  • With the release of the brand new Jeep Gladiator, it brings back the memories of the Hummer H3T. Many haven't even heard of this truck, but it existed. It was a truck version of the Hummer H3, like the Jeep Gladiator is a truck version of the Wrangler. Being released 10 years later, let's see if the Gladiator is 10 years better!

I love this review! Excellent job! Just a note, the H3T comes in an Alpha trim with the 5.3L and the standard trim with a 3.7L inline 5 cylinder that produced 291HP and 277 Tq. Personally, I would rather have an H3t Alpha than a Gladiator, you can take the doors off and open the sunroof to get that topless Jeep feel. You can add suspension upgrades, the OEM Rancho lift kit and other aftermarket parts to the hummer to beat out the Gladiator as well. One of the key points, I didn't see in the video is the base gladiator is based on the JLU sport, so yes clearance and fording capability, but no locking diffs. To get stock locking diffs, you have to get the Gladiator Rubicon trim which is in the $50-70K range, so to get Sahara comfort, with Rubicon capability for under $30k is a steal. Lastly, you can use ZR2 parts in H3t's, Jeep's biggest draw is parts availability, but you can give an h3t a 2019 refresh by swapping out ZR2 components. Again, great video, keep up the good work!

What zr2 parts can you use on a h3t? The new Colorado shares nothing with the h3t. The h3t also doesn’t have the best suspension set up either

@@nickm6670 interesting. The h3t has a torsion bar front independent suspension which is what would keep me from buying it for an off road vehicle

You know I hear that argument a lot, but mostly from folks who will never take their $50k+ offroader on any trail technical enough for it to matter. Not directing that comment at you personally, since we don't know eachother. I am just saying the internet has a bunch of diehards who live by these rules that were set forth by people who have money or sponsorships for the parts they swear by. Advancements in vehicle technology have mitigated a number of risks that long established "4x4 laws" caution against.
For example you can't take IFS offroad, the LandCruiser and LX 470 and 570 have torsion IFS as do the 4 Runner and Tacoma. Those all seem pretty capable offroad. The New TRX, the Raptor etc all have IFS, granted they are desert runners, not rock crawlers. Without buying something in the HD range your options are a wrangler or a gladiator from the factory. I believe the wranglers and the gladiators still have Dana 44's or smaller underneath. For the same price you would pay to upgrade your axles to elite rock crawler status, you can SAS an IFS rig with a bigger motor. I would personally prefer a LS 5.3 based midsized truck like the h3 Alpha or the H3T Alpha cause they are in the $18-24k range which means I can afford to take them to Moab and trailer the pieces back. I want to be able to lift it and add the offroad goodies, but still be able to keep up with traffic on the highways.
As of now, my best options are K5 blazer or Jimmy, a FS Bronco, the H3T/H3 Alpha, the new 392 Wrangler and hopefully 392 Gladiator. I doubt I can afford the new jeeps for anything other than a daily driver/ family rig. Though, I am thinking my next project will be getting a fiberglass humvee H1 body and dropping it onto a PW chassis like the Suburban Gorrilla.

H3T Hands Down. Also, the H3T has the optional V8, which will probably never happen in a stock gladiator. I bought an H3T while waiting for the Gladiator to come out. And now I dont need a Gladiator. H3T is everything and more

50's will fit on the H3T with no mods giving it ample clearance. My base H3T has trailered my 68 GTO many times with no issues. The base 5 cyl is underrated. H3T is all around great 4X4.

The Alpha H3Ts are about $27-$31k. The 5 cyl models are $25k-ish.
The Galdiator's transmission is probably its biggest advantage. The H3 only has a 4 speed auto.

The H3T Alpha trims are pretty rare to see on the road. There weren't many made with that trim. GM also made an H3T with a 5 speed manual transmission. Only 99 of those were ever made and my neighbor happens to own one of them in black. He made a video about it on RUclips.

The Frame on the H3 won’t Break or bend like the Gladiator. Tow all the trailers you want off road and you won’t bend the frame. No death wobble.
