  • The Team drug the car out to Moab for some seat time and some final bashing on the mostly stock setup. We had a blast finding some new weak points on the car and we are ready to get to building on some stronger components and some major changes!
    The Sherpa Motorsports crew building their 4628 Ultra4 Spec Racecar from start to finish to race in King of the Hammers and many other races across the US. We are hoping to show others that you can get into Off-road racing with a little investment and lots of blood, sweat, and tears. Follow along as we make this dream of ours a reality.

    Nice shake down vid! You gotta break it to see what it can handle at KOH. The rear diff actually did better than I thought it would. Basically the same diff as a 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen 4runner. All the weight and torque of the 4th gen is tough on them. I have plans for Nitro 4:56s on my 03'.
    Tacoma's were gettin it done, and the 3rd gen T4R proves why it's one the most durable, capable and versatile trucks in off road history. You guys look like a really fun crew! Parting shots were hilarious!

      Yea. The rear diff was certainly not the weak point on this trip. Crazy the axle shaft gave out first.

    You need to lower your tire pressure.

  • @emanuelromo8198
    @emanuelromo8198 3 года назад +1

    You must deflate your tires the next time

    • @sherpamotorsports
      @sherpamotorsports  3 года назад +2

      We run our tires at race pressure. Helps avoid flats in racing and good practice when not racing.

    Interesting to watch and appreciate the test of forced destruction of the 4 Gen. I now have a good idea of what not to do. Note to viewers. Only to this with bunch of handy buddies with parts in middle of know where. 😝😝✅✅.

    What suspension setup are you running? Mid travel just uca with bolt on rears? Or do you have long travel extended uca and shock relocation? Also how much travel front and rear?

    • @arielsangoquiza3730
      @arielsangoquiza3730 3 года назад +1

      They’re running a custom setup in the rear, shock hoop with 16” shock I believe, for the front also custom, 8” Coil-Over with a custom shock hoop mount, and SPC upper control arms

    • @sherpamotorsports
      @sherpamotorsports  3 года назад

      @@arielsangoquiza3730 Pretty close. We run a very custom setup for stock arms. Its a 14" shock in the rear on a custom shock tower. In the front we also made a custom tower for the coilover and we run an 8" coilover. Each corner has a 2"x2" Hydro bump as well. Then the we do run SPC Upper arms to get our alignment back to spec having our lower control arm pushed forward for tire clearance.

    do you think the breakage was due to the stock components? (obviously the shock mount is different, but the tie rod and axle shaft) I've been wanting to take my 4th gen on 35s to Moab, but seeing this I'm wondering if I should take it easier.

    • @sherpaec
      @sherpaec 3 года назад +1

      We were pushing it hard when we broke it. If you wheel within your means you will not have any issues.

      @@sherpaec good deal! been wheeling Jeeps for 15 years and this is my first 4Runner build. I'm familiar with Moab, but never been in my 4runner. thanks for the info!

      OEM axles are actually one of the toughest but you don't want to to put anything stronger because something else will break if not an axle, such as diff, u-joints or worse. There should always be a weak point and it's better when it's cheapest.

    • @jcarls44

    Yeah idk why they made the tacoma and 4runner tie rods with different thread pitches. I first ran into this issue when I had tacoma tie rod extensions for my long travel kit and then had to go back and order 4runner tie rod extensions. SMH Toyota
