this is really inspiring for my 4th gen v6 I'm building. It'll be similar but I'm doing a supercharger and addicted offroad bumper and I'll be running 5.29s. Either way you got a nice setup keep it up.
I bought my '03 4x4 in '06. Even dead a$$ stock, with a center diff lock, the 4Runner is an amazing offroad companion. I've since upgraded the suspension, tires/wheels, UCA's, bumper/winch, sliders, rear diff lock. It is now almost unstoppable. You will not regret the purchase, my friend. So well made....so reliable.
sweet man. have you considered running your snorkel head facing back? I'm not sure it'll affect performance that much if the intake is sealed properly.

The best way to go about it is to actually relocate the body mount. I recently went to a -30 offset wheel and my tires rub on the mounts every once in a while. Granted, it only happens during hardcore wheeling.
Thank you! Its an ARB air locker. Check out Eaton e-lockers as well. They are cheaper because they don't require you to buy an air compressor to activate the locker. Both have their pros and cons.

When you installed the safari snorkel did you drill holes in the A-pillar for the bracket? I know some people don't, trying to decide when I install mine next weekend. Took 8 months for the snorkel to finally arrive due to being back ordered.
I've a 2005 4Runner Sport Edition V8. I've already installed Bilstein 5100 and 285 General MT. I'm wondering if the 488 gearing will still work for my setup? Also what brand did you installed for the regearing ?
I went with nitro gears. 4.88's are gonna be a tad bit too low for you. With 315's, my rpm's are around 2,500 at 65 mph which is about right. The pickup is nice but I think my gears would be too low for tires any smaller than 315's.

@@zman92630 I did a trip up to the mountains on stock gears with 35’s and got about 10mpg. When I installed gears, I did the same trip once the gears were broken in and got 13mpg up the windy roads. My mpg is optimal right around 65mpg. I’ve seen upwards of 15mpg. But around 75-80, my rpms are around 2,800-3,000 and mpg can drop to around 11
@@xtralnd That's really helpful, mate, thanks! Right now I'm running 33's and sticking with them. My mpg is 14-15 if I'm not hammering the throttle, 1mpg more if mostly highway at 65mph. Given my 275/70/17s, is the difference too small to invest in gears at this point? I do mostly streets and once/twice a month offroading. Thank you for your perspective!

However They definitely should help with larger tires and getting moving faster and keep RPMS much lower then running stock gears with large tires. From everyone I have spoken with its the most recommended mode. Sorry If that is some what vague.
Hello' im Newbie to this type of vehicle build I own a 2007 V6 4runner 4x2. Do you think it will be fine to go on trail? no rock crawling or anythings too aggressive? I lift 3 ins front and back with 265/70/17. I plan to upgrade the tire to 285/70/17. Do you think I need to chop the body mount? Last should i swap out my OEM UPC with icon UPC?
With a 3" lift you'll for sure want some upper control arms to help keep your alignment close to where it needs to be. You'll probably need a body mount chop as well to have the proper clearance. You'll be fine on most trails, just give it gas and use momentum haha
@@xtralnd well the front spring still oem. Should i replace with Oman springs like the rear? Never go to any overland or offroad before. This is just my first overland build but 2wd 😃
@@Lexus07GS if your front springs are OEM are you saying you are running 5100s in the front for the lift or spacers? It’s definitely better to run springs for the added lift in the front if your going to off-road with it. A good set of tires will get you a long way with these in 2wd. That and some momentum. You also can always add a rear locker to the 2wd and that will help out a whole bunch more.
Specs on the drop down tables attached to your swing arms? I have the same rig but didn't see a table option on the website? I'm assuming you built them? Thanks bro.
I actually just talked to Luke at 4x4 labs about doing some custom tables. I'm not a fabricator myself so I wouldn't have been able to take on that task haha

You’re going to want to get that rear Panhard bar level again with a PCK (Panhard Correction Kit). It really helps with weight distribution over the rear axle after a lift on our rigs. Lovin’ it though brother. 🤙👊

Thanks! I actually have. I’m going to be selling my current rack and rtt and going with some robust, low profile crossbars to mount a brand new tent. Prinsu’s aren’t bad, its just not for me.
@@xtralnd damn that's unfortunate to hear about the Prinsu. i can't find a decent full length rack for 4th gen that's easy to obtain in BC Canada. I was sad that Rhinorack don't make backbone system for the 4th gen. I hear Sherpa Equipment Co does similar design to Prinsu but more robust

@@spencerroberts9815 The front bumper took a total of about 45 minutes for me to install, super easy! Just make sure you have a couple buddies or a hoist to lift it up while you bolt it down. The rear was a completely different story. I had my local, trusted shop install it due to the amount of work that goes into installing it.
I haven't visited Seattle in the 4runner before so it wasn't me. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a bunch of 4runners with similar counterparts out there though!

@@anonymous47873 These skids are long gone sitting in a junkyard these days so I forget. I believe they were 3mm so just under 1/8" though. They stood zero chance against the Rubicon trail. I suggest buying different skids.

I’ve heard that does a better job at keeping stuff out of your air filter but it looks pretty damn ugly backwards in my opinion haha

You got good taste man. I have a 5th gen with 4x4 Labs rear bumper, Bronze SCS F5's and Dobinsons rear springs with Icons. Wish I had the V8 tho :(
Sounds pretty similar! The V8 definitely starts to outshine the v6 once you start adding a bunch of weight onto the rig!

So whether v6 or v8...these generations of 4runners their 4wd system is full time? No 2wd mode?
They have a 2 wheel drive mode. Mine is a 2003.

@@wanderlustdetailer If you want full time 4wd, get a V8. The v6 can switch between 2wd and 4wd. The V8 can never be switched to 2wd.

After talking with Nitro gear they recommend 4.88's for the V6 as well. So stoked to drive ours in a few months with the gears in there.
Gears make all the difference! Saves you some drivetrain stress too
Is there an effect on mpg, top speed etc with 4.88 gears or just optimal crawlability? I'm pretty ignorant in the gearing/ratios category. Thanks!

Luck had no part in this build. I spent 6 whole months scanning the market for my 4runner. I bought my 4runner within 40 minutes of the ad being up!

When you get a new skid plate ill buy your old one if you haven't already gotten a new one.
