  • The Pontiac G8 was a sedan made from 2008-2009. The GT was the "mid" level trim which sported a 6.0 V8! These GT models are very desirable and lots of people love them, including myself. But why is that? Watch the video to find out!

    I bought a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT brand new in 2009 and still have it in 2023 and will never let go. In 2019 I added a Magnuson Supercharger, Stage 3 Cam, E85 Conversion with dual fuel pumps and Bosch high flow fuel injectors, Methanol Injection, DOD delete, headers, Stainless Works 3" exhaust with X pipe and a Roto Fab Cold Air Intake. It was Dyno Tuned and makes 715 hp on 12 lbs of boost and 650 ft.lb. torque. It has just turned 85,000 miles. It is white and looks like the G8 in this video! It is sadly the last great high performance Pontiac. I feel GM made a bad mistake when they axed the Pontiac Brand!

    My '09 G8 GT just turned over 170,000 hard-driven miles. I love it as much today as when I bought it with 20k on the clock. To date, the only maintenance and issues have been struts/shocks, replacement leather front seat covers, and new transmission shift solenoids about 5k miles ago. As far as mods, the DOD lifters failed at 130k miles, so I installed a Brian Tooley Racing Stage 1 cam/DOD delete kit w/LS7 lifters, CompCam valve springs, a new water pump, and had a valve job done. Power jumped to 400 hp at the rear wheels with stock exhaust. We will keep and drive this car as long as possible. I think it is one of the best looking cars ever made. It is comfortable, roomy, practical, puts a smile on our face every time we get inside. Long live the mighty G8 GT!

      I miss my ‘08 G8 GT I also had lifter tick issues so I did a DoD delete cam, JBA headers, vararam intake etc I used to love walking out to it in a parking lot, it’s a better looking BMW 550i, the GXP is what the M5 of that era should have been. The stance on the car is perfect w/ the 19”s, comfy huge interior, probably my fav DD of all time & I pack on miles in sales….& I’m on my 3rd F150 Raptor….i only mention that b/c like I said- the G8 GT is still one of if not my fav DD I’ve owned all time, & obviously Raptors are solid dailys!!!!

    I truly miss mine. Had it for over 6yrs and gave ABSOLUTELY NO mechanical problems what so ever!! Only thing I worry about these cars are the OEM parts availability. A couple of years ago one of my friends got a front end accident (Deer) and the collision shop said that they were gonna total loss his car because parts were not readily available. He ended up buying the front end from EBAY cuz the shop does not do that kind of transaction and had the insurance reimbursed him. All in all, the car was fixed but he ended up getting rid of it cuz after what he had to deal with. He was afraid of getting into another misshap and find himself going through the same headache.

    Very nice review man, you’ve earned a sub. One thing I wanted to point out was the reliability, with the GT’s you’re getting an L76 which is most closely related to an LS2, however the L76 comes with DOD which shuts off 4 cylinders to save gas. The DOD lifters are known to fail and cause some damage, I would know cause it happened to mine. So, for anyone looking at getting a G8 GT, if it still has the stock lifters I would do a DOD delete asap.
    Regardless I still love the car, mine as a 6.2L LS3 crate motor in it and it rips. Plan on owning this thing until the wheels fall off.

    • @d.a.s.3921
      @d.a.s.3921 8 месяцев назад +1

      l76 is a blend of ls2 , ls3, .top end /bottom end.

    It's my exact car besides mine being a 2008. I added a corsa exhaust, kooks mid-length headers and a dyno tune on mine within the first year and a half. Absolutely a beast of a 4dr roomy sedan that sounded better than anything I came across on the road at that time. I wish I still had it now, but I doubt it would have made into 2023 without a lot of mechanical upgrades due to time catching up on vehicles.

    Picking up my G8 GT today with 240k miles, yep you read that right. It was used as a company car and has every service and repair record since new. It has only ever seen the GM dealership for any work that’s ever been done to it. Same exact spec as this one only without the sunroof which I’m more than okay with

    Sorry, a 2002 Saab had more advanced technology than this car. Heated/power seats, heated mirrors, turbo, rear back up sensors, .wiper sensors, self level head lights, ... So no....the g8 wasnt that advanced in 2009.

      I traded a 2002 95 Aero in on the 2009 G8 GXP and while the Saab had a very advanced feature set, I love my GXP which is still in the garage. Similar to the Saab, it seats 4 very comfortably with a big trunk. However, the GXP can smoke a mustang GT with 4 fat old guys and their golf clubs in the trunk. The Aero would hang in there pretty well, but not like the GXP. Both cars will be recognized as innovative classics in their own right as we proceed towards electric appliances with wheels.
