If you look carefully a few seconds before, you see someone's hand come up above his bell. I believe the cello player removes the mute for him. You see the mute laying near the cello after that.
This is the first time I have listened to this piece with tuba as a soloist. It sounds wonderful, my appreciation goes to Hans Nickel for fantastic performance. ❤❤❤

Und ich denke, ich kann Wenn es jemand nicht gemerkt hat, spielt er mit einer sprache. Das heißt, ein gewöhnliches staccato
@@WDRKlassik I thought this velocity could only be played on a tuba with valves (like Oystein Baadsvik) and not on pistons. My informations where wrong ! 😁
Verstehe von dem Instrument zu wenig, glaube also, dass es virtuos ist. Für mich macht die Tuba aber aus dem vor Freude und Energie explodierenden Tanz zum großen Teil eine Elegie bis Trauermarsch.

His breathing technique is amazing, with just one loud and fast note he blows the mute a few meters away.
