I had a request to learn this song and then I heard from quite a few people on my Facebook music page that wanted to hear it too so I spent a few weeks working on this song to get you a really nice completed version of it. Hope you like it. Pass it on if you do. Thanks.
oh Ted i am totally hooked on your music. I too had a santoor to play with when i lived in Iran. Don't have it any more since I moved to states and man, you make me miss having it around
ted, all i can really say is how envious i am of you, i have listened this song over and over, and wish i could learn it myself to play it at my daughters wedding next year - i am not a man of means, and the gifts i give to people i care for are some part of me; poems, paintings - playing this song in person would be a level of amazing i can only hope to achieve. your talent is really an awesome thing to witness.
As a child, I spent a lot of time on the inside of a piano, plucking the strings and loving the harmony. This is as good as it gets. Love to have one of these today. Its a new discovery,
A true talent you have sir. The sounds you produce are amazing. I'm hooked, I've shared your work with several friends, drummers, guitarist, flutists etc etc and we are simply amazed. I would like to thank you for sharing your amazing sounds with people all over. Keep up the brilliant work...we love it!!! Hot Springs Ar
Thank you Amelie. That's a high compliment. Let me know if you have questions about buying one. I sell them and I want to help you get a good one. You can email me from my website. www.tedyoder.com
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it. This song is on my new album so if you want to preorder it you can go to my website www.tedyoder.com. Take care.
Thanks cuz. Good to hear from you. Boy have you grown any older at all? I know I've grown older but you've stayed right around 22. ;) Hope you're doing well bro.
Matt, was it you that sent me the message about putting your girls to sleep and then mentioned this song? If it was you, I posted your message to me about putting your girls to sleep to my music on Facebook and then mentioned your request for Scarborough Fair and my page lit up with other people wanting to hear this song too. So thanks for the suggestion. I love when people want to hear something with this much enthusiasm.
Oh man, I hope Simon and/or Garfunkel sees this and tells you you're a fool for suggesting they'd disapprove! :) I'm self-taught on the hammered dulcimer, and have a few videos but I'm so messy compared to your crystal-clear playing! Beautiful job, Ted!
Horns of Pan Thank you so much. :) I'm a bit of self deprecating artists so it's hard for me to think folks will like my arrangements as much as I enjoy creating them. So thank you for the vote of confidence. I think I've seen a few of your videos. I'll have to go check them out again. Keep at it. It's all about the music and so little about us.
Stunning! 30 years ago we lived in Elkhart. This morning I quite randomly stumble upon this beautiful gem coming from Goshen - and I am in my kitchen in England :-) Internet magic. So glad I'm found you across the miles. Any chance this is on a CD?
Very, very nicely done. Yes, an excellent rendition. And I would second the request for Road to Zion. I think it would transfer really well to HD. Not to mention, since it is a number of years old, you could really make it your own without comparisons. Always a good thing. :-)
+Ted Yoder Hey Ted at it again! Keep it up I bet if he was alive you would make Beetoven jealous. Your a great musician ones who don't claim their good are the best of all.
This is a fantastic arrangement. Thank you very much for playing and posting this. I have always been mesmerized by the sound of the hammer dulcimer. I'm slowly working on a version of this song myself. As there are so many covers, I need to get it right. I would very much appreciate being able to sample your performance in my own work, crediting you accordingly of course. Please let me know if this is acceptable. Thanks again for this cover. It's the kind of instrument that it should be played on.
Thank you very much. I have no problem if you use what I've done. I'm honored to be mimicked. :) Let me know if you need any help. You can email me from my website. www.tedyoder.com
Honestly I think Russell has done a few upgrades bit he's not too quick or fond about it. He had added an extra brace to the new models that mine doesn't have just to be safe. If you have a RCE I would call or email and ask one but I wouldn't guarantee any specific response. Russell's very kind and nice about things but he is careful. The extra range is really great though.
Well done then! I find I can do that a bit on the piano, but the non-linear scale configuration of these seems as though it would make that kind of thing more difficult. Do you agree? Also, I have never played an HD but have wanted to get one for years. Is a 16/15 a good start? What affordable ones would you recommend?
Yes I would start with at least a 16/15 or 15/14 size. If you go to my website and look under the store page, you'll see some hammered dulcimers for sale. That will give you an idea of what's out there and what I recommend. If you have any questions, just let me know. www.TedYoder.com/store
Happy Birthday!~! That was AWESOME!! I loved it so much! I just have one question.... What made this hammered dulcimer sound so much deeper in tone than others? Is it the type of wood that it is made from? Did you have an electronic device to help the sound for the making of this film? Or is it a higher quality of hammered dulcimer? Thank you so much!!
I'm sorry I'm just getting to answering you. Missed it. No electronics involved. It's a mahogany too and higher quality build. Also there's just more range on this model than most you've heard. This one is 4.5 octaves and the standard model is 3.
I'm cursed with perfect pitch, and believe me it is a curse. Please could someone explain to me why I hear flat notes from the bass strokes from this magical musician.
The only time that I use sheet music to learn a song is usually on classical pieces. These pop songs, I usually figure it out myself or at least get the chord progression from some place on the web and then arrange from there.
I'd never heard of a Hammered Dulcimer until yesterday. Listening to Ted Yoder play is a wonderful musical gift and I'm grateful for it.
This is so incredibly nostalgic, I remember my mom humming this song to me for me to go to sleep when I was 4. This truly brought back memories.
what a truly captivating instrument, absolutely beautiful, reminds me of the beginning of the Silmarillion when the Ainur played music for Eru.
LOVELY like the song was written for a Dulcimer !

Ted Yoder im speechless.

My jaw just dropped, I love this song, and it sounds amazing on the dulcimer. What a beautiful melody.
I don't see how anyone could give this a thumbs down. This is some mesmerizing stuff.
Great job! More songs!
So beautiful.. and so light and airy.
As a child, I spent a lot of time on the inside of a piano, plucking the strings and loving the harmony. This is as good as it gets. Love to have one of these today. Its a new discovery,

I sent you a request for this song awhile back. Thanks so much. You certainly did this classic melody justice. It's just beautiful. Happy Birthday!

Nicely done! I'm liking the extra range of the XR. Can a RCE be modified into an XR?
Honestly I think Russell has done a few upgrades bit he's not too quick or fond about it. He had added an extra brace to the new models that mine doesn't have just to be safe. If you have a RCE I would call or email and ask one but I wouldn't guarantee any specific response. Russell's very kind and nice about things but he is careful. Can you play any bollywood song for me

Am I right in thinking you used the Simon & Garfunkle version as your base? That's some pretty complicated stuff there! Wow.
You are correct. It took me a little while to put it together and I haven’t played it since. 🤣
Hi Ted, I am wanting to learn this instrument in India. Please guide
You’re best bet would be to get a santoor over there in India. The US hammered dulcimers would cost too much to ship and import.
Hi Ted, Thanks very much. I shall get one, but Santoor do not give the kind of melody that a Dulcimer gives which is close to a Piano.
Thanks again.
hi ted,i would like you to play trully madly deeply.i love your music.
Sounds great! Do you ever use sheet music for these fan Friday videos or do you figure it out yourself?
The only time that I use sheet music to learn a song is usually on classical pieces. These pop songs, I usually figure it out myself or at least get the chord progression from some place on the web and then arrange from there.
maybe some Lindsey Sterling stuff also
Try adding rainymood.com in the background. 👌👌
are harmonics hard to play on HD?
+Christopher Pederson Not really. Some of them are in hard to reach places but it’s just practice.
Wots wiv the double vision film pish. High angle to see the magic of what he's doing would be more constructive and entertaining.
Sounds vaguely like something from a Ghibli film.
wrr
Who are the 14 idiots who don't like this??
Wonderful, I love the arrangement
+johnwboston Thank you sir.
