A great message at the right time. Support home industry and artisans. I am trying to use the internet to search for this stuff and stop chasing the cheap import to save a penny on slave manufactured goods. Sounds noble and is quite difficult to do when faced with the barrage of cheap imported goods. Anyway your choice people. Good man Simon. Take a stand and pass it on.
I totally agree with you James, cheap products cost what they do because production costs are low - low production cost ideally means poor working conditions and low pay for the workers. 😔
G'day Simon. That's what we should all want to see. Made in Australia, Made in the UK. Made in the USA. Bring our businesses home. Produce items that last a lifetime. Own products we can be proud of. Support the craftsman down the street, over the creek and leave the cheap copies in the department stores.! The land down under Mike 🤠
After watching this video, I purchased a box pouch from David Friars... What an amazingly well made piece of kit... I will be buying more for sure.... looks like he's reasonably local (within 30mins drive) so pleased to be supporting local traders. Good call Simon!!
Thanks for the overview Simon - there's definitely something very reassuring about using UK based manufacturers - I've had several items from Scott at Thornhill Ultra Heavy - mostly waxed canvas kit but he'll make to order too for very reasonable cost
Well I first watched this 2 years ago and have been lusting after a TJM Metalworks “pocket fire anchor” and the “original pan mini fire anchor” ever since!😩🤔. I’m very happy to say I’ve finally forked out for both, can’t wait to get to use it!😁🔥🔥 I’ve also had a titanium honey stove with the extension “hive”. That is absolutely brilliant, so light, it lives in my backpack permanently. With the extension, it is the perfect size for a campfire, I rarely have a fire on the ground nowadays, there’s no need and it’s so easy to clean up after with no ugly scar on the ground, I highly recommend it. I also have a firebox which I love but rarely take nowadays due to the weight, I’ve been on the lookout for a titanium one, but the one place that sold them no longer has any and I begrudge paying the ridiculous postal charges for one from America, so……☹️
I'm all about that British made now, If I ever want something I always check if there's a British made one. This video is a gold mine for me! Cheers nice work.
Fantastic Simon mate, my sentiments exactly. You know what your getting from local rather than waiting for a product for 6 weeks coming from overseas that falls apart after the first use.
Thanks Simon for another super helpful and informative post. So kind of you to post all the links to your products. I look forward to your next expedition and adventure.
The barbecue tool on firewood is so creative and excellent. That's a great idea. Overall, your video impresses me. Thank you. From South Korean RUclipsr Woongkham.💝💝💝👍👍👍
I love buying British where I can, even if it means saving for a little longer. And I love my Bridgedale socks, they are so comfy and warm and have lasted years!
Mike a yankee from Arkansas, j it at love your channel. Just got my TJM set in today, giving it a good burn now and ready to throw a stake on. Thanks for the plug.
Lovely video Simon and thank you for supporting small UK businesses, especially at the moment. I've got a few bits and pieces from your recommendations and never been disappointed by the kit. It's helpful to get honest feedback from someone who's used it regularly. Cheers mate. :)
Thanks for this video, i too agree we should be supporting our British businesses who make some wonderful great kit..... Much respect sir and great video.
Totally agree, whenever possible, support local craftspeople. The hand forged ironwork you demonstrated took me back to the states in the small New England town I lived in for many years. Gilmanton Iron Works New Hampshire (yes, the very same place Grace Metalious wrote Peyton place). Several proto-type machine shops were located there. One shop owner had a hobby of restoring Stanly Steamers. You can not run down to the local wrecking yard or car parts distributor for replacements. He collaborated with a gentlemen who was renting a complete blacksmith shop my neighbour had constructed to forge new front axels and then did the machining. Until the machinists death, they would fill orders for new axels that came in . The young fellow renting the shop created all manner of iron work. wall hooks, brackets for shelves and the list went on and on. He even forged a bolt handle for me when I was restoring an old rifle back to shooting condition.
Me thinks you wear that hat year round, but no one's judging! It's a nice topper! Give Mags a belly rub! I'm sure she's in desperate need of one. Thank for the new vid and shopping ideas.
Cheers Simon, we injoy you're videos, we has in myself and wife and 4 year old, she likes you're videos with Andy, and yourself and Maggie, sorry to hear her passing, look forward to more new videos.
My mini fire anchor (that I bought after seeing in your video ages ago) is single handed the best thing I use at camp to cook with. Zebra billy can hangs off it and I cook meat on the griddle or use my scandi fold pan also on it. Amazing quality. I will take a look at David’s bags for it as I want a pouch to keep the fire anchor in and also my scandi folding pan. Watching your videos is a great insight in to kit like this and seeing it used it great. Always nice to see genuine reviews first before purchasing goods.
@@jamesellsworth9673 great pan, single layer metal so have to be careful about placing on very hot coals as you will burn the food quick, but when you get the right heat, the pan is a great size and works brilliantly. folds for good storage and the handle is solid. Highly recommend them and also the mini fire anchor. great combo together
I'm in Canada, and I swear by my Karrimor SF Sabre 45! I also have Snugpak, Sealskinz, and hopefully one day, one of Simon's saws!!! You can't beat good British gear, and funny, it's often easier to get kit from there, than the States. Funny how most of the Canadian bushcraft companies are owned and operated by ex-Pats!!!! Cheers!
Mate, what a great video. Support your local and small businesses. I'm from San Diego, CA in the US and just read of 120 locally owned businesses that shut down this year. All my holiday shopping is gonna be from mom and pop shops. Thank you for a great vid Simon.
You missed one "Some geezer down the woods" or there abouts, makes Bucksaw's so rumour has it but only when it snows in July and Jupiter bumps into Uranus. I've got my name down for one but there's a 25 year waiting list. lol All the best Pete (hehehe)
Nice to see that you are plugging home grown talent. It would be good if you could do a plug for more home grown manufacturing even in your regular tv. Well done Simon, I’m all for buying homemade quality products 👍👍
Well said Simon. Agree with your recommendations as to the quality of the gear you've covered but did not know about Outhaus - giving them a look now as I'm in the market for a canvas swag for motorcycle camping. Always a pleasure when your content is notified. I've gotten particularly fond of the long lead in to your videos - by the time you start to speak I'm utterly relaxed - and as I've said to you before - find your content mentally medicinal. Keep 'em coming mate.
Top marks for plugging good quality British products. Way to many people in this country are all to content to accept an inferior overseas product just because its cheap. Quality counts, and will always pay you back on the long run.
