If I could make a suggestion: play Echoes. Don’t wait for the remaster. Three reasons. It might not even be a remaster, it could just be an upres/wide screen port. If it is a remaster, seeing the differences is always a good time. Most importantly, it’s one of the few games that’s better the second play. Things aren’t as frustrating, mechanics make more sense, the world is more immersive because the goal isn’t to beat it. It becomes more of an experience and Echoes is a game made to be experienced and explored, instead of “just get to the end”

What a nice wholesome video to listen to on my drive over to my relative's house on Christmas day. I never owned a GameCube growing up but I had a great time collecting a bunch of first-party titles back in high school before they skyrocketed in price, such as F-Zero GX, Kirby Air Ride, and Metroid Prime. am i detecting some JRPG bias me being not the biggest fan of JRPGs, (i like them, but they havent blown me away in quite a while since they generally dont evolve much) the two best games I played this year were Helldivers 2 and Dragon Age Veilguard. I did play and love Astro Bot, it just is not my personal choice for GotY, and I'm fine with that. We all have our preferences. When you read off the list of GotY award winners so far, there is some rich diversity there, so its all good!

I platinumed both Metaphor and Astrobot, finished Rebirth as well. I'm bouncing between Metaphor and Astrobot on my personal game of the year. I think Astrobot will take the cake as it's the most fun I've had gaming this year. Gaming is supposed to be about fun. Rebirth was fine, but as I get further from it, both Metaphor and Infinite Weatlh were better RPGs this year.

Astro bot was just the better and more memorable game. Its probably the one game where the haptic feedback actually works.

Gaming is suppose to be about fun that everyone can get in to from kids to adults! Astro bot was that game. Final fantasy 7 rebirth has too much bloat in it "Even the devs acknowledged it" I dont want to play multiple mini games just to progress.

You wanna know something funny? Astro Bot probably wouldn’t be a contender this year if Sony didn’t abandoned 80% of their licensed games. Other than that, Astro Bot is one of those games where Simplicity is all you need for a great game. It’s not story driven nor super action packed, it’s just fun.

But it doesnt feel wrong simply because astro bot didnt follow industry formula like its competitors Like Bauldrs gate 3, Elden ring, It takes 2 and even Last of Us 2 (regrettably) What astro bot does is acknowledge and respect the games that Playstation surrounded and sadly abandoned. It also gives other platformers a chance in the spotlight.

At 6mins in you talk about being programmed to accept AAA as the standard for winning GOTY. Funny thing to note Astro Bot is a AAA game, but also Baldurs Gate 3 was not (this is just a reference for a AA game that feels AAA). Not only were you tricked by your feeling but also the profile of the game good sir. I do agree though I find it hard to understand why Astro Bot won. However it simply is not my type of game infact I am in the (very small) camp still coping that Helldivers 2 was torn down by PS and thinks it could have had a fair shot.

I'll admit, I haven't played the other nominees besides Astro Bot and...nor do I really plan to. But Astro Bot, for me, is an unforgettable experience from start to finish that appeals to not only kids but to anyone/everyone. Studios really should take a lesson and try to make more family appealing games so that everyone can matter. That's not to say that more mature games like Black Myth: Wukong or Metaphor: Refantazio shouldn't be nominated, let alone win a game award, but I feel like games also need an appeal to kids alongside older adults. In my eyes, because Team Asobi treated their developers and audiences in mind with Astro Bot, and put them and the fun in the game first from money, sales, etc. I feel like it more than deserves Game of the Year.

I'm so sick of people putting comments in on PSVR2 videos about the PSVR2 not having any games, or limited first party support, or it's only got ports from other systems, or too much bloatware etc. etc. etc. without the slightest idea what they're actually talking about. Is Sony's support/marketing etc. for the PSVR2 bad?....... by most measures yes....they don't seem to want to say much at all about anything they are or aren't doing with the system. Was I extremely angry at Sony for not doing backwards compatibility with PSVR1 games?........having a library of over 80 PSVR1 games, you're damn right I was angry (I'm still missing some of the games - squadrons, farpoint, borderlands, dirt rally). Am I happy with the PSVR2 and it's software library after a year and 10 months on the market?.............absolutely. Over 200 titles on the store and more coming every month is nothing short of incredible. Are there lemons in there?.......of course there are.....there isn't a gaming system in history that hasn't had lemons in their software catalogue (I should know, I've been a serious gamer since the 80's and I first played VR in the early 90's..........don't believe VR is that old?...look up Virtuality). There are some amazing titles in the catalogue. In a lot of cases it doesn't matter whether they are full VR games, or add-ons/hybrids....it's the experience that counts. I really don't get the snobbery on that particular point......I thought it was almost worth the price of the headset just for GT7 (it definitely is at the current price) and that's a free add-on. Hybrid games are the most likely source of high quality VR games (example Resident evil) going forward, as VR is still a niche relatively small market (a big reason why headset exclusives are not common and not really a good idea). That said I would recommend Synapse to anyone - it's potentially the best utilisation of the PSVR2 features so far. One of the most financially successful 'VR only' titles so far is Walking dead Saints & sinners, Why?.......because it's a great game and it's available across all formats. The PSVR2 isn't perfect, but for the money, it's an amazing piece of hardware. Anyone with a genuine interest in VR wants all headsets to do as well as possible, otherwise the market remains small and the money isn't invested in the software.
