Never paid much attention to breast stroke because I can't swim it because my feet do not turn out. However, one of my lap pals, that is his stroke. One thing that stood out to me at the last Olympics was now much the stroke rate changed from swimmer. Some did long and strong strokes, and some had a much faster stroke rate. Some would also increase their stroke rate approaching the wall for the final touch. Some did, some didn't. Thing that was curious to me is some won with the short stroke, some won with the long stroke.

Great video! Would love some more info on the initial stroke after the pullout. I feel like bringing my hands in front of me again really slows me down, I get no power with that first breast stroke kick, and I have trouble knowing if I am close to the surface. Would also love a bucket turn tutorial for going from back to breast in the IM.

I don't think I could reduce my breaststroke by one breath every 25m! How do you get so much power to do this??

On your final turn it looked like your hands didnt touch simultaneously nor on the same level, is that legal in comp ?

The 21-year-old French, Leon Marchand, has got all the highest 'elite' level (I personally believe especially including the traditionally tricky Breaststroke), hence World Aquatics Championships 2023 a new world record 400 medley.

Is the kick meant to primarily maintain your body position or does it help you move forward too? Watching the tiles on the ground I can see barely any movement due to the kick alone.
I'm mostly a backstroke swimmer and have recently taken up coaching to improve my freestyle. Want to learn breast stroke too but it's so difficult and movement is comparatively much shower for a beginner like me compared to freestyle and back stroke

Breaststroke is extremely kick driven. The legs generate the majority of forward momentum in breast. The half pull and shrug is mainly to get into the breath and get the body in position to lunge forward into a long glide and streamline position. Then the legs kick and the streamlined arms cut through the water so that the kick power is maximized.

It is not less strokes, it is fewer strokes. Use proper grammar, please.
Also, the video goes too fast. Cannot really follow all the steps.
