  • Maybe you’ve heard about a wonderful musical instrument called a hammered dulcimer - but have you ever heard one played? Ted Yoder is an expert player, and has a great story about how this old, traditional instrument gave him the rare opportunity to meet a genuine rock star. He played and shared the tale at TEDxDayton 2020. Ted Yoder is the perfect musician for the 21st century; his passionate playing style and easy-going personality make him a natural live and online star. Why? Because until you hear Ted Yoder, it’s impossible to imagine that one wooden stringed instrument can sound like an entire rock band or a whole symphony orchestra all in one. A national champion and sure virtuoso labeled, “The Bela Fleck of the hammered dulcimer”. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Had the pleasure of running sound for Ted at a local show here in Illinois about 5 years ago and after the gig he bought us all pizza and we hung around talking about star wars, music and life. Such a great guy. Ted, you are an inspiration!

3:55 In Ted Yoder’s own words… “In every venture and work of art, there are moments of doubt and moments of courage; there’s feast and famine, but we keep doing what we do and showing up day after day, because we hope beyond hope, that someday, someone will fall in love what we make. Today, I hope you find peace and joy in my music.”

I often wondered if you were inspired by Rich Mullins. Thanks for confirming - love your work.

I’ve watched this a few times and just realized he is barefoot! It’s just like the classic Evart performances.
