I used to fish these with my grandfather back in the day (late 70's thru late 80's). Before he passed he gave me a box of probably over a 1000 of them. All different sizes and colors. Some were Styrofoam like corkies, while others were hard, translucent plastic. If I remember correctly the originals were the hard, translucent, 2-piece ones and the top and bottom were actually glued together. I still like to use them sometimes but sadly I'm running low on the old school ones but somedays when fishing is slow I will still pull one out and use it. And sometimes I still catch a steelhead on them. Cheers from a Tillamook native.
About a month and a half ago while fishing, a fellow steelhead fisherman happened to give me a few of these to try. The guy only had a gallon bag of them.... lol. He said they were the new hot ticket. Since I drift fish beads a lot not under floats I gave them a shot. I have hooked 3 or 4 fish on them in the times I ran them. I only had 2 samples to try. But they are effective.
That's pretty cute how you guys try to Market in its a new secret stealhead lure LOL Northwest old steelhead dogs know what's up. I still have a whole bunch of Originals. Good video though hats off to you guys
They are neutrally buoyancy soft baits. We may make a super float version in the future but from all of our testing our currently plastisol mixture fished extremely well both drift fished as well as under a float.
🤣 those are not new...those have been around for ages...maybe a new variety of them but an old concept..and I know they work cause I use to use them back in the day 😁 nice to see old tips and tricks making a come back 🤘
I don’t understand the benefit of using a sinker slide, when float fishing..it seems to me that the weight of the sinker is going to ride down hard on the swivel when a Steelhead takes the bead, cluster, jig or bait..so the idea of the line sliding freely thru the sinker slide when a fish bites, and the fish not feeling resistance can’t be the case
It’s more for when the fish are shaking their head and doing cartwheels. The sliding weight allows it to move freely up and down the line helping keep fish from breaking the leader. When you have a fixed weight and the fish gets close to the bank their head shakes can cause the weight to put a lot of pressure on your leader.
@@ElevatedFishing definitely and that river restoration they done has greatly enhanced that river. In fact this afternoon a CHROME CHINOOK WAS CAUGHT A WARDEN HELD THAT GUY UP TO KEEP THE FISH SO A COUPLE BIOLOGISTS COULD GRAB SCALE SAMPLES OFF OF IT.. THEN THEY RELEASED IT PRETTY AWESOME..
What’s old is new again! Who else likes to fish egg clusters or was a fan of the original okie drifter or gooey bobs?
Ol Bill used to talk about the " Nail Polish finish"
@@johnhobbs7697 Yes. We were sent some and copied them exactly. 👍
Clusters with spin n glos
I found about 50 okies at a garage sale 10 or so years ago, 10 cents apiece.😊 Once in a while, I break one out. Now I won't have to! Sweet!
That's a gooey Bob, the hard plastic version is a okie drifter. Yeah I'm old.

Nice godscent fishing just came out with the same thing they are calling acorns also a soft plastic okie drifter like these
Nice video 👍 nice bobber set up. Are you fishing them a foot off the bottom or bobber dogging them
Mostly a little suspended off the bottom. Sometimes dragging a little depending on the run.
What size are you guys fishing in this video??
We were using size #2 and #3 because the water was a little lower and clear.
19mm??
@@ryanleonnig9894 14.5mm and 16.5mm
Awesome
Are these coastal rivers up inland :) love your videos btw
Hey guys, what size are the okies that are used in this video. What is your best color. Want to order some

Maybe a little click bait. 😁. It’s a new, old school lure.
Great product is it available in stores?
Currently it’s available on our website below. We may bring it into stores in the future.

Nice fish guys. What brand center pin reel and size?
Kingpin R2 5.25”
Yo elevated I just ordered some 👍
When will those be available

If you're smart you'll make soft jelly type. Homemade trick steelhead love them. It's like making salmon candy
These are a soft bait version.
Is there different buoyancy levels?
They are neutrally buoyancy soft baits. We may make a super float version in the future but from all of our testing our currently plastisol mixture fished extremely well both drift fished as well as under a float.
wich fishing rod you use
We use custom built Stryker fishing rods. 👍
What size of cluster were you using that day?
We were using #2 mostly as the water was a little low.
Just ordered some! Great color selection
If you’ve been steelheading for more than five years you would know these are not new.😮
They look just like atlas Mike's sack attack that have been around for years.
Completely different shape. These are like the old school okie drifters of the 60’s.
What raft are you running there?
It’s a custom built frame on a star raft.
🤣 those are not new...those have been around for ages...maybe a new variety of them but an old concept..and I know they work cause I use to use them back in the day 😁 nice to see old tips and tricks making a come back 🤘
New and old at the same time. 😁👍
Do be a Karen

Beads just as effective
Maybe. 😁 We use both at the same time.
😂😂😂😂
On the lighter side south of your border! The AMERICAN RIVER HAS SOOO Many steelhead 12-16 lbs i believe its the new HOT RIVER TO FISH.
I used to live in Chico. Saw a bunch of guys catching fish down there. It’s been a long time since it’s been good.

You guys need a dedicated filmmaker. It’s kinda hard to watch this with the video angles and cameras in all the shots. Just my 2 cents
Uhm unless you live in Washington state. You don't live in the Pacific Northwest. Don't claim you do.
I guess Oregon is to far south? 😂
Really since when is only Washington state considered the PNW?? You sound like a real tool bag that’s for sure
Alaska could say the same thing and come out the winner if we are playing by your rules eh?
secret? we used those for years in late 90s early 2000s.
Absolutely. However they haven’t been manufactured in over 30 years. What’s old is new again. 😁👍
