Here is my take on this issue as I have been interested in this discussion. I believe the following areas can help us greatly push the discussion forward. This is a long comment and I have been carrying these thoughts in my mind. Please keep in mind I am still learning, like all of us are. 1. Exploration of our history Pakistan's history is rich in folklores, mythologies, personalities and wars. When we go deeper into our history, we will learn that people of different religions have called Pakistan home for millennia, it's people have considered Indus River of religious significance (EG: Udero Lal story), people have conceived stories which became so widespread that they became mythologies. Studying contributions of personalities of the past leads us to believe that this land has been a mixture of ideas which have expressed themselves in various forms. For example, Lahore gave birth to Ustad Ahmad Lahori who was recognised for his architectural talent and went on to design the Taj Mahal in Agra and Lal Qila in Delhi. By looking into the names our cities we can discover that not only have people of other faith held strong connection to this land but many places are named after historical rulers who once held power over the land. Village of Mangla is named after Queen Mangaldevi and Muzaffarabad is named after the last Afghan governor of Multan during the Durrani Empire. Re-exploring our past will determine who we are. What our people have been historically like. What has this part of the land been known for around the world. 2. Languages If you want to erase an identity, make the people sideline their own language. As someone from North Punjab, I have seen a rising trend among middle class and above families who do not transfer the richness of Punjabi language to the current generation and as a result they become hesitant speaking Punjabi in fear of being perceived as poor and uncivilised. Some even prefer to speak English instead of Urdu which not only throws the chances of establishing a Punjabi identity, but also a broader Pakistani identity. Ever since independence, nobody has allowed the native languages much older than Urdu to interact in a new environment to form a new Pakistani identity. If you never allowed the full expression of native cultures and languages in the public sphere, then is it really a surprise that we have been subject to divisions along ethnic lines? Punjab, the most populous province, doesn't own up to its own language and Punjabi communication is not allowed in Punjab govt either. The little ownership that Sindh has taken over Sindhi is limited only to Sindh and there is zero federal framework so that learning and speaking Sindhi is economically viable in the country. In countries like Switzerland, a Swiss can pursue PhD in Sciences in his/her own language because the Swiss govt recognises the linguistic diversity and creates a pathway for them to ascend the economic ladder without forgoing their language. Pakistan must own up to its languages without hindrance so that the speakers are able to ascend the economic ladder without their native-language hindering them. 3. Choosing your own heroes. The biggest L I have with the Single-National Curriculum introduced by PTI was that the federal govt began choosing the heroes of the people they govern. For the Baloch people, it is up to them who they look up to. Who's stories they pass on to their children. I am strongly against the idea that somebody sitting a 1000km away in Islamabad has greater power over choosing the heroes of the Baloch people (not just Baloch. you can insert any identity). Let the people learn history and choose their heroes. Only then we can arrive at the discussion table more confident in ourselves so that we can discuss on a Pakistani identity. 4. Local Govt Given the diversity of our country, it is imperative that people's voices are allowed to be expressed where they reside. If a city wishes to govern itself in a stricter manner than the rest of the province, then the people's wish must be recognised and the political system must allow that city to govern itself the way it wants regardless of the higher authorities. In the US, the local govt system is strong. This can be seen by noticing how cities like Austin have control over their governance despite being under Texas and govt. Austin is the largest city which ended its parking mandate and now the city is experiencing its fruit. In a city as a big as Lahore, there are bound to be liberal and conservative neighbourhoods. Local govt system and power of the vote should allow these neighbourhoods to express themselves systematically.

Quaid e Azam had given us the ideology.. He said Quran is our constitution... Islam is the best ideology and I believe if there only one person alone Islam protects him, if Islam is implemented in its true spirit.
Here's my take. Pakistan is a diverse nation - and something we should celebrate. If you look at the UK, it's essentially 4 countries - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland - each with their own traditions, language and history - yet they are one unified nation. Pakistan should (and kind of does - but not entirely) follow a similar path. Let each area govern itself, apart from foreign relations. Secondly - we have too many people who come into power who feel their idea is the way forward, and impose their views. That's when things fail. Let the people decide via the ballot poll whether they want to be liberal or conservative, who they want as their leader etc. They will eventually learn to self-police. The problem is the constant interference.
Islam is the main reason behind Pakistan's failure. Almost no Islamic country is rich which doesn't have oil. As the oil is reducing in Saudi they are trying to become modern and reducing Islam. Iran was a happy and progressive country before Islam ruined it.

@ahsana.t.6264 I partially disagree with you in that we don't always have to look at other nations to decide how we should operate. I see we do that about every topic before discussing Pakistan even and its inherent characteristics and its foundation we bring some other irrelavent country to make our opinion, it stinks of complex we have been for a long long time and our new generation has that complex even more . Pakistan should be discussed as a unique country which it is and we should be proud of that like you said as well, I am not saying we can't discuss other countries at all, ofcourse while having discussion we can talk about qualities of some states but that should not kick start our discussion or a main part of it. I have a firm belief Pakistan's prosperity and progress lies in indigenous solutions . I hope you understand my point.

British wanted a dependable area after independence so they created Pakistan, they also were trying to create Dravidian state in south india but failed as they couldn't divide hindu but they could divide hindu muslim. They had tried that before in bengal in 1905 to divide it on religious lines ( same as Bangladesh )but it backfired . So in 1947 Pakistan was created so the united india dont have access to russia via Afghanistan as indian congress was very pro russia. Pakistan doesn't suffer much from identity crisis as much as from autocratic state institutions who don't serve people but self interests and interests of western powers. Pakistan would have been the next decimated Libya which was prospering now it is in ruins . This is why nato was residing in Afghanistan to keep pressure on all of south asia for decades though optics were they are fighting talibans alone. Pakistan has no allies and military is in no shape to go to war alone. Pakistan would have been obliterated by India and Nato if Pakistan hadn't sacrificed its prosperity and freedom and that's the trade off military made. Live to fight for another day.

Ideologies are important sure, but ideologies/constitution/laws can be changed/amended according to popular public support or need of the time. What our forefathers defined is not set in stone. Dynamics were different back then. We should keep evolving.
Foundations though can't be changed just like that, you can tweak certain things which are needed but if by that comment you are implying whole ideologies can be put into dustbin and start something new under the name of ' adjusting with time/ requirement of time' is an absolute disaster. instead of promoting that idea we first need to make sure our youth and young ones know the core ideology and why this country was created by our forefathers. We don't even have those discussion with our kids but we are ready to turn on our 70-80 years history, that will not bring any good

I absolutely agree with you on the "identity crisis.". I have been reviewing and studying the national and global economies, politics, and histories of the major countries globally after all the analyses. The conclusion I came across was the same as what you defined in the video, but much better than mine, as I am not good at explaining it. The whole nation of Pakistan is going through an identity crisis, and you can easily spot it in our day-to-day lives. We as a nation need to sit down to talk about the national identity and find common ground on it. Once we do that, we will be able to make better laws, policies, and decisions for the better future of Pakistan and move forward as a nation. Also, looking at the diversity of Pakistan, the only major common thing I could find is "Islam," so I believe Islam is the only thing that can unite us as a nation.

My answer to the question "Pakistan ka sab se barha masla kya hae" has consistently been that we need to promote and encourage the humanities. You are the very evidence of that Muzammil. People who think about the wider the issues of society ultimately define the course of their nations. The natural sciences in all their glory but there is a reason why the powers thst may be have encouraged them over the humanities. Thinking and questioning human beings is what Pakistan needs the most and yet is also the biggest threat to a status quo.

🎉 PAKISTAN should be further segreagted into 7-8 as individual states under the umbrella of Pakistan. These state should have their own laws, economy, taxation etc. like US and stop the federal control and interference in everything.
Well , I do agree with you tbh on the point in the sense that Pakistani provinces are way too large , they need to be further broken into more provinces and more control should be given to individual provinces to deal with their own issues, have their budget and laws etc

Thirdly madrasa need to be integrated with modern education of science, business and technology otherwise it shouldn't be allowed to operate. Pakistan needs the implementation of its constitution in letter and spirit where the powers are relegated to the smallest of units at the same time reforming its economy and charting a long term mandatory plan not affected by political changes within its borders. I think it is "Islam" 🕋 The reasoning behind it is that even the Liberals in Pakistan identify themselves as MUSLIMS. We don't have ATHEIST SECULARS like the ones in Western countries. I will disagree a bit here. I dont believe it is possible or even practical to aim for a concensus core belief. Neither is our environment conducive to any discussions and debate. Seems to me we will just waste a lot more time, fail to reach a central core. Instead, let us move forward with the common derivatives of each ideology. For example, all ideologies in the end want prosperity of its people so let us make that our north star. Meanwhile let democracy take its path, and let the people decide which way they want to go and everyone can present his ideologies to the public to decide. Yes these above statements seem like an ideology in itself, but it tries to circumvent that there needs to be a specific reason for prosperity. This is a philosophical question so I find many contradictions and question marks in my own thinking but this is a rough sketch.

I would like to add another dimension to your discourse. I think the ideology should be chosen based on the stage the nation is at and ideology should be allowed to evolve when the nation progresses. For example, I think China in its infancy did right using the communist conservative mindset to mature as a nation. But going forward I think China should evolve to democracy. The priority of the people now is not related to poverty but related to finer things in life which democracy is more apt for.

Here is my take on this issue as I have been interested in this discussion. I believe the following areas can help us greatly push the discussion forward. This is a long comment and I have been carrying these thoughts in my mind. Please keep in mind I am still learning, like all of us are.
1. Exploration of our history
Pakistan's history is rich in folklores, mythologies, personalities and wars. When we go deeper into our history, we will learn that people of different religions have called Pakistan home for millennia, it's people have considered Indus River of religious significance (EG: Udero Lal story), people have conceived stories which became so widespread that they became mythologies. Studying contributions of personalities of the past leads us to believe that this land has been a mixture of ideas which have expressed themselves in various forms. For example, Lahore gave birth to Ustad Ahmad Lahori who was recognised for his architectural talent and went on to design the Taj Mahal in Agra and Lal Qila in Delhi. By looking into the names our cities we can discover that not only have people of other faith held strong connection to this land but many places are named after historical rulers who once held power over the land. Village of Mangla is named after Queen Mangaldevi and Muzaffarabad is named after the last Afghan governor of Multan during the Durrani Empire.
Re-exploring our past will determine who we are. What our people have been historically like. What has this part of the land been known for around the world.
2. Languages
If you want to erase an identity, make the people sideline their own language. As someone from North Punjab, I have seen a rising trend among middle class and above families who do not transfer the richness of Punjabi language to the current generation and as a result they become hesitant speaking Punjabi in fear of being perceived as poor and uncivilised. Some even prefer to speak English instead of Urdu which not only throws the chances of establishing a Punjabi identity, but also a broader Pakistani identity.
Ever since independence, nobody has allowed the native languages much older than Urdu to interact in a new environment to form a new Pakistani identity. If you never allowed the full expression of native cultures and languages in the public sphere, then is it really a surprise that we have been subject to divisions along ethnic lines? Punjab, the most populous province, doesn't own up to its own language and Punjabi communication is not allowed in Punjab govt either. The little ownership that Sindh has taken over Sindhi is limited only to Sindh and there is zero federal framework so that learning and speaking Sindhi is economically viable in the country. In countries like Switzerland, a Swiss can pursue PhD in Sciences in his/her own language because the Swiss govt recognises the linguistic diversity and creates a pathway for them to ascend the economic ladder without forgoing their language.
Pakistan must own up to its languages without hindrance so that the speakers are able to ascend the economic ladder without their native-language hindering them.
3. Choosing your own heroes.
The biggest L I have with the Single-National Curriculum introduced by PTI was that the federal govt began choosing the heroes of the people they govern. For the Baloch people, it is up to them who they look up to. Who's stories they pass on to their children. I am strongly against the idea that somebody sitting a 1000km away in Islamabad has greater power over choosing the heroes of the Baloch people (not just Baloch. you can insert any identity).
Let the people learn history and choose their heroes. Only then we can arrive at the discussion table more confident in ourselves so that we can discuss on a Pakistani identity.
4. Local Govt
Given the diversity of our country, it is imperative that people's voices are allowed to be expressed where they reside. If a city wishes to govern itself in a stricter manner than the rest of the province, then the people's wish must be recognised and the political system must allow that city to govern itself the way it wants regardless of the higher authorities. In the US, the local govt system is strong. This can be seen by noticing how cities like Austin have control over their governance despite being under Texas and govt. Austin is the largest city which ended its parking mandate and now the city is experiencing its fruit.
In a city as a big as Lahore, there are bound to be liberal and conservative neighbourhoods. Local govt system and power of the vote should allow these neighbourhoods to express themselves systematically.

Here's my take. Pakistan is a diverse nation - and something we should celebrate. If you look at the UK, it's essentially 4 countries - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland - each with their own traditions, language and history - yet they are one unified nation. Pakistan should (and kind of does - but not entirely) follow a similar path. Let each area govern itself, apart from foreign relations.
Secondly - we have too many people who come into power who feel their idea is the way forward, and impose their views. That's when things fail. Let the people decide via the ballot poll whether they want to be liberal or conservative, who they want as their leader etc. They will eventually learn to self-police. The problem is the constant interference.
Islam is the main reason behind Pakistan's failure. Almost no Islamic country is rich which doesn't have oil. As the oil is reducing in Saudi they are trying to become modern and reducing Islam. Iran was a happy and progressive country before Islam ruined it.

British wanted a dependable area after independence so they created Pakistan, they also were trying to create Dravidian state in south india but failed as they couldn't divide hindu but they could divide hindu muslim. They had tried that before in bengal in 1905 to divide it on religious lines ( same as Bangladesh )but it backfired . So in 1947 Pakistan was created so the united india dont have access to russia via Afghanistan as indian congress was very pro russia. Pakistan was a artificial state with no ideology bas Pakistan ban naye phir dekhi jayegi. Wo dekhi jayegi me lag gaye . So best thing for Pakistan is accept who they are that is hindu , keep practicing islam as that is their current religion and merge Pakistan with india. Pakistan doesn't suffer much from identity crisis as much as from autocratic state institutions who don't serve people but self interests and interests of western powers. Pakistan would have been the next decimated Libya which was prospering now it is in ruins . This is why nato was residing in Afghanistan to keep pressure on all of south asia for decades though optics were they are fighting talibans alone. Pakistan has no allies and military is in no shape to go to war alone. Pakistan would have been obliterated by India and Nato if Pakistan hadn't sacrificed its prosperity and freedom and that's the trade off military made. Live to fight for another day.

Ideologies are important sure, but ideologies/constitution/laws can be changed/amended according to popular public support or need of the time. What our forefathers defined is not set in stone. Dynamics were different back then. We should keep evolving.
Foundations though can't be changed just like that, you can tweak certain things which are needed but if by that comment you are implying whole ideologies can be put into dustbin and start something new under the name of ' adjusting with time/ requirement of time' is an absolute disaster. instead of promoting that idea we first need to make sure our youth and young ones know the core ideology and why this country was created by our forefathers. We don't even have those discussion with our kids but we are ready to turn on our 70-80 years history, that will not bring any good

The conclusion I came across was the same as what you defined in the video, but much better than mine, as I am not good at explaining it. ✨ Pakistan was founded on confused theories and till date their is no policy, direction and vision. Sorry it has turned in to a failed country with bulging population and scarce resources.
If Pakistan need a future they need to fix schools, colleges, university on international well established examples. The youth of this country needs an excellent education and skills to have a future and country's future is linked with it.
Secondly public needs grooming, behavioural and ethical education to learn what are goods and bad and how to behave with manners.

Pakistan needs the implementation of its constitution in letter and spirit where the powers are relegated to the smallest of units at the same time reforming its economy and charting a long term mandatory plan not affected by political changes within its borders. I will disagree a bit here. I dont believe it is possible or even practical to aim for a concensus core belief. Neither is our environment conducive to any discussions and debate. Seems to me we will just waste a lot more time, fail to reach a central core. Instead, let us move forward with the common derivatives of each ideology. For example, all ideologies in the end want prosperity of its people so let us make that our north star. Meanwhile let democracy take its path, and let the people decide which way they want to go and everyone can present his ideologies to the public to decide. Yes these above statements seem like an ideology in itself, but it tries to circumvent that there needs to be a specific reason for prosperity. This is a philosophical question so I find many contradictions and question marks in my own thinking but this is a rough sketch.

I would like to add another dimension to your discourse. I think the ideology should be chosen based on the stage the nation is at and ideology should be allowed to evolve when the nation progresses. For example, I think China in its infancy did right using the communist conservative mindset to mature as a nation. But going forward I think China should evolve to democracy. The priority of the people now is not related to poverty but related to finer things in life which democracy is more apt for.

There was no Muslim league leader in the whole subcontinent who went to people asking for the vote of a liberal secular state for the Muslims of united India. People voted and died in millions for the separate Muslim state where they can have a distinguish identity and way of life from the Hindu majority (Two nations theory).
