If you feel like the world seems increasingly colorless, you are not just imagining it. Indeed, the world is running out of color. Take cars for example. Car color distribution is at an all-time low. The most popular car colors as of 2020 were greyscaled colors, with over 70% of cars produced globally being white, black, grey or silver. Black and white are almost 50% of the car color market share. Red, blue and brown cars are between 6% and 10% each, while all other millions of colors amounted to less than 5%.[vid/info] If you want more evidence, this is the parking lot of the 1970s and 1980s and this is the parking lots now. The car color distribution has significantly changed from vibrant to monochrome.
Interesting stuff I found for myself:

Wow, the world is turning utterly depressing and miserable.
it crazy how fast this happened the 2000s were so bright and colorful pink red and blue everywhere yellow for houses and businesses phones came in every color imaginable
In the future every one resumes one color
I think more people would buy cars with wacky colors if companies just offered them at the same price, but that's when greed and profits come in. I had to pay extra to get my red Mazda and people thought I was crazy because why would you pay more for your car? If they just sold the red car at no additional cost, everyone would get it.
no i disagree. because he used the word popularity. that means people are preferring black. white colours. thers nothing you can do about it
@@shreyvaghela3963 but how did he measure popularity? Mostly through sales. You can't buy something that's too expensive or isn't sold.
I'm not saying everyone would buy a colorful car but more people would if they didn't have to pay extra for it.
One point I think he missed is the "premiumization" of brands and products. Colors like black, white and silver as usually associated with luxury. Most brands have tried to increase their brand value (and the price of their products) by trying to appear more upscale.
McDonalds no longer has cartoons on the walls. Volkswagen is no longer an affordable brand, etc.
Maybe he touches on this on the other video.
hate capitalism
I have been living in recreated vintage interiors since '97. I do not understand how these 'neutral' or monocrome colors can be healthy, mentally or perhaps even otherwise. I need colors. Couldn't live without 'm. And it's obvious people are starting to react to this colorless world.
There "healthy" because there very calming and relaxing. Vibrant colors are too overstimulating
@@rgonzalo511 This is exactly what i mean... people can no longer handle stimulation..... it's now become " overstimulating"... What about bright colors in nature ? Or even autumn colors ? I can tell you living in brighter colors -not neon or fluoriscent) sure made me feel better than before.
I agree with this! I like to have fun when I decorate and this means including fun colors and patterns. I also like to use colored lights :)
@@alainvosselman9960 that’s why prison interiors are grey, light brown or beige. Think about it.
@@melodyebuskin5490 Well they should try and paint colorful flowers on the walls... it will turn serial killers into Mickey Mouse !! lol
The waning popularity of red cars specifically could be related to the belief that police are more likely to pull over red cars for speeding.
According to Tash Bradley, a trained color psychologist, this gray-washing has an effect on emotional wellbeing. She said that gray doesn’t have any psychological benefits, and if anything, “it’s a negative.” While reds stimulate excitement and blues evoke calmness, gray is “soulless, drain[ing].”
What an awesome topic. I have obviously noticed this change but never connected the dots enough to see the underlying trend.
Let's be honest. Colors mean less to allistic people so when they all put their heads together and say "I like Grey scale" that's what we're gonna get cause us neurodivergents are vastly out numbered.
Le sigh.
You are absolutely right. Plus I think people are become more scared and pussy by the day so they don´t have the guts to go for bold colours anymore
@blokschaaf8941 not necessarily sure where scared comes into play, unless you are referring to people be afraid they car will standout to much and be easier to steal then I can see that.
I know for myself, I'd be far more interested in something like keylime or lemon colored as opposed to the muted colors that are more common.
When I was working in a parking garage I kinda would go all "😲😲😲😲" whenever I'd see a fun color 😅
I mean scared in the sense that the greyer the rest of the world is, the more difficult it becomes to be the one to have guts and go for bolder "colours". This accounts for everything: your clothes, car, interior, even your personality. If certain behaviour(and I count your choice of clothes, car, etc. under this) becomes the norm, deviating from that (having a more vibrant "colour") becomes increasingly difficult and scary to do, so must people will choose the safer option@@user-nd7rd8jo6h
Desensitization.
What’s interesting is I noticed this color thing myself as my husband and I wear tie dye/paisley tops, colorful shoes etc. One day in a restaurant it hit me that everyone sitting down was wearing grey, black, white and brown. My husband and I were the only two people that were wearing color. Also, we get people coming up to us saying how much they like what we are wearing which is cool. I guess we stick out!
Our Honda is red. My VW bug was cobalt blue. (Everyone knew when I was at work bc my car was the only one in the parking lot that was that color.)
I saw a similar short ‘Reel’ video to yours on FB so I decided to look here.
Great video. I can still remember how my country looked like during communism - so grey. Colours were expensive and there wasn't such need to stand out. There was like "the butter". There was only one type in the whole country. When someone said, I bought butter, you could be certain what butter it was - it was the one and only. Everyone was absolutely thrilled when capitalism arrived, there were colours (and ads) everywhere. I came back around and find the monochrome soothing again 🙂
P.S.: I really hope that you were not done rendering this video at the time my Patreon payment came :-) I would have well undestrood the timeline and survived - but still, very nice of you indeed!
Thank you very much Miroslav! :)
When I bought my new car this year I intentionally picked red…. I’m sick of the monochrome color scheme it’s so depressing!
Gray isn't a safe color if you're going to pass my semi truck on the right. You blend with the cement. The drab is killing me. People are so depressed and brain dead that they're surrounding themselves with dreary cloud colors.
I think social media plays a major role here. In old times people bought things in the colors they like, but now we are also concerned about getting the likes from others. Since monochrome is liked by all, we choose it over colors.
That makes a lot of sense! Instead of choosing what we like, we choose what others will not dislike or judge
We should celebrate Colour festival called HOLI from India. Ists awsome 👍
8 years ago, I sat at a bus stop and would count all the white cars that would pass by, then another day the same with black, and silver/grey. Could not come up with a conclusion why such uniform colors. It seems no one wants to be unique, or different. I drive a nice color of red. I feel exceptional to be in this color.
gaming hardware be like wtf bro😄
I feel like the fact that we have the sources of light that can change the look of the room by changing to any colour imaginable with a press of a button could be contributing to the trend in housing. The houses are mostly grey, white or dusty brown but not black because black doesn't reflect the colour. And also the fact that we switched from the old lightbulbs that paint everything in yellow so the colours had to be VERY pronounced might be involved
Yeah yellow lightbulbs make sense.
Modern LED lights usually have a lower color rendering index than the old incandescents. So colors actually look duller now, even if it isn't a yellow (warm white) light.
@@185Oeitherway, led strips are quite common nowadays, they light up my room perfectly
0:15 If you look at the last few years you can see more white cars being sold and less black cars. I have a feeling this has to do with the absorption of light, which makes black cars absorb more sunlight, thus getting warmer. Last couple of years the summers have been getting increasingly warmer so black cars left in the sun will get extremely warm. Because of this more people are starting to buy white cars so they don't get as warm if left in the summer under the sun. If I remember correctly this is very common in Mediterranean countries.
My house is literally black and white. White walls and black wood trims. Only thing I have super colorful is the bright red front doors. Traditional door colors. Chinese red arches and doors and Japanese red arches. Red is a traditional color for entrances in east asia.
the gays will fix this 🏳️🌈
Come to India. You’ll realise what Colour Is.
This sounds like a threat,lol
Been there in your country with my mother, guess 2018...

Houses in 1980:many colors
Houses in 2024:white
I had never really thought about this -but now you come to mention it...
And besides that dont forget that even our skyes are becoming more gray because of pollution. Straight up sad.
Thanks for the video. This always bothered me. First noticed the lack of color in cars which, from the manufacturing standpoint, makes sense. Then I noticed McDonalds “growing up” with the whole “cafe” experience. It is depressing but everything you stated seems to be the case. I guess if we want color we’re going to have to turn to nature.
I was born in 2001, I grew up playing outside and played with colorful toys like Legos and nerf guns. I remember the quality of my box television wasn't too great but the colors were bursting out to my eyes. The world nowadays is such "low quality" despite being able to stream 8K 120 fps on a flat-screen to me. Seems a bit more boring when you live in the city but living somewhere Midwest or to the west of America there's more country land with is booming with colors from my experience. So it boils down to your own perspective really
It's like living in dystophy world filled with souless corporations.
Trending colors in 1980:red,green,yellow,indigo,pink,cyan,orange,violet...
2024:electric poop,white,depressed blue,charcoal,ugly brown...
WTF HAPPENED
What color is electric poop😂😂😂
Long live India ❤️ full of colours and light 💜🧡💛
It’s because the colors are more expensive yall slow
Nah your slow. It doesn't cost more to buy a red shirt than a black one. It's because most people nowadays like dull and neutral colors. People nowadays don't like overly vibrant colors
PC gaming: i dont have such weakness
I dont blame them, I like black or white on most things but color can come back with no problem
We need to bring back the old Porsche colors! It’s so boring now!
Boys fashion then
Colorful shirt,blue jeans
Boys fashion now
Black football kit and thigh highs
Have you seen a boy wearing thigh high socks in 2023😂😂😂
Wow, thank you for sharing this video! I did time travel to the future and everything was mono chrome just as you described! For years I've been describing the things I saw (in the future) a silver or aluminum color.
Also before I was always under the impression that we lost our ability to see colors or no longer needed them
The colorful cars of yore were possible because wages were higher and cars were cheaper at the time. People probably didn't care much about resale, they wanted what they wanted and they had the means to get it
I didn't even know Samsung, HP, or Pringles changed their colours 💀

What
i can tell you that in the viking age, colour was all the rage. switch to the 13th century, colour is still all the rage. 14th century is the same, the more colours, the better.
our recent switch to monocrome, i would blame on advertising. advertisements are cheerful and colourful. however, advertisements has a negative connotation. as such, we prefer colours that do not remind us of advertisement.
Idols Yokoyama Yuu and Kusumi Koharu(until 2007) respectively were black and silver in their groups
Fun fact:the most common colors in board games are black, red and white!
Playing cards are simply just black and red symbols on white background!
The reason why men's thigh highs are black is because thigh highs were more colorful back then and only for girls
A male model in Arsuxeo thigh highs
In June,Skittles have changed their color palette for pride parades to all-white flavors:White strawberry,White orange,White apple and White blueberry
Lets be honest... minimalistic houses are really nice... i'm not making my house a 1970s disco party ffs 😂😂 and the colorful cars only work on sports cars. Like, If I see a Volkswagen SUV colored purple that would look so strange...ngl
Eh, your comment about the car market makes sense, but that is NOT why companies move to monochromatic logos.
Yea I noticed that. Idk how big RUclipsrs have an impact on most peoples lives but it seems to be a very big trend to want to look very composed and clean as opposed to reckless like how we imagine other people. It reflects in plain but clean and perfect home interiors and also cars, and also mens clothing
I keep hearing "saving costs"for 20 years in big companies (cars) they overcharged fees in useless features...im not grayscale people im glad to have an orange sporty car😎👍
I need colour. My house is full of vibrant colours inspired by nature (green, yellow, orange, red, gold, blue) with a bit of black and white here and there to balance it all out. I tried the whole neutral colour thing, but it depressed the hell outta me after a while. I kind of understand why people like everything being in neutral or monochrome colours, but it's not for me. Just my opinion, though.
Why iz everyone so surprised? The world is going towards the end. Whe have to get our mourning collors out.
I am so tired of this with cars, I guess it's happening with interiors too. Ugh!
That’s why prison interiors are grey, light brown or beige. Think about it.
As a kid I thought about this to be a good idea
damn when I look back on those color fashioned pictures they were so ugly, muted colors are so much better
Bro, it's because the majority of people have less money and more insecurity. If there's a chance you'll need to pull up stakes and move, the last thing you want to be worried about is the oddball shade of green you painted your kitchen
Just look at how Window XP and Window 11 look.
Jelly Babies if they had more accurate colors in 2019:
Cherry(deep mauve???)
Lemon(deep aero blue???)
Orange(deep taupe???)
Grape and Banana remain the same
Fun fact:one of the Boys Republic members has black image color!
The other 11 are more colorful:red,blue,green,violet,gold,navy,pink...
Mac and Windows

Colorful era needs some sort of reinessance, I would pay to have colorful car and interior
Windows logo is now blue
Blue is the new black😂😂😂
I love colors....
Saint Gobain changed their logo to a more colorful version in 2018
insane
simple.. too much dust nowadays to clean, dull sht makes dirty sht look less shitty
Bright colors for cars and paints are expensive the grey is cheaper
BMV..... You gotaa be kidde'n
heyhey that's not how you play the game
Modern is better
🔥
2:57 BMV?
Its actually pronounced "BWV", BMW is Bayerische Motoren Werke and Werke is a German word.
@@CuriousReason I know German. It's actually pronounced "Bay Emm Vay". But since your video is in English it should just be "Bee Emm Double-You". If you weren't changing out the letter W for V and were trying to say their W, "Vee" is like the German word "wie" which is "how" in English.
Sorry for being nitpicky. It was still a good video. Have a nice day
@@libberator5891 Thank you! :) I am pretty sure in German, W in BMW is pronounced is Vee, not Vay. ruclips.net/video/mG7GBGcABYQ/видео.html&ab_channel=SpeedComparer
I just used German pronunciation as I personally believe that the pronunciation of names should not cross-change between languages. :)
Why do you consider it as a big deal? Who the heck is looking from the moon whether the world is colorful or not and judging us for that?! And why should it be colorful WTH! That doesn’t make any sense. Just leave people alone!
Are you serious?
imagine everything black and white. literally everything like the 60s movies. everything will be black and white. will you be able to live in that situation?
@@rydernotop8861 who said everything will be black and white.. trees aren’t black and white, neither the sky, the sea, the rivers, the flowers, us.. but when it comes to houses, cars, and personal belongings dark colors are more chique” and more elegant
@@zin8324 ok the rivers trees and all these things have colour. But where are you gonna find these in cities? And even if you find it, there will be only one colour or 2 colours. That isn't gonna work. And yes. Adding at least a little bit of colour to cars houses
Make them look stylish. And colours also have dark shades.
@@rydernotop8861 the video wasn’t about cutting trees, neither was discussing the matter of nature.. at all.. it was talking about choosing colors for our daily products.. However, you can find trees everywhere in the cities, yes you cannot find a valley there neither a mountain, but there are a lot of trees everywhere.. yet the video was discussing whether you should chose a red watch or a black or white one, a red car or a black or white one and so on..
Fen TV is basically the opposite
In 2003 their logo on the top right was gray(red only in idents),but the text background below is red
I thought that 70's interiors were so colorful because they'd make it easier to hide all the children's blood stains.
Hahahaha.... hold up
You need Jesus. Not "the blood of Jesus", but rather the whip of Jesus. And the backhand of Jesus, the dropkick of Jesus, etc.
But shadows cars are boing is like we going and we can see shadow cars what about rainbow and pink purple, mixing colors , aesthetic
