- The New England area seems to be our hot spot these last few weeks and this trip takes us to Upstate New York. The family sent us a few photos of this 38 Vert and a short video and we noticed the rear wheel is off, which could be bad. Overall the car looks very solid and was an old hot rod with a Pontiac engine and tuck and roll interior. First hurdle is to dig the car out of the dirt pile and figure out whats going on with the rear wheel. Let's get to work and save this classic Early Ford!!

Don't let Bad Chad get his hands on it because he'll screw it up big time
oh come on.. he has the best taste ;-)
Matt’s motivational words of the day, “of course it’s an old Ford and we have to rescue it.” Another successful rescue mission of an old gem. Looking forward to you guys working on it at the shop.
Thanks for taking us along ! this car is a little piece of hot rod history,a 38 ford convertible at that !
Love the styling of this ford. Henry was at the top of his game
Not many did, which makes them more affordable than a 37 or a 39.
Morning Matt & Mike! Your automotive archeology is something I love watching!! Hopefully y'all will be as fortunate with this find as the last one!! Y'all be safe!!
one of the coolest cars from the mid-thirties.
BTW, probably a foxhole. what with the deer leg and all. and the excessive digging. WWII vets didn't call their protective excavations in the ground "foxholes" for nothing.
Dude!!! Look at the Art Deco front end!!! The grill bars goes around and down the hood sides!! ✌️
Oh he is a beauty!!! He is blinking hard to be out in the sun again!!! Yea great job guys, Tom and I can't wait to see this project develop!!!!!🥰😁
You are sooo lucky. Back in '67 I went with a couple friends to look at a 39 sedan with a Pontiac 389 in it with a 4 bbl carb and aluminum intake . was in primer. Shuddah bought it but already had a 41 and no place to put it. Can't wait to hear it run !
Looks to be an excellent start on a project for someone, great rescue!! And you made it out without being attacked by a wild animal!!
Another half red car! I thought I was seeing things. Very smooth recovery.
These are my favorite videos that you post. Pretty cool find, I live in Western New York state, I'll keep my eyes open for any cool old Fords in my area. Awesome video!
Even if this one was in your area you wouldn't find it unless the owner told you. Like most their buried behind years of stuff.
Nice find! This’ll be a fun one to see resurrected.
I think half the fun is recovery!
Another drop top…when it rains, it pours!! This one’s pretty sweet!!
Glad you like it!
Another great adventure ! Personaly, I never really liked the front end of the '38 DeLuxe Fords, but it is a salvageable old Ford and a convertible. Be interesting to see what you do with it.
I totally agree with you!!
Damn. Ford convertibles popping up like mushrooms.
That ‘38 is probably my favorite car you’ve acquired. Too bad I don’t have the wherewithal to buy it and get it fixed up. Not into working on cars anymore but it would be a blast to cruise around in! Love to see how it turns out whoever gets it.
Wow ! I have had almost the same thing to do with a 38 Deluxe coupe found asleep in 1996.On the road for the last time in June 1975. Still unfinished today but working in progress after hard work to do. Fortunately, it had the mechanical brakes so it was easier to move it ! Good luck for the restoration.🏆
Hey, you got yourself a nice one. Bet it's a Muncie 4 spd too. Congrats.
Very nice careful job retrieving that Ford without causing further damage to the car. You really worked hard to save that rare beauty. I'm subscribed so I'll be following the project. I hope you maintain the original appearance and character of this 38 Ford. 1938 was a recession year so American cars from that year are much less common than 1937, 1940 etc. You have an even less common Deluxe model. In the 1970s when I got active with Ford flatheads, 1938 Fords weren't very popular with restorers because of their heart shaped grill. Now they are, because of the art moderne look of the front.
Thanks for watching!
Its a 3 point hitch box blade for a tractor to blade dirt roads and such
Nice find. Old groundhog burrow now being used by red fox. Raccoons like elevation.
In my opinion, the best looking front of the early Fords.
First thing , piss those headlights off and put originals back on.
38 ford. The unwanted stepchild. good find, good luck, 38 parts are hard to find
She's a beauty! Nice job , hope to see her one day restored!
out of all the cool cars you guys have found....this is the ONE car you should build. its a rare car, a little over 6,000 produced.
What a great find...this could be a sweet ride for the right person...back to the 50s 😎👍
dang. That Holsclaw trailer is pretty desirable in my world, too, for what it's worth.
looks like someones lawn mowing business at one time.
What a hall of cool stuff 😊
Great find good luck with it
Another awesome find 😊 Can hardly wait to what yall do with it.
Slap a dash in it with all of the gauges, pop in the right missing windshield and you'll have a nice car ready to sell just like it's sedan convertible sibling!
I was wondering if there were badgers up there...?
Another amazing keeper❤!!
Thank you Matt and Mike for another adventure saving a old Hot Rod ! Looking forward to the next video ! Have a great Thanksgiving !
Oh yeah that thing is a 3 point hitch box blade. Used behind a small tractor for landscape grading. AL B.
💜😍😎😉. Love this 38’. Oh my gosh what a awesome find. Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this. Hopefully you keep it, as is, ya know what I mean!! Very cool 😎
I hope that's a 421 in there Matt! Love those torquey Poncho engines. This one would be great fun to drive for sure.
You guys looked like Egyptians moving that piece around 😂😂 cool car 😎👍
There are coyotes in upstate NY, those holes resemble coyote dens
Rescue is one of the best and fun part of the whole deal!
You would think a couple of guys from PA would recognize a groundhogs burrow.😉😉
I think that was a Coyote bureau. With the leg Is groundhogs don't eat meat
The Greek philosopher, Archimedes, said: “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” Don't know why that suddenly occurred to me, lol.
Very Nice Score
Good work, guys. Looks like those headlights have been modified with later parts? [maybe?]
Yes they’ve had 40 ford style sealed beam conversions. We’ll revert back to originals
Matt see if you could come back with your tractor and get that box blade to grade your driveway !
Is that a poliglass tire 😂😂 definitely a 70s hot rod 😎
I watched on tv. Had to comment. Buy some lunch trays! They are more expensive than would send a blind gift not knowing if you would use. Dennis Collins did once, and forgot. When Wheels are locked up, the cafeteria lunch trays act as furniture "moving men". This can save you and (Dennis) hours of and aggravation about sliding a car on the ground.
Cafeteria lunch trays for sliding locked up wheels!!!!!!!!
Definitely a good idea! As soon as Mikes son is old enough we’ll get him to swipe a set from the cafeteria !
Great find can’t wait for the next video
Great looking car.i hope you re place the GM ENGINE with a flat head.great job guys.
Nice find!
Iron cabrio garage perfect 👍
Possible new merch: ITG shovel & ITG Raccoon club!
The new ITG mascot should be a raccoon. I'm sure they could sell a ton of little stuffed raccoon animals with an ITG badge on it. 😂
You guys are going to need cloned copies of yourselves to work on all the active parallel projects. That said, great to see this car saved.
Make it all Ford again!
Convertible dashes are different than closed car dashes. It's going to be hard to find one.
WHAT EVER YOU DO! DO NOT! I REPEAT! DO NOT! SHOW THIS CAR TO BADDD CHADDD! HE'LL GRIND THE CAR IN HALF, AND MAKE IT INTO A TWO DOOR SEDAN! HAS NO TOOLS, JUST FIFTHTEEN GRINDERS WITH CORDS THROWN THRU -OUT THE SHOP! ON THE FLOOR!
I couldn't take that clown and unsubscribed him.
What are you trying to say?
@@IEchuckieSENORITA CHAD! IN ONE HOUR! WITH HIS FIFTHEEN GRINDERS CAN MAGICALLY, TURN THIS BEUTIFUL FORD CONVERTBLE! INTO A (1) MOTOR CYCLE HAULER! (2) A NITRO-BURNING DRAGSTER! (3) INTO TWO DOOR SEDAN! (4) A GAS POWERED SKATEBOARD! WELLL DOGGIE!!!
Chad has built some nice rigs and screwed up many more.i like the buggatis.,Coe raceway Ford coupe, jaguar are jokes.at least a few are drivable for movei props
I quit watching Bad Chad. After watching him butcher that sweet Hudson, the T Bird, but the 39 Ford Tudor was the last straw for me. If he would have stuck with chopping up the rotted junkers, I would have continued to watch him, but almost everyone told him to leave it alone when he asked the viewers what he should do with it and he even said he was considering leaving the body stock then he butchered it anyway and I haven't watched him since. If you ask your viewers what you should do and then do the opposite of what they say, that says that you don't care what the viewers say even though you asked, and therefore don't deserve to have those viewers continue watching. Besides that.... HE IS A HACK who builds junk that is going to rust out because he builds right over the top of rust.
Badass find!!! But needs a flathead!
Awesome car !!
Please Please When pumping up old. Old tires Wear safety glasses. Maybe gloves They can explode like a bomb. No joke, think about it. I was with a friend of mine. What happened to him? He looked like buckwheat. Probably would have lost his eye if it wasn't for his glasses. I love you guys and don't want to see anything happen to you.😢😢😢😢
We'll see how many people know who Buckwheat was . probably not many
@@IEchuckie they made a lil' raskles movie in the late 90's , some younger people may remember.
But ...... most of us are old.
I remember buckwheat and the gang !
I guess I'm getting old. I didn't realize buckwheat was that old. I remember it like it was yesterday

The design of the 1938 Ford was the work of Edsel Ford, Henry's only son. Sadly, Edsel passed away in 1943, not long after these cars came to market.
I believe the infamous Bruce Tomlinson (Long Time Tin Picker and all around great guy) sold that car at Rhinebeck Swap Meet many years ago....
We’ve heard that from someone else! Wish we knew more of its history!
nice survivor, great show guys. I,d love to share this video with the subscribers over at utuber Bad Chad channel. Funny Chad bought a 2 door , he decided to chop it into a convertable, then cut for a carson top, now, he is building a bike hauler out of it. His viewers would like to see a real 38 convert. for sure. Thanks
Cool car with lots of potential.
Cool 😊
this is dream car material...
That’ll be a neat ole car Matt.
Put a 3 deuce intake on that Pontiac like a lot of them had and i think it would fit the look of that car fine. Probably move pretty well too!
We'll see if you can get this one running and driving in two weeks ??????
you need a tube dolly with 12" boat trailer tires to set the rear on for jobs like this to mke life easier with cars that won't roll...
Not a bad idea!
WOW!!! this is amazing!!!
Pontiac engines are remarkably resilient over most others for long-term hibernation. unless something was peeing down the cooperator I'm willing to put 20 Bucks that says it turns over and start. if it's already got a later rear end in it. It might be interesting to just swap it out if that's the problem and keep it that way
It’s in very good hands……👍
Matt and Mike that holes more likely a groundhogs.
yup. raccoons don't usually dig for shelter. but let's hope nothing was in there to be burried alive.
Those are groundhog holes Matt.AL B.
Brilliant!
Rusty relic relocation by Iron trap !
Yeah, you're right. That's a box grader or scraper.
Great save you guys. Quite a rare body style. Speaking of old Ford cabriolets, how's a certain 34 going?
Beautiful car!!
Love it, Matt!
This was definitely a 70's built hot rod. That was my era. Are you going to put a flathead back in it?
Surprised you guys haven't learned the "rag on the cable" trick. 😏
Nice find guys!!! 😎
Awesome car
very cool
Matt and Mike, did you search the property for the flathead and any of the original parts?
No other car parts there sadly
You guys keep this up the raccoons will have no place to live just kidding great as always
Put a towel or something on the strap so if it breaks it doesn't go flying. Works on chains too.
Upstate NY? That's a lot of real estate as in the entire state from Yonkers north anyway of being more specific as in Catskills, southern tier, capital region, Adirondacks, or beer country in the Genesee (damn I could really go for a nice Genny Cream ale out in AZ bout now) - Ruff Buff
Nice find.

Nice intro!
Sweet!✊
You drive all the way up there when you have a ton of 30's cars right in Upper Pottsgrove on Maugers mill road.

In case of a locked wheel rollback drivers put dish detergent in the wheel's path.
Don't think that would do much on dirt.
I posted above. Cafeteria trays act like Moving Men furniture movers!
Never seen one with that nose and grill before.
Here is an idea for a side-gig for Matt - he can be a raccoon-pop collector!
A guy can dream!
