The song was written by Astrid Lindgren and is from the movie Ronja Rövardotter - Ronja the robber's daughter. Which happens to be my favorite of Lindgren's stories. And Jonna nailed this one like she usually do.
I'm Swedish and my mom used to sing this song to me as a lullaby when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite ones and I remember asking her to sing it so many times. It's such a a good memory. She was the reason I started to sing, and when I took up busking, this was one of the songs I always had on my list of songs. It just means so much to me.
Aww... the memories from my childhood is overwhelming when this song is played! The original by Lena Nyman is always the best but Jonna is a great successor. Just a little update.. Astrid Lindgren who wrote this for the film Ronja the Robbers daughter (based on the book with the same name) is the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking :)
This version is beautiful but for me the original sung by Lena Nyman (the actress in the movie the song is from) is closer to my heart! She sounds more like a mother that really means every word of the song. But this version is very beautiful and magical!
I sang this to my daughter too when she was little. She’s 11 now and love ”Ronja - the Robber’s Daughter”. I really recommend you to find and watch it 🙂
My dad used to sing this song for me everynight, now I sing this for my own children, such an emotion and educating song! But I've changed a word or two 😂
Just like others have pointed out, this is not an old traditional lullaby. It´s only about 40 years old, but it is in the same spirit as really old Swedish lullabyes. I know several traditional lullabyes, and they are often sad and talks about hunger, herding sheeps in the mountains and dangers to beware of.
Heard this at some point as a child. Probably as a part of a childrens story but maybe at some point as a lullaby. Can confirm that the old traditional scandinavian/swedish folk songs and lullabys can be dark, melancholic and sad by todays standards. Guesstimating that life was harder back then and weaving in old wisdom into lullabys and such would teach/prepare kids from young age about reality of life. Cool reaction video! Cheers from Swe. Can also very much recommend "Hårgalåten". Chills!
Im swedish and i my grandmom sang this then i tried to sleep, i don´t have children, but i always sings this to who ever what to sleep...my girlfriend loves it, my niece, i even sang it to the school i work with....i usually sing it after i made breakfast to my school kids, im a chef from sweden so this is a tradition i try to give my fellow chefs :)
I used to sing this song for my Daughter when she was in the hospital with Leukemia and she was 2,5y old, every night before she fell a sleep, Now she is soon 15 so she dosent want me to sing for her again(my voice is NOT good so i cant blame her) and Jonnas version of this hits sooo hard ,, Much love from Sweden ,and i just found you channel today
My mother sang this to me when I was a child and I will sing it to my children so yes, it's very much a swedish lullaby. In Sweden most of us grew up with respect for the forrest and all who dwels in it, especially in night time. We're not scared but we have respect and this song really is a song to represent that.
I have heard this song several times and the more I hear it the more I like it! For me it becomes even more beautifull by listening to the words without having the english translations (as I am learning more and more of the norwegian language I can also understand this song better). I am also curious about if this song is being used as lullaby nowadays. I think I should try to put it on repeat next time I am having troubles falling asleep. I imagine it will work by focusing on the song!
I am realy happy the wolf is back to dutch nature not many sheep farmers are happy about that but i dont care because all creatures who once was should be back!!!!
Astrid Lindgren is still kicking ass. The special corps in the Ukraine is called the "Karlsson på taket" - specialists. Taken from her children books about Karlsson på taket(Karlsson on the roof). They are the tip of the spear over there and Karlsson had a propeller on his back, which is fitting for them.
Oftast används den idag när man pratar om gamla musik.. sem när jag var i förskolan för en 25 år sen sjöng den oftast under fredagens gång.. jag söng oftast till mina barn när dem var små..
The wolf howls in the night forest he wants to but can't sleep Hunger tears in his wolfish belly o it's cold in his stove You wolf you wolf, don't come here you'll never get my kid The wolf howls in the night forest howling with hunger and complaining But I want a pig's tail that fits wolves' bellies You wolf you wolf, don't come here you'll never get my kid Sleep my child in mother's bed Let the wolf howl in the night but I'm going to have a chicken skank if no one else has taken it You wolf you wolf didn't come here you'll never get the kid ooo kid you'll never get that
I hated this lullaby when I was a child. I always started to cry because I felt sad for the wolf. So whenever my mom started to sing this one I always screamed "NOT that one.". I was a strange child.

@@onehandcowboy Yes that one is amazing!!!!
Astrid Lindgren wrote the song but the music is written by Björn Isfält who did all the music in movie, like the theme song in the intro for example.
I know that film. I wondered why the song seemed familiar.
they sang it to me every night, and i still sing it to my five kids

I used to sing this to my children all the time. Still do sometimes, though they’re older now. One of the most beautiful lullabies there is!
Totally agree that this is one of the most beautiful lullabies there is. The loving and empathic understanding of the wolf is so touching.

I'm 21 years old and all my friends had this song to them during their childhood as a lullaby
If you 21 now your parents probably saw Ronja at the cinema as kids and read the book.
I work in school, lots of the kids know this one. We sing it sometimes during music lessons every now and then.
I remember Ronja Røverdatter was very popular when I was a kid. A lot of good childhood storie memories. Thank you Sweden. 😍
jesus, my mother used to sing this to me everny night from 5-10 years age. what a throwback

The loving and empathic understanding of the wolf is so touching.
I was completely caught in the song and the video when I checked it out. Thx for your reaction .
I sing this song to my daughter Evert night since she was about 3 months of age. She will become a valkyria!
I sang this to my kids a few years ago when they were little. Jonna has changed the melody a bit and made it a bit more spooky but it's very good
Just beautiful! The song, the video, just everything. It really takes you somewhere.

A song from the treasury of Astrid Lindgren!🇸🇪 Jonna just made it even better! Great reaction, btw!
I sang this song to my kids when they where 2-3 years old! That song and Tiny Dancer by Elton John ...yea, completely different ... 😁
I sing this to my daughter, who is about to turn 3, but more like the original version (like Lovis, Ronjas mother) 🐺 ☪
Sometimes you need a solid lullaby.
I sing this every night to my son 🙂
My mom sang this to me almost every night when I was little ❤

There are multiple versions of this Astrid Lindgren song. This is Jonnas. The Japanese redid Ronja as an anime, and the song along with it.

This is as Swedish as I can get, everyone knows or have heard this song and I think that goes for the rest of the Nordic countries as well.

Hunger tears in his wolfish belly

You wolf you wolf, don't come here

The wolf howls in the night forest
howling with hunger and complaining
But I want a pig's tail
that fits wolves' bellies
You wolf you wolf, don't come here

Sleep my child in mother's bed
Let the wolf howl in the night
but I'm going to have a chicken skank
if no one else has taken it
You wolf you wolf didn't come here
you'll never get the kid
