brookville roadster delivered!
Oh awesomeness!
Great chop i have a 27 model-T that im going to chop, Love the chop the doors first idea. Why didn't you chop it straight across the back instead of the tooth idea? Great job , great video
👍🏻Awesome job!!! Looks good!!!
Thank you!! 😁
With that much chop the whole car should be way lower ,,in my opinion
that is amazing nice job
Just found your channel today ( 11-17-21) very detailed and this is going to help me a lot .. I recently picked up a 1933 Plymouth 2 door sedan … Since I’m a big guy I need more room so my question is … have you ever widened a car ????
I have not widened a car before but it is doable. The tricky part will be getting proportions correct.
Nice work bro 🤙🏻
Looks great son great job as always.
Love ya
When I was getting the chop done on my ‘31 we went from 3 hinges to 2. It really cleaned up the side of the car.
I’ve heard of that being done. Maybe I’ll do it one day
Travis, great job!!! Just getting ready for my 4” chop. Can you share details of the door template for a first timer?
I’ll go over it in the next video for ya
Sweet chop
Thank you!
Interesting how you cut the area around the side windows. Came out good though. Nice chop.
Absolutely a awesome chop fit looks good
ChryslerSled Qld Australia
Smokin' !!!
Clean 🤘🏽
BADASS!!!!!
Thanks darrin!
Love it
Travis, I am a kind of detail kind of guy, I do like the window track patterns that you made, awesome way to do that...the chop looks great!!!
Thanks, it’s my preferred way, won’t do a model a any different
@@RACGARAGE Travis, I finally bought a 30 A, I want to chop the top, but I was thinking only a couple inches, but after watching your video for the second time, I like the four inches, did you stick with the stock A chassis? I've got more questions that I will save for later
@@michaelguinn5736 I did stick with the A chassis, haven’t even boxed it yet.
Travis how Many hours do you have in this chop? Looks awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
Very Impressive! Thank you for sharing. How many hours does it take to chop a top? P.s I like the rug
Very nice job! Out of curiosity, how many blades did you go through with the air saw?
I think about 3 or 4
On your first video when you were setting the body to frame I noticed differential had a splined shaft. What fitting was used on the spline end to connect with driveshaft? I was told there was only one Ujoint in the drive line to the transmission before it went through the Torque Tube. Did your differential use a Ujoint at both ends?
Splined shaft? Not sure what you saw, I have a torque tube so one joint on the transmission side
That "window measure/layout" system looks pretty clever and maybe even "foolproof" once it's understood but the craftsman doing the work. Could you devote part or all of a video explaining that process?? Seems like it would be very beneficial knowing how to do something like that and the process might even be applicable in other places.
That sheetmetal all lined up around the back window without needing to make any slits or ??? Did it need to be bent or pried at all?? That looks like it saved a "ton" of work!!! As always, very impressive work!!! Makes even all of us just watching feel good!!! 🌵👍👍👍🛠⚙️🔩🗜🌵
Thanks! These cars pretty much chop themselves. I am making more videos on the rest of the process, a lot more to come!
I know it's been a long time but you didn't happen to keep any of those parts you cut out in your chop did you? I have a pretty junky pile of Model A parts and I'm going to do a similar chop, mainly because my rear quarter window at the B-pillar is rusted. It's rusted right in the middle but might be a little more than a 4" chop which starts to get a little uncomfortable for a normal sized person. Excellent videos, by the way. I'm leaning heavily on these for my build.
I do have them all rhodealliancecustoms@gmail.com
Would it work to tack the well fitting doors into place, 2-3 inch in the section that is to be removed, there by bracing the body for chopping? also would shimming to a tight fit, jack stands placed under the frame, there by stopping frame/body from flexing?
Gotta learn to enunciate them intros! haha Proud of you my boy! Great job!
I’m trying bud!
I'm not sure..you don't do all the theatrics of the 'professional' builders..you just seem to do the job right. How good does that chop look!!!!
Good decision to chop 4”. Chopping the doors first is the best way to go and that staggered cut really worked out well, no relief cuts. How many hours did it take to get to that point?
Excellent craftsmanship and another great video!
I would say it took about 8 hours of planning cutting and fitting
That’s pretty quick, years ago I took my coupe to a shop that quoted me a price and said it takes 30-40 hrs. I had the skills to cut and weld but I never did a chop before. I took my time and did it in 16 hrs and was happy with the results. Never used or recommended that shop….chop shop. lol
@@philrainey805 well the rest of the finishing will take a while. He wasn’t far off. Getting the top cut and tacked back on is the easy part
@@RACGARAGE Ok, that makes me feel a little better about his quote. I know quality work takes time.
Got a 1930 model A 2 door sedan what would it cost to chop the top
Did you do the luvers on the trunk?
I did not unfortunately. It was one of the first hot rod parts I ever purchased from an older hot rodder
Chop looking good. I think you will be able to cruise it down the road before the snow flies
I hope so and if it is snowing well too bad I’ll drive it anyway!
I have to say I have never seen any of the other chops done this way also yes I liked Dave's Build but I have been watching to see the progression of this one but the other ones have been a good time breaker while waiting to see it lol
I’m glad you stayed and waited!
it's good viewing why wouldn't I
Thanks for tagging me for a follow! I’ve been meaning to tag you back, I didn’t know you could do that until your last video haha
No worries man just figured I’d put all you guys in every description so people will have more content to watch!
@@RACGARAGE definitely not enough traditional hotrodders on here! 👍🏼
What can you say about this build well Awesome Agressive Cool as comes to mind
I’m impressed with condition of body and wood, have you replaced wood, eat job
Wood has been replaced and the body is from Arizona!
The door chopped first are smart, Bobby Walden uses the same method.
YEAH! LOKS MEAN FROM ANY ANGLE.
Do you have an engine hoist?
I do not, I use my chainfall
You make it look so simple and easy……BUT, it’s not!! Or at least it was never that simple and easy for me, so I just gave up on them in ‘97! Seemed like I’d measure 5 or 6 times, double check again, then cut…..and it still wouldn’t fit!!!! It takes more patience than I had to give!!!!! I’m jealous!!! 😤 😤
Thanks brother! It is an art!
Does anyone chop at an angle ? Like say 4 inch front to 2 inch back ?
I’ve seen a few with a wedge chop but they don’t look that great honestly. That’s probably why no one does it.
@@RACGARAGE Ok, never seen it that's why I asked. Thanks
Ever had metal removed from your eye? I have 2 times. Now I wear safety glasses every time I cut or grind.
A few times actually. Guess I don’t learn lol
I had a 66 VW beetle when I was stationed in Millington Tn. back in '76 ,her name was Mabel . Just sayin'.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
FUCKING BITCHIN’. Dude it looks awesome.
On a 4” chop I prefer the rear window to be 1/2 of the 4”….. Just me….
Killer
to me you should have left it full size, but that's me
Sooooo....you're sure the "West Valley Prick" is the car? Right? 'Cause I'm a pretty nice guy....
Anybody aware if any crazy ass bastard out there ever made one taller?
next time instead of chopping add 4 inches :)>
Lmaooo
That time lapse sucks
Yeah it does. I thought it would have came out different but that the only footage I had so I had to put it in. Next time it won’t be so car sick inducing lol
Enjoy your videos. Can’t stand that tedious “Elevator Hard Rock” soundtrack.
I’m trying some new stuff now, different type of elevator music haha. It’s hard to find good music without copyrights.
Yoo ruined and wrecked a classic piece of history 😢. So sad to see such a beautiful car chopped and ruimed.
glad you liked the video lol
Looks awesome!!!
