The thicker strings are louder because of just that, there thicker, more mass. it's most noticeable between the high e and the low E because (greatest size difference). to remedy this, have the pickup much closer on the high e side, and lower the pickup away from the low E until you find a good volume or output balance.
Thanks Gary, when I was looking at one of these I had found a lot of people commenting on the volume loss when the neck pup was wired. The one I tried out played fabulously with one of the best necks I've ever played. But I couldn't keep it in tune and didn't want to drop 2K without knowing what the issue might be. I passed on it but still think about it.
Very interesting mod! May I know which three position switch you used? And why didn’t they use the five-position switch from the guitar itself? You left it like that, although they could have used it?
I am poised to connect the neck pickup. I am trying to figure out how to get the neck to be on 250K and keep the bridge as is without adding a selector switch. I am thinking a resistor in the path might do it. I wanted to use the Fender 500k/250k volume pot, which would allow to blend the two as well, but you have to use the concentric knobs. That will alter the look drastically. I must say, the pickup selector might just be the way to go. Your looks pretty stealth.
I’m still thinking what the best way to raise the neck pup would be… I want the neck pup on my Frankie but I don’t wanna alter the look or change the sound of the bridge pup.. three way seems a good idea but still gotta raise the single and I’m cautious of what that does to the sound of the bridge pup
Just bought a used Frankie and went to wire up the neck pickup only to find that it's dead. Debating if I should roll the dice on buying a replacement pickup from EVH.
@@sidwilliams5766 I was actually able to fix it myself quite easily. There was a big crack in the solder on the face of it right where the wires attach. Busted out the iron and patched it up. Didn't even have to remove it from the guitar.
They told us at the EVH NAMM booth that you could hook it up and it works.

Plot Twist: they just spliced 3 wires from the hot so every position is always JUST the humbucker

Just get a push pull pot for the pickup selector.

Ahhh, I was wondering about this, mine is DOA as well.

It's out of phase in the middle position by the sounds of things.
Could be, but I like it. It's a bit like the Little Guitars sound right before the 1st verse kicks in.
random but do you play in a band called zeppelin usa?
