Metal player here. I use the tone knob. Mostly for cleans and atmospheres and certain times leads. I always use it with my neck pickup.
I would never use a guitar without a tone knob tbh.

I can validate I did say this guitar is art..
because it is! It has to be touched and felt to appreciate the ergonomic subtlety of its shape and form. The sound is a matter of taste, the finish complements the obvious amount of thought and process that has gone into this guitars design. I'm a singer not a player but holding this beauty reminded me of a Noh Theatre dancer I once saw in Tokyo... And that is art invoking imagination, which is the soul of creation...is it not? More than a great guitar I think! I would hang this on my wall, next to the Banksy... Lol

I rarely use a tone knob for the bridge position but all the other positions, especially neck only, I use it all the time. Mainly for clean/bluesy/spacey tones. Seems like a major waste to me not having a tone knob to get the most versatility out of your pickups. Never know what sound you'll be going for in future songs you write. Might as well have options.

The door broke off on my 9v compartment in the first couple months of owning my Ninja. I contacted Legator to order a replacement, they said they were out of stock and they never responded after that. I recently found what battery compartment they use and ordered it. Perfect match replacement. They use the Kaish brand 9v compartments sold on Amazon for $9. No wonder the plastic door hinge broke. They use the cheapest option available.

  • @dreammachine86

Think I caught a bit of an Arch Enemy riff in there? I only got into guitar a couple years ago (drums for about 17 years though!) but I believe AE subconciously influenced me into liking all these exotic sounding scales, Doomsday Machine was full of that kinda stuff.
I got my first Legator recently, was really impressed. One of their less common models...the OT7T which is their Opus T shape, kinda like a Tele/offset hybrid. Different specs to what you usually get on a Legator too...passive pickups and a Gotoh trem. The trem and the ultra-thin neck (seems that is consistent across their models which is cool) was what I was after as not many production 7s seem to have a vintage style trem. I'd heard the previous negative stuff about Legator's QC but like I say...not many other choices for the spec I wanted other than the out of reach full customs, and I'm glad I ended up with a Legator. I guess they've got their QC up to a similar level to the other import brands like LTD, Schecter etc.
I actually received another one last week, from Dan @ Live Louder who is great as I'm sure you know. Same Opus T shape, this one is a multiscale 7 string with Fluence Moderns. The body shape & colour combo (pastel purple) give me a kinda streamline moderne vibe...looks even more that way with the vibrant blue colour option. I belive I got the last of both models in the UK...a real shame they discontinued the Opus series...they even had an HSS & Gotoh trem Strat variant, I managed to track down the 6 string version from France (the OS6).
They all have that sleek playing feel you mentioned, even if the Opus T shape doesn't have the upper fret access of the neck through super Strat shape of the Ninja, it still feels amazing to play. Most comfortable neck I've ever felt on a 7 string. Only criticism I'd have is that the fingerboard edges have some tooling marks. But the edges feel very smooth & comfy (unlike an Indonseian Schecter I tried recently that felt sharp...odd as my Schecter Reaper-6 is the most comfy guitar I have)...so that's a perectly acceptable trade - really is only a minor aesthetic thing.
The buckeye burl top looks fanatastic on yours. They go for some crazy colours and even resin fills on some of their buckeye tops which do look cool but the way they've done it here looks even classier, you can see the grain so nicely. I do like having a tone pot though...I don't use it much but you can then have 2 push/pulls - with the Fluences that's one for voice change, one for coil split. Some guitars are wired up for both as stock but Legator don't seem to do that (their new crackle finish models have Fluence Classics with a 5-way blade for coil split though). My OT7F has a tone pot so just gonna replace that with a push/pull type and wire up the coil split on the Moderns.
A shame Legator aren't using vintage style trems anymore like the Gotoh 510 (I saw a limited edition NAMM buikd Ninja that was all pale moon ebony and had a Hipshot trem but the production version has a Hipshot hardtail). But they do have an interesting looking model coming soon...multiscale with a trem. Buckeye burl top with purple or blue burst. Might have to pick that up when it's released!

I never thought I'd spend ths much on a Legator but couldn't stop looking at it in my local shop so I decided to play it. Now I have spent this much money on a Legator... I'll be honest... everytime I've seen one this past years i knew Legator wasn't liked by the guitar world and in my ignorance, as someone who likes to make my own opinions normally, I just ran with the notion to skip them over not remembering why the dislike. I'm glad they made this fabulous thing I couldn't look past. All I knew from the past was that the "Legator" stamped pickups on their cheap models sounded thin and.... cheap, but that's not a fair reason to dislike a brand, so do cheap Jackson, Ibanez, and the rest of the entry lot. While I have Modern Fluence in other guitars, my N6X has the weathered looking Will Adler Fluence pickups with more low end and look killer in the Cal burl top and have become my favorite pickups from the Fishman brand tonally. Great review, new subscriber!

  • @akunz24

Tone nobs only make sense on telecasters and esquiers. Their bridge pickup can be pretty harsh. Depending on the application you might want to tone that down. I think nowadays tone pots are pretty much just a leftover from those guitars. It´s like the tele had a tone knob back in the day and all the guitars that came after had to have one aswell.

@@GuitarCinemaOfficial yeah man also having just one single bridge pickup will also make your guitar have more sustain as well less circuitry so yeah brighter tone. The idea behind one pickup is that there’s less magnetic pull from the neck on the strings which slightly reduce sustain. I think of course things can be made up by fine tuning the amp, but if you’re like me and like to slam the front of the amp I think it’s much more satisfying to start with the guitar.

@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Thanks for taking the time to reply. Interestingly, Solar seems plagued with QC issue the way Legator used to be apparently. The Solar pick-ups are indeed the weaker point (got a S1.6 Baritone), a bit lifeless and flat but I'm not really tone obsessive. They do the job and it's not my main guitar so it's ok to keep them for now. If I used it as my main guitar I'd certainly consider swapping them though. Yeah I do like the specific specs of the Legator you highlighted in the video, I'm on the fence between getting the one of 'verb or another yummy Ormsby.
