- Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo. We call it a fancy version of tie-dye! Arashi is the Japanese term for “storm. It’s also known as the pole-wrapping technique. This style of shibori isn't seen as often because it requires cutting a pole or PVC pipe but it's just as easy as any other shibori technique and the results are beautiful - often resembling water waves.
