I'll admit, I haven't played the other nominees besides Astro Bot and...nor do I really plan to. But Astro Bot, for me, is an unforgettable experience from start to finish that appeals to not only kids but to anyone/everyone. Studios really should take a lesson and try to make more family appealing games so that everyone can matter. That's not to say that more mature games like Black Myth: Wukong or Metaphor: Refantazio shouldn't be nominated, let alone win a game award, but I feel like games also need an appeal to kids alongside older adults. In my eyes, because Team Asobi treated their developers and audiences in mind with Astro Bot, and put them and the fun in the game first from money, sales, etc. I feel like it more than deserves Game of the Year.
I feel the same way, although I’m a little bitter that FF7 Rebirth didn’t get it lol. It feels wrong but at the same time Astro Bot was literally perfect. We definitely need more games like this!
But it doesnt feel wrong simply because astro bot didnt follow industry formula like its competitors Like Bauldrs gate 3, Elden ring, It takes 2 and even Last of Us 2 (regrettably) What astro bot does is acknowledge and respect the games that Playstation surrounded and sadly abandoned. It also gives other platformers a chance in the spotlight.
am i detecting some JRPG bias me being not the biggest fan of JRPGs, (i like them, but they havent blown me away in quite a while since they generally dont evolve much) the two best games I played this year were Helldivers 2 and Dragon Age Veilguard. I did play and love Astro Bot, it just is not my personal choice for GotY, and I'm fine with that. We all have our preferences. When you read off the list of GotY award winners so far, there is some rich diversity there, so its all good!
@ deck building games have been pretty popular for many years in the board game community. Seems like it's just making its way over to video games. People call them rougelike, which at this point to me just means burst runs. Easy to pick up, quick to play, no big deal to just leave.
I platinumed both Metaphor and Astrobot, finished Rebirth as well. I'm bouncing between Metaphor and Astrobot on my personal game of the year. I think Astrobot will take the cake as it's the most fun I've had gaming this year. Gaming is supposed to be about fun. Rebirth was fine, but as I get further from it, both Metaphor and Infinite Weatlh were better RPGs this year.
Yeah I’m feeling the same way. People keep wanting to take it away from Astro bot because they think it’s a tech demo but the game is just absolutely fun from start to finish.! It’s definitely top five favorite games of 2024 for me.

@TheCollective1 dude it's so hard cause you want to provide people with meat 🍖 and not milk or fluff.. a genuine & authentic experience that represents the truth.. but not everyone values things the same 🤓
Very true. I really like a lot of the mini games because that’s exactly how the original was but man they just added way too many and a lot of them are really boring.
You wanna know something funny? Astro Bot probably wouldn’t be a contender this year if Sony didn’t abandoned 80% of their licensed games. Other than that, Astro Bot is one of those games where Simplicity is all you need for a great game. It’s not story driven nor super action packed, it’s just fun.
Gaming is suppose to be about fun that everyone can get in to from kids to adults! Astro bot was that game. Final fantasy 7 rebirth has too much bloat in it "Even the devs acknowledged it" I dont want to play multiple mini games just to progress.
At 6mins in you talk about being programmed to accept AAA as the standard for winning GOTY. Funny thing to note Astro Bot is a AAA game, but also Baldurs Gate 3 was not (this is just a reference for a AA game that feels AAA). Not only were you tricked by your feeling but also the profile of the game good sir. I do agree though I find it hard to understand why Astro Bot won. However it simply is not my type of game infact I am in the (very small) camp still coping that Helldivers 2 was torn down by PS and thinks it could have had a fair shot.
Dang I got hit with the double Sammy of brain scams lol. I do agree that Helldivers should’ve been on it too. I mean it was a whole internet sensation for months!

Astro bot was just the better and more memorable game. Its probably the one game where the haptic feedback actually works.
Very true! I still love rebirth but man Astro was awesome!!
Dang, bro's rockin the killmonger hairstyle
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
FINAL FANTASY 7 REBIRTH WAS RIGHT THERE!!!
Foreal bro!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Exactly! It is a love letter to the games of old.

Absolutely! 🤣 and yes I totally agree! I was hating on the card game but mostly because it’s crazy to see that happen!
Card rgps have been hot this year for some reason lol
Bro I don’t get it at all! I was genuinely shocked to see it on GOTY! Like how lol?!

That’s pretty cool! I’m glad different style of games are doing better now!

HUGE FACTS. I wish square enix would’ve realized this more. Rebirth has so much fluff and it drives me crazy lol.

Bro is lowkey dropping sage level bars in the comment section! Insane!!

Bro that is a crazy thought. Unfortunately it’s probably true…
WE RIOT!!!!!

Very true! The part of me that’s ok with Astro winning is thinking that same thing!

Did you feel like you already played it because of Astro Bots Playroom?
Kinda! But Astro Bot was definitely waaaayyyy better than playroom!
Astrobot rescue mission is a better comparison. It's basically Astrobot, but in VR, and it is bloody fantastic.
Goty this year was a joke
Bro how? Astro Bot was literally perfect
@@TheCollective1 I know is good but there was better games this year ... FF7 Rebirth should win and Stellar Blade was not even nominee...absurd
Rebirth just had too much bloat. Astro was start to finish fun! And yeah I’d agree with Stellar blade lol
Maybe yes ...but even Metaphor was better and deserve to win
Agree to agree but slightly disagree. 🤣🤣🤣
Same
ZAAAAAAAAANG
Astro bot fully deserved The win hands down The other games didn't even come close to Astro bot
I wouldn’t go that far but I definitely agree that it was well deserved.
