  • Jordan decided to put our Instant air fryers to the test and pit them against each other. Both cooked the same kind of chicken wings, for the same amount of time, and at the same temperature. See how they turned out and our thoughts on each air fryer!

    I enjoy your videos. We cook our wings in the Vortex on the tray for 20 minutes at 400 degrees and we do always preheat the oven. Around 12 minutes of cooking we turn them. Ours come out with very crispy skin and not over cooked inside. We've never cooked in the Omni but we love our Vortex.

    Thank you for this video. I just purchased an Omni Plus and I am learning it's nuances as it is not as cut and dry as it would appear. When you Air Fry, there needs to be circulation around the food (from what I've learned). By using the cooking pan you are restricting the heat of the bottom element airflow so the bottom element is heating the pan first then whatever residual heat there is gets transferred to the food. As far as cleanup. I line the bottom of the Crumb Tray with Heavy Duty aluminum foil to catch any drippings. But there is residue on the bottom heating element with which I used a Dobie cleaning pad to eliminate the majority any residue and or discoloration. I hope this helps.
    Keep up the great videos!

      Bob Bennicelli completely agree with you here. The bottom tray of the Omni is for roasting, baking or broiling. Not for air frying. For my wings I pressure cook them for 4 minutes then air fry them for 10-15 minutes, coat with sauce and air fry another 2 minutes. Fall off the bone and crisp.

      The bottom element is not on when air frying. Circulation isn't affected much by have the pan at the very bottom.

    Thanks for the comparison. I like to see how the two do in side by side tests. I have a few tips to share...I have never sprayed the trays or basket for the Vortex oven. I just soak the basket in Dawn and hot water (last to be washed after the dishes) and it comes clean with a vegetable or bottle brush. The trays have never been an issue to come clean, just wipe off the excess, then wash. Some people claim Pam (and some other brands) will ruin the non-stick trays because of the soy lethicin in it, but I have yet to find any info like that on Google searches, so I'm not sure that info is correct. There's no mention of that in the manual either. Better safe than sorry though so I bought one without that ingredient. It's easier to insert the basket in the Vortex with the lifter tool. After putting it in place, I gently bring the lifter tool back towards me to make sure both sides are secure. Also, the first time I used the basket, the lid was coming loose. I checked Instant Pot's website pics and also the pic on the box and it shows the lid on the other side. The rod is the same on both sides so it can be used either way though, but if you find your lid getting loose, try switching sides.

      Sue Marie I agree. The trays are already non-stick so there is no need to put oil on them. I’ve had burnt food on mine and they wash clean with a soft cloth and soap and water.

    Use the trays in the vortex. 25 minutes. Switch the trays mid way through. Put the wings that are on the bottom tray skin side down for the first half, then flip them skin side up before you move them to the top slot. And vice versa. Best wings you'll ever eat.

      That's how we did it originally. However, with kids and all we have going on, we like the ease of not having to fuse with it and let it roll through.
      Great pointers though!

    I can tell you that wings on both racks of the Vortex, I do 20 min at 375 on top and bottom, swap, another 20 min, then swap again, 5 min at 400, swap 5 more min. No Flipping required. Top and bottoms get plenty crispy!

Have also thrown in a frozen pizza and made a rotisserie chicken which both came out perfect. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on this.

    Spray the chicken with a light coating of oil. It will crisp up so much better. Also season with salt\pepper\etc for the best flavor, then toss at the end sauce.

    Can you please add a video...showing the inside of the omni ? Where is the fan? What is size of fan ? What are the top & bottom heating elements? Are they rods on both top & bottom? Or does the top have a coil element at top like the vortex (and all other basket air fryers) thanks

    I make wings in my vortex on the two trays and just flip them half way and then when done cook another couple minutes after sauced and they are crispy and juicy and the sauce gets glazed on them and I literally won’t share them with anyone lol. Not sure if I will ever use the basket for anything other than fries.

    Would you mind measuring the inside of the Omni Oven from top elements to bottom elements? I would like to be able to do bread in it but since bread rises as it cooks I need to know the limits/distance between the top and bottom elements.

    Are both of these operating at the same time on the same circuit? Where we want to set it up, we only have a 15 amp circuit and it has two light fixtures on the same switch. So wondering if it really draws the 1500 or higher wattage. Thank you, awesome channel name!

      That is how we would cook them before we got the Omni or used the basket. They cook great but you have to flip the wings half way through and if there are two trays you must rotate them halfway through as well.

    This is not an Apples to Apples comparison at all. 1. The skin on a 'wingette' (not to mention the texture) is COMPLETELY different than a 'drummette. Not a fair comparison. 2. You compared a basket cook to a tray cook. Not the same. 3. You crammed the basket on the Vortex Plus, so it never had a chance. Just my $.02.

    • @TheDrunkenButcher
      @TheDrunkenButcher  4 года назад

      When we put them on a tray, instead of the basket, we have to flip the chicken and rotate the trays half way through. Using the rotisserie basket cuts out the hassle of having to rotate food.

    How is it for making crispy frys

  • @dianehaniak5697
    @dianehaniak5697 3 года назад

    I don't think that was a fair enough evaluation. First of all...neither air fryer were pre heated. Secondly...all you had to do was cook the wings in the vortex longer and they would have been just as crispy. Especially when you had more chicken in the basket than on the tray. It would only make more sense to cook longer. Sorry just my opinion.

      We got one and we have a regular oven as we sometimes cook foods that require different baking temperatures. I have a small kitchen and the omni oven does 11 things so I dont need to get as multiple different appliances that take up alot of space.

    • @mattv4799
      @mattv4799 4 года назад +2

      The wattage alone makes it worth it for people that have regular ovens too. I live by myself and don’t want to heat my 5000w oven for 45 minutes to make a baked potato. Instead I can cook it in 30 minutes in the 1800w Omni plus. More efficient heating because it’s smaller and more concentrated.

      You should never wash chicken before cooking because it increases the risk of salmonella poisoning. The bacteria that you can wash away can and will splash everywhere. However, most of the bacteria cannot even be washed off. That is why you have to cook until 165 degree internal temperature.
