    Born and raised in Japan, Kurosawa's training on the 13 strings Koto began at age three. She studied with her parents Kazuo and Chikako Kurosawa both accomplished Koto players. At age fifteen, Kurosawa began her studies on the 20 strings Koto under Nanae Yoshimura.

      @@missplainjane3905 what kind of question is this? This has no relation to the topic or the performance. And your comments are kind of shallow in nature, not just by the fact that you could have typed them into your Google search engine, but also in the manner which you phrase your questions. What are you implying when you ask those questions about highly advanced society etc? That Asians are lowly in nature and barbaric compared to you westerners?

    Since her arrival to New York City in 2002, Kurosawa has worked within the traditional Japanese and contemporary classical music genre but also collaborates with a range of artists including a multitude of musicians, dancers and visual designers. The innovative approach in her original compositions is without boundaries, seamlessly blending her traditional training with elements of modern Jazz and electronica.

    Kurosawa is a recipient of multiple awards including first prize at the Japanese National Koto Competition in 1989 and 1992 and a scholarship from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan in 1998. That same year, she performed with the Prague Cello Ensemble at Suntory Hall in Tokyo and was featured in the NHK produced GENJI MONOGATARI WAKANA as principal soloist, playing Koto amongst an all western string ensemble.

    Kurosawa made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2006 at Weill Recital Hall. In 2011 she was principal soloist in Daren Haven's KOTO CONCERTO GENJI which premiered in New York City, US with the Lark String Quartet and in Stratford-upon-Avon, England with the Orchestra of the Swan. The piece continues to be performed by string quartets Voxare, Arianna and Lark String Quartet. In 2013, Kurosawa was principal soloist for the premier of THE MEMORY STONE music by Marty Regan at the Houston Grand Opera. She is currently composing music for Mathew Ozawa's FALLEN and will act as co-composer and featured performer. The piece is scheduled to premier in Chicago, 2014. Also she is principal soloist in Koto Concerto GENJI with Hawaii Symphony Orchestra on May 17th and 18th, 2014.

    The words "East Meets West" isn't the title of the song.
    The person who uploaded this realized that it was a mix of western and eastern instruments, thus East Meets West.
    It's not ridiculous at all but rather gives a quick explanation of the style of the song

    • @IgnatzKolisch
      @IgnatzKolisch 8 лет назад +2

      +Ivan Ong
      If you really want to be accurate, you should also be aware that this piece isn't a song. "Song" is one of the most misused words in the English language.

    a Guzheng is usually shorter than a Koto. Most of musicians know what is the different between the Koto and Guzheng. Personally, I prefer the Koto. It could produce better dynamic sounds...
